Week 2 of the 2017 AFL Finals is here and it’s do or die for the four teams involved.
In the first week of finals we had three one-sided matches and one match went into overtime with a dramatic after the siren goal to snatch victory. What a game!
GWS will be forced to make a few changes this week with the season ending injury to Jeremy Cameron, so keep an eye on Thursday’s team selections to see who’s named in the side.
Please note: these are our early picks prior to team announcements. We’ll pick our tips based on what teams we expect to be named but please check back on Thursday night to see if there are any major selection shocks which could change our picks.

19:50 Geelong ($3.20) v Sydney ($1.36) @ MCG
Geelong were blown away by Richmond at the MCG last Friday night and they are back again this Friday night to take on the Swans following their demolition of the Bombers.
Geelong will need to get a lot more out of captain Joel Selwood who was clearly struggling against the Tigers. Guthrie and Kolodjashnij will both miss this week after they both suffered calf injuries. Daniel Menzel should get back into the side and they could benefit from his spark up forward – because they had nothing last week.
The Swans continued their brilliant run with a dominant victory over the Bombers last week. The game was all over in the second quarter after the Swans booted 10 goals to 2.
Buddy suffered a corked thigh early in the game but it didn’t slow him down and he finished the game with 4 goals.
The Swans are the form side of the league right now but Geelong can match it with them if they bring their A-game. Whether we see that is the big question.
For tipping and betting purposes, we can’t go past the Swans. Geelong look like good value at the current odds of $3, but we think the Swans will get it done and move one step closer to redemption.

19:25 Greater Western Sydney ($1.40) v West Coast ($3.00) @ Spotless Stadium
GWS were simply not on the same level as Adelaide last Thursday night. They weren’t competitive and it looked like they just weren’t that interested. They lack that fighting quality that’s needed to be competitive in finals footy.
We know they are a good side, but it’s hard to see them turning it around fast enough for us to see a significant improvement this week.
Leave Stevie J out of a finals game? Not a smart decision. He should be back in the side this week and will thrive under the pressure. He could be the game changer for them.
What an incredible win by West Coast over the Power last week! An overtime final decided by a kick after the siren – following a controversial free kick (it was definitely a free kick).
West Coast will take a lot of belief out of that performance but they can’t afford to take the Giants lightly after their weak performance last week. West Coast need to be at their best but they can win this one and their experienced stars will do all they can to make it happen.
Based on last week’s performance, we simply can’t pick GWS again. We’ll go with West Coast to cause the upset and move on to a preliminary final.
