Defending champions Melbourne City were made to work hard by Brisbane Roar for three points, whilst there were opening day wins for Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne Victory. Elsewhere, the Sydney Derby ended as a draw in a very eventful opening weekend of A-League action.

A-League Round 2 Tips

Western United vs Perth Glory – AAMI Park

Western United ($2.22)

Perth Glory ($3.5)

Draw ($3.65)

Two sides looking for their first wins of the season face off as Western United host Perth Glory. Hosts United are now embarking on their third season of A-League football and they look to be acclimatising well to life in the top-flight but their defeat to Melbourne Victory last time out is a reminder of just how competitive this league is. Perth Glory meanwhile couldn’t turn the euphoria around Daniel Sturridge’s arrival into three points in their opening game against Adelaide United, but they will be bang up for this one here. There is very little to split these two sides, making the draw the most plausible result.

Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.65)Bet @ Sportsbet

1-1 Draw

Wellington Phoenix vs Central Coast Mariners – WIN Stadium

Wellington Phoenix ($2.3)

Central Coast Mariners ($3.4)

Draw ($3.5)

Wellington Phoenix will be looking to pick up their first win of the season as they host Central Coast Mariners. The Kiwis have had a couple of seasons heavily disrupted by COVID 19, but they will be looking to start this season strongly and their draw at Macarthur FC last week was a positive start to the campaign. Central Coast Mariners meanwhile were the surprise package in the division last season and have started this season well too, beating Newcastle Jets 2-1 on the opening day. This should be a decent game, with the draw looking to be the most likely outcome.

Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.5)Bet @ Sportsbet

1-1 Draw

Adelaide United vs Melbourne City – Hindmarsh Stadium

Adelaide United ($3.75)

Melbourne City ($2.1)

Draw ($3.75)

Defending A-League champions Melbourne City will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season as they travel to Adelaide United. Hosts Adelaide enjoyed another solid season last term and are always a side in the play-off hunt come the end of the season. They picked up a decent point at Perth Glory last weekend and will be keen to build on that here. Melbourne City meanwhile weren’t at their fluent best against Brisbane Roar last weekend but ultimately got the job done and they look to be a force to be reckoned with again this term – which should see them through this test.

Betting tip: Melbourne City to win the match ($2.1)Bet @ Sportsbet

Melbourne City to win 2-1

Sydney FC vs Macarthur FC – Jubilee Stadium

Sydney FC ($2)

Macarthur FC ($4)

Draw ($3.75)

Sydney FC will be looking to find form quickly this season as they take on Macarthur FC in their first home game of the campaign. The blues saw their A-League title taken off them by Melbourne City last season and they started this season slowly too, drawing with old foes Western Sydney Wanderers on match day 1. Macarthur FC meanwhile are a well fancied outfit this term, with plenty of international experience in their ranks. They draw with Wellington Phoenix last weekend and will need to improve upon that showing here if they are to pick up anything from New South Wales. This should be a good game, with Sydney FC most likely to come out on top.

Betting tip: Sydney FC to win the match ($2)Bet @ Sportsbet

Sydney FC to win 2-1

Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar – AAMI Park

Melbourne Victory ($2.4)

Brisbane Roar ($3)

Draw ($3.65)

Melbourne Victory will be looking to build on their strong start to the season under Tony Popovic as they host Brisbane Roar. Victory had the ignominy of picking up the wooden spoon in the A-League last season, but they have improved markedly this term, beating Western United on match day one before knocking out Perth Glory in the FFA Cup. Brisbane Roar meanwhile are a side in flux, capable of producing some incredible results and some poor showings in equal measure. They were edged out by Melbourne City in the opening game, and they will be looking to respond here, making the draw a likely outcome.

Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.65)Bet @ Sportsbet

1-1 Draw

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Newcastle Jets – CommBank Stadium

WSW ($2.1)

Newcastle Jets ($3.6)

Draw ($3.6)

Two sides looking to avoid a relegation scrap this season face off as Western Sydney Wanderers take on the Newcastle Jets. WSW are a side seemingly going places under Carl Robinson and their opening weekend draw with Sydney FC was testament to that – something they will have to sustain throughout the campaign. Newcastle Jets meanwhile are a side looking for consistency and their opening day home loss to Central Coast Mariners will be a concerning start for those connected with the club. They will need to improve but WSW are a decent side, and they should pick up a valuable win here.

Betting tip: WSW to win the match ($2.1)Bet @ Sportsbet

WSW to win 2-0
