A-League Round 24 Expert Tips & Predictions

Tension reigns across the A-League table currently, with all of the top five sides in the division failing to win last weekend.

League leaders Newcastle Jets continue to hold an advantage over the likes of Auckland FC and Adelaide United in behind them, but the stakes are rising.

Melbourne City and Macarthur FC were the big winners last weekend, clawing their way back into the playoff race, along with Wellington Phoenix.

Only a handful of points separate most of the sides in the league currently and this should be another huge weekend of A-League action.

Here are our A-League tips for the next round of 2025/26 fixtures:

Two teams out of the playoff picture as things stand meet here, as Central Coast Mariners host Brisbane Roar. Mariners have huffed and puffed all year, without making any inroads and their defeat to Perth Glory last weekend was poor. Roar tell a similar story and find themselves down in tenth place in the A-League table as a result. This could be a contest low on quality and a draw looks to be the percentage bet.

Two sides firmly in the mix to go deep this season face off here, as Auckland FC host Melbourne Victory. Auckland are looking to time their run to perfection in pursuit of their maiden A-League title, and they will be bang up for this one at home. Melbourne Victory meanwhile will still be reeling from their loss to Wellington Phoenix, and they will need to bounce back quickly. This is two of the best teams in the league doing battle, but Auckland FC are generally too strong for most at home.

Another huge battle in the upper echelons of the A-League table pits the Newcastle Jets against Adelaide United. It has been a campaign to remember for the Jets, who still have their destiny very much in their own hands, but they will need to bounce back from a loss to Macarthur FC last time out. For Adelaide United, this is a monumental task, but a win could see them in the conversation for the league leaders shield. Newcastle have been the standard setters this season though and they should win this one.

A much anticipated Sydney derby lies in wait here, as Western Sydney Wanderers welcome Sydney FC across town. WSW have been in abject form all season and currently occupy 12^th place in the A-League table, with the wooden spoon seemingly in their sights. Sydney FC have a much better outlook and sit in the playoff spots, but their lack of consistency and form will be key concern. Neither side is in great nick and with local rivalry at stake, a draw feels like the value play.

All of a sudden, things are beginning to look a little rosier for Melbourne City, who will be desperate to cling onto their playoff status, as they take on Wellington Phoenix. Phoenix are in a similar boat, having languished all season but they are too in the playoff mix, especially if they can win here. However, City are going well, and they should win this one at home.

Perth Glory will be looking to keep building on their decent recent form, as they take on Macarthur FC. Glory are a side with developing potential and a late push for the playoffs could be achievable with some consistent results. Macarthur FC look to be in a better spot to crack the top six but they too are beginning to falter at the key time, and this feels like a massive game for them. With Perth Glory improving, Macarthur FC may need to settle for a draw on the road here.
