A-League Round 2 Predictions
—
Macarthur FC vs Newcastle Jets
Macarthur FC ($1.88)
Newcastle Jets ($3.75)
Draw ($4.20)
High-flying Macarthur FC will be looking to build on their opening day mauling of Perth Glory, as they welcome the Newcastle Jets to town.
Macarthur lacked consistency last term, with flashes of brilliance punctuated by some poor form and they will be looking to rectify that this term.
Newcastle meanwhile pushed Melbourne City all the way last weekend, just coming up short and they should take heart from that showing.
However, Macarthur are ready for action this term and with momentum behind them, they should manage to pick up another three points here.
Betting tip: Macarthur FC to win the match ($1.88)
Macarthur FC to win 2-1
Adelaide United vs Central Coast Mariners
Adelaide United ($2.20)
Central Coast Mariners ($3.00)
Draw ($3.75)
Defending champions Central Coast take on Adelaide United in this one, with the hosts having enjoyed an extra weekend off to begin the season.
Whether or not Adelaide are ready for this one remains to be seen but United are always in the mix for at least a playoff spot and there is plenty of momentum gathering behind them this term.
Central Coast were good value for their point with Melbourne Victory last weekend and they have a target on their backs as defending champions this term.
This could be a tight one, with the draw looking like the most likely outcome in Adelaide.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.75)
1-1 Draw
Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory
Melbourne City ($2.70)
Melbourne Victory ($2.55)
Draw ($3.70)
A Melbourne derby always gets people going and the prospect of these two sides facing off is a hugely appealing one, especially so early on in the campaign.
City dug deep to overcome Newcastle on the opening day, managing to negotiate the last 30 minutes with 10 men and they will be hoping to draw upon that resolve here.
Victory couldn’t find a way past champions Central Coast but there were plenty of signs that this could be a big season for them moving forwards.
This will be tight once again and another draw could be chalked up on the card this weekend.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.70)
1-1 Draw
Perth Glory vs Wellington Phoenix
Perth Glory ($2.90)
Wellington Phoenix ($2.30)
Draw ($3.80)
Following an opening day humbling at Macarthur, Perth Glory need to respond quickly here, as they take on Wellington Phoenix in front of their home fans.
Glory have an inexperienced squad, with plenty of players making their way at this level but it promises to be a big season ahead for all concerned if performances don’t improve.
Wellington Phoenix meanwhile enjoyed a super campaign last year and they will be doing all they can to build on that and keep the pressure on the teams above them.
Perth Glory will want to show resolve here, but Wellington Phoenix should have too much for them in key areas.
Betting tip: Wellington Phoenix to win the match ($2.30)
Wellington Phoenix to win 2-1
Auckland FC vs Sydney FC
Auckland FC ($3.00)
Sydney FC ($2.20)
Draw ($3.80)
Following a triumphant debut performance against Brisbane Roar, the stakes increase for Auckland FC here, as Sydney FC are the next side on the agenda.
Auckland are a side brimming with confidence, and they will be desperate to put on a show for their growing fan base and Sydney FC should be a real test for them.
The blues managed to pick up a good win on the road at Western Sydney Wanderers last time out, a result that should be huge for confidence and Sydney FC will start as the favourites for this one.
Auckland FC are a good side and should go well here but Sydney FC know the ropes in the A-League, and they should be able to get the job done here.
Betting tip: Sydney FC to win the match ($2.20)
Sydney FC to win 2-1
Western United vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Western United ($2.88)
Western Sydney Wanderers ($2.30)
Draw ($3.80)
Western United and Western Sydney Wanderers clash here, in what should be a very good game, between two sides that look to get down and play.
A draw on the road at Wellington Phoenix was a positive start for Western United last time out and they should take heart from that in front of their home fans here.
Western Sydney Wanderers will still be reeling following their home defeat to local rivals Sydney FC and they will want to put in a performance and a response here.
Western United are a tough nut to crack but Western Sydney Wanderers should be able to pick up three points on their travels here.
Betting tip: Western Sydney Wanderers to win the match ($2.30)
WSW to win 2-1
