The 2023/24 A-League season has enjoyed a blockbuster start, with Adelaide United’s 6-0 thumping of Melbourne City last weekend potentially the most seismic result in the recent history of the competition.
Elsewhere, last season’s champions Central Coast Mariners are also sat in the doldrums, without a point from their opening two games, as are Melbourne City and Sydney FC.
Adelaide United are flying high at the top of the pile, with Melbourne Victory hot on their tails and this season looks to be as open as any in recent years.
Here are our A-League tips for the next round of fixtures in the 2023/24 season:

A-League Round 3 Predictions
—
Melbourne City vs Sydney FC – AAMI Park
Melbourne City ($2.10)
Sydney FC ($3.40)
Draw ($3.90)
Two giants of the A-League do battle in the opening game of the round, with both teams occupying the bottom two spots in the table and without a point this term. City were thumped by Adelaide United last weekend in a real chastening encounter, and they will need to show heart and resolve in this one. Sydney FC meanwhile are in a similar boat, also without a win from their opening two games and this is as tough as it gets in the A League. This should be a very interesting one, with Melbourne City most likely to come out on top.
Betting tip: Melbourne City to win the match ($2.10)
Melbourne City to win 2-1
Wellington Phoenix vs Brisbane Roar – Wellington Regional Stadium
Wellington Phoenix ($2.50)
Brisbane Roar ($2.80)
Draw ($3.70)
A clash between two unbeaten sides is on the agenda in New Zealand, as Brisbane Roar travel over to take on the Wellington Phoenix. A win over Perth Glory last weekend will do plenty to build confidence in the Phoenix camp, who will be looking for a top 6 finish this term. Brisbane Roar meanwhile had too much about them for Sydney FC last weekend and they will be full of confidence heading into this one. This should be a good game, with a draw the most likely outcome.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.70)
1-1 Draw
Macarthur FC vs Western United – Campbelltown Sports Stadium
Macarthur FC ($2.45)
Western United ($2.75)
Draw ($3.80)
Two sides that will be looking to penetrate the playoff picture this season face off, as Macarthur FC host Western United. Both Macarthur have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season and with renewed confidence and personnel in their squad, they look ready to mount a decent challenge this season. Western United meanwhile picked up an excellent win over Melbourne City in their opening game, something they will want to build upon here. This will be tight, but home advantage could be telling for Macarthur.
Betting tip: Macarthur FC to win the match ($2.45)
Macarthur FC to win 2-1
Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United – AAMI Park
Melbourne Victory ($2.15)
Adelaide United ($3.40)
Draw ($3.85)
Two sides that are sitting pretty at the top of the pile know that something has to give, as Melbourne Victory take on Adelaide United. Victory have looked a side reborn so far this season, playing with a renewed sense of freedom and they will be looking to secure a top 6 finish as quickly as possible. Adelaide United meanwhile look to be finally fulfilling their potential at this level and two big early wins suggest that they are ready to challenge for the title this term. This should be a very good one but Adelaide United are full of confidence and look to be a little overpriced here.
Betting tip: Adelaide United to win the match ($3.40)
Adelaide United to win 2-1
Perth Glory vs Central Coast Mariners – nib Stadium
Perth Glory ($3)
Central Coast Mariners ($2.30)
Draw ($3.90)
Two sides chasing their first win of the season do battle in Perth, as Glory welcome defending champions Central Coast Mariners to town. Glory will be eager to put in a better showing than last year this term and early season signs have been decent enough, with a top 6 place the ultimate aim. Central Coast meanwhile were hugely impressive last season, timing their run to the title to perfection and their slow start this season won’t have people panicking yet. This will be a tight one at the nib Stadium, but Central Coast need a win and they should open their account for the season in this one.
Betting tip: Central Coast Mariners to win the match ($2.23)
Central Coast Mariners to win 2-1
Newcastle Jets vs Western Sydney Wanderers – McDonald Jones Stadium
Newcastle Jets ($3)
Western Sydney Wanderers ($2.38)
Draw ($3.70)
Unbeaten Western Sydney Wanderers put their record on the line, as they travel to winless Newcastle Jets. For the Jets, improving on last season’s poor showing will be the ultimate aim but early signs this season are that not much has changed at the McDonald Jones Stadium. For WSW meanwhile, continuing to win games such as these is the key, as they look to secure their top 6 place as quickly as possible and push on from there. This will be a decent game in Newcastle, with the Western Sydney Wanderers potentially too strong for the hosts.
Betting tip: Western Sydney Wanderers to win the match ($2.38)
WSW to win 2-1
