7:50pm Melbourne Demons vs Carlton Blues @ MCG
We must give Melbourne credit for playing well in defeat last week. It looked overwhelmed in the first half against the Collingwood Magpies, but the Demons made a game of it late.
It was still a 60-53 loss, but they should take plenty of benefit from that performance, and they have been a better team than Carlton for most of the year.
The Blues got past the Sydney Swans 74-68 in a tight tussle. It was nail-biting stuff, so a very similar game to Melbourne.
Momentum always must be considered, so that’s why there is solid betting support for Carlton at $2.23. However, given the level of opposition they played in the opening week of the finals, we must take Melbourne to win.
We like the way it bounced back to make it a close game last week and getting $1.66 for Melbourne at the MCG is a better price than punters thought they would get.
The points spread line is –7.5, but given the generous head-to-head odds, there’s no reason to take it.

The Port Adelaide Power enjoyed the week off last week, and that could have a big impact when facing the GWS Giants.
It was hard not to be impressed by the Giants when beating St Kilda last week. However, the Saints didn’t exactly give them much of a test. The Saints lack of scoring prowess really showed, so the Giants took control early and never looked back.
It will be a much harder task against the Power in Adelaide. Beating Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval is one of the hardest fixtures, and with a fully rested team, we think the home side will be too hard to beat.
Bookmakers have the Power at $1.60 with head-to-head markets and –9.5. There is good value with their points spread line, as we think the Power wins by double digits.
They’re the fresher team, and if they can limit the Giants getting out in open play off turnovers, they should have too much in the tank.
