As ever, there is plenty of football to be played and the second weekend of the season promises to be yet another enticing one.

A-League Round 2 Predictions
—
Brisbane Roar vs Sydney FC – Suncorp Stadium
Brisbane Roar ($3.20)
Sydney FC ($2.25)
Draw ($3.70)
Two sides still awaiting their first wins of the 2023/24 AFL season face off, as Brisbane Roar host Sydney FC. A decent opening day point against Macarthur will be something to build upon for Brisbane Roar, who should be looking at a push for a top 6 place again this term. Meanwhile, Sydney FC were disappointing in defeat against Melbourne Victory last weekend, and they will feel that they need to start putting points on the board quickly, if they are to avoid a repeat of last season. This one will be tight, but Sydney FC should manage to get the job done.
Betting tip: Sydney FC to win the match ($2.25)
Sydney FC to win 2-1
Wellington Phoenix vs Perth Glory – Wellington Regional Stadium
Wellington Phoenix ($1.95)
Perth Glory ($4)
Draw ($3.70)
Two sides that opened up with draws face off as Perth Glory cross the pond to take on Wellington Phoenix. Rebuilds will be the stock phrase for both sides this term, with Wellington Phoenix looking to crack the playoffs this season, following a decent showing last year. Perth Glory meanwhile weren’t anywhere near the top 6 last term, but they have a young squad, that should have learnt a great deal from their experiences last season. This should be a good game in New Zealand, with Wellington Phoenix most likely to prevail.
Betting tip: Wellington Phoenix to win the match ($1.95)
Wellington Phoenix to win 2-1
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Western United – CommBank Stadium
Western Sydney Wanderers ($1.91)
Western United ($4)
Draw ($3.90)
Western Sydney Wanderers take on Western United, in what should be an excellent game in New South Wales. WSW are a side with plenty expected of them this season and with some experienced heads in their squad, they could well be operating at the sharp end of the table come next May. Western United meanwhile picked up a superb opening day win over Melbourne City last weekend and look to have a renewed sense of belief about them this term. This will be a good one, with home advantage potentially telling for Western Sydney Wanderers.
Betting tip: Western Sydney Wanderers to win the match ($1.91)
WSW to win 2-1
Central Coast Mariners vs Macarthur FC – Central Coast Stadium
Central Coast Mariners ($1.67)
Macarthur FC ($4.75)
Draw ($4.40)
Defending champions Central Coast Mariners will be looking to bounce back from a chastening defeat to Adelaide United, as they take on Macarthur FC. Central Coast have the look of a side that should be challenging again this term, and they will be hoping last weekend’s loss at Adelaide was merely a blip. Macarthur FC meanwhile will be aiming to crack the top 6 this season and they certainly have the personnel to sustain a challenge. Central Coast need a win and they should get one here.
Betting tip: Central Coast Mariners to win the match ($1.67)
Central Coast Mariners to win 2-0
Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets – AAMI Park
Melbourne Victory ($1.83)
Newcastle Jets ($4.20)
Draw ($4.35)
Fresh off the back of an opening day win, Melbourne Victory will be looking to develop some consistency, as they take on the Newcastle Jets. Victory’s win at Sydney FC was a real standout result last weekend and how they would love to replicate that this weekend. Newcastle Jets meanwhile endured a tough season last year but have looked to rebuild during the off-season and their opening day draw with Perth Glory will surely give them some confidence. Melbourne Victory look to have some momentum though and they should come out on top here.
Betting tip: Melbourne Victory to win the match ($1.83)
Melbourne Victory to win 3-1
Adelaide United vs Melbourne City – Hindmarsh Stadium
Adelaide United ($3.10)
Melbourne City ($2.20)
Draw ($3.80)
Two of the most fancied sides in the A-League this season face off, as Adelaide United host Melbourne City. United thumped defending champions Central Coast last weekend and they are a side that will be confident of sustaining a serious challenge this term. Melbourne City meanwhile were humbled by Western United last weekend and need to bounce back quickly here. This will be the highlight fixture of the weekend and with so much at stake, a draw could well be on the cards.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.80)
1-1 Draw
