The A-League is back into the swing of things, with fixtures coming thick and fast following the COVID 19 enforced mid-season break. Both Melbourne sides are due to get back to action this week as the race for the title, top 6 and avoiding the wooden spoon heats up.
Here are our picks for the next round of fixtures in the A-League season:
2019/20 A-League Restart Week 3
Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar
Melbourne Victory ($3.75)
Brisbane Roar ($2.3)
Melbourne Victory will be looking to claw away from relegation trouble as they take on Brisbane Roar. Victory have endured a really poor season and find themselves languishing in 10th in the table as a result. They have a 5-point cushion to Central Coast below them but looked poor in defeat to Western United last time out. For Brisbane Roar meanwhile this game presents a real opportunity to climb the table. They find themselves 4th and despite having lost manager Robbie Fowler during lockdown, they are still very much involved in the play-off reckoning. This could be a really good game and whilst Victory are a tough nut to crack, Brisbane Roar will fancy their chances.

Brisbane Roar to win 2-1
Adelaide United vs Perth Glory
Adelaide United ($3.2)
Perth Glory ($2.25)
6th host 5th in the A-League table as Adelaide United play Perth Glory. With 4 points acquired since the restart, Adelaide look to be in excellent form and look glad of the break, having slipped out of the play-off places and down to 7th in the table prior to lockdown. Carl Veart will be in caretaker charge of United following Gertjan Verbeek’s resignation back in April and it looks to be a new start for the club. For Perth Glory meanwhile, this game presents a real opportunity to put some distance between themselves and the chasing pack in the play-off race. Glory sit 5th, with one win and one defeat from their first two games back in action. They are the reigning league champions and they could well be saving their energy for the play-off this term with games running out. This should be a really good game between two organised sides and a draw looks to be the most likely result.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Wellington Phoenix
Western Sydney Wanderers ($2.75)
Wellington Phoenix ($2.55)
Wellington Phoenix will be looking to cling on to 2nd place in the A-League table as they travel to Western Sydney Wanderers. WSW will have been disappointed to only pick up a point on the road at Central Coast last time out, but they are still just about in play-off contention. They sit 9th in the table, only 4 points off the play-off places and they will be looking to formulate a late push with just a handful of game weeks to play. Wellington Phoenix meanwhile have been the real surprise package in the A-League this season and it feels as if the COVID 19 pandemic came at the worst possible time for them. Phoenix currently sit 2nd in the table, having won one, drawn one and lost one of their first 3 matches since returning. This should be a really good game between two combative sides and a draw looks the most favourable bet.

Melbourne City vs Sydney FC
Melbourne City ($4.5)
Sydney FC ($1.95)
Two of the big guns face off in the A-League as Melbourne City play Sydney FC. City have enjoyed a decent season; they sit 3rd in the table and despite tailing off in recent weeks (prior to lockdown) they have shown consistency all campaign. They look assured of a play-off place and will be looking to rotate their squad to the max with some big games on the horizon. For Sydney FC meanwhile this is a real chance to put a marker down. The defending champions are 11 points clear at the top of the table and look to be the team to beat in the A-League once more this season. They too have plenty of big games to play and haven’t looked at their most fluent since returning but they are a very good side and they should have too much about them for Melbourne City here.
Betting tip: Sydney FC to win the match ($1.95) Bet Now
Sydney FC to win 2-1
Newcastle Jets vs Western United
Newcastle Jets ($2.25)
Western United ($3.25)
Two sides looking to force their way into the play-off places face off as Newcastle Jets play Western United. The enforced break perhaps came at the right time for Newcastle Jets who looked in supreme form in winning at Sydney FC in their first game back. The Jets have climbed to 8th, having only managed a draw with Central Coast Mariners last time out but they are now only 3 points away from the play-off places and they will be hoping to finish the season in style. Western United meanwhile have shown real glimpses of quality this season but their naivety in the A-League has proven to be their downfall. In their first season in the division, they currently sit 7th and very much in the play-off race but they could live to rue a few missed chances earlier in the campaign. They did however win impressively against Melbourne Victory last time out and with just a13-point gap to overturn to the sides above them, this could be a really important fixture for Western United as a play-off finish would be an excellent return. These sides are very evenly matched, and a draw looks the most likely result.
