The fixture build up in the A-League continues to take its toll as Australia battles against the COVID 19 pandemic sweeping the nation. Sydney FC look to be home and dry in their race to pick up yet another A-League leaders shield whilst Central Coast Mariners have fought hard this season but look destined for the wooden spoon. The play-off race is shaping up nicely however and with just a handful of fixtures still to play, it promises to be yet another enthralling week of A-League action.
Here are our picks for the next round of fixtures in the A-League season:
2019/20 A-League Restart Week 5
Perth Glory vs Western United
Perth Glory ($2.5)
Western United ($2.8)
Two sides looking to curb their inconsistencies in the battle for a play-off place face off as Perth Glory take on Western United. Glory sit 5th in the table but the manner of their 4-0 defeat to Melbourne Victory last time out will be hugely concerning. They are the reigning league champions and they could well be saving their energy for the play-off this term with games running out but need to start building some sort of momentum. Meanwhile, Western United sit 7th in the table and have shown real glimpses of quality this season but their naivety in the A-League has proven to be their downfall. In their first season in the division, they are very much in the play-off race, but they could live to rue a few missed chances earlier in the campaign. A good win over WSW last time out should build confidence in the camp as they look to mount a late play-off push. This should be a really good game between two good sides and a draw looks to be the most likely result.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne Victory
Western Sydney Wanderers ($1.9)
Melbourne Victory ($3.4)
9th plays 10th as Western Sydney Wanderers take on Melbourne Victory, with both sides seemingly out of play-off contention. WSW sit 9th in the table, 6 points off the play-off places and back to back defeats to Western United and Perth Glory look to be rather costly. They have shown glimpses all season but have failed to sustain any decent period of form. Melbourne Victory meanwhile have endured a really poor season and find themselves languishing in 10th in the table as a result. They have a 7-point cushion to Central Coast below them but have lacked any sort of consistency throughout the campaign and will be looking to start next season as soon as possible. They did however pull off an incredible win at Perth Glory last time out and could well build on that here with a point at WSW.

Newcastle Jets vs Wellington Phoenix
Newcastle Jets ($3.2)
Wellington Phoenix ($2.25)
Newcastle Jets will be hoping to put a late play-off push together as they host Wellington Phoenix. The Jets are currently 8th, 5 points outside of the play-off places and the games look to be running out. Their poor start to the season looks to have ultimately cost them in their play-off bid but they have been in decent form since the season restart and are unbeaten. Wellington Phoenix meanwhile will be looking to cling on to 3rd place in the A-League table with the play offs looming. They have been the real surprise package in the A-League this season and it feels as if the COVID 19 pandemic came at the worst possible time for them. Attention may be beginning to turn towards the play-offs for Phoenix and with Newcastle in good form, the hosts could spring a surprise here.
Betting tip: Newcastle Jets to win the match ($3.2) Bet Now
Newcastle Jets to win 2-1
Sydney FC vs Western United
Sydney FC ($1.75)
Western United ($4.5)
Table topping Sydney FC will be looking to carry momentum into the play-offs as they host Western United. The sky-blues are well clear at the top of the table and will see this game as a real chance to put a marker down. The defending champions are 9 points clear at the top of the table and they will be using every game as practice for the definitive play-off season ahead. Meanwhile, Western United sit 7th in the table and have shown real glimpses of quality this season. Their 5-3 win over WSW last time out was an indicator of the talent within their squad but defensively they still look to be carrying a few problems. With games in hand they are very much in the play-off picture, but Sydney are an excellent side and shouldn’t slip up at home here.
Betting tip: Sydney FC to win the match ($1.75) Bet Now
Sydney FC to win 3-1
Western United vs Melbourne City
Western United ($3)
Melbourne City ($2.15)
Melbourne City will be looking to cling on to 2nd place in the table as they take on Western United. Consistency has been the key for City this season, who currently reside in 2nd place following a strong campaign. With a play-off place assured, they will be looking for the highest possible league finish to assist them in their quest to win a maiden major trophy. Western United are 7th in the table and they will see this as a chance to get into the play-off mix themselves. With as many as 3 games in hand on the teams above them, this presents a real opportunity for Western United, who only have a 3-point deficit to overturn. This game is sure to mean more to Western United than Melbourne City and for that reason Western United look overpriced at home to kick on and win the match.
Betting tip: Western United to win the match ($3) Bet Now
Western United to win 2-1
