AFL Round 20 Tips

Friday 28/7/23
7:50pm Collingwood Magpies vs Carlton Blues @ MCG
The Collingwood machine continues to power, and we don’t expect much difference against Carlton Friday.
Collingwood escaped with an 85-83 win against Port Adelaide, and bookmakers aren’t giving them much respect for that performance.
Carlton was good last week as well, but the Magpies are the better team, and they should cover the spread.
Betting tip: Collingwood –14.5 @ $1.90

Collingwood vs Carlton – betr Same Game Multi
We’ve teamed up with betr to provide the GoBet Multi for the first game of every round of the 2023 AFL season.
We think punters get a value line with Collingwood –14.5. We expect it to come out humming and put the Blues to the sword early. Include the line and the under total match points in your same game multi. Carlton could struggle to score as freely as it did last week, and it could become a tense defensive battle late. To boost payouts, include Jamie Elliott to score two or more goals. He averages 1.8 per game, and he scored three last week.

Saturday 29/7/23
1:45pm Geelong Cats vs Fremantle Dockers @ GMBHA Stadium
The Cats are expected to roll through the Dockers, and it’s not hard to see why.
Fremantle lost 105-76 to the Sydney Swans last week, and they have been one of the biggest disappointments of the season.
Geelong didn’t fire against Brisbane, but the level of opposition is much easier here.
Betting tip: Geelong –42.5 @ $1.90

1:45pm Western Bulldogs vs GWS Giants @ Mars Stadium
The Giants looked very good against Gold Coast last week, which could give the Bulldogs something to worry about.
The Bulldogs have been playing well, but the Giants are riding a lengthy winning streak, and we’re happy to take the underdog odds.
Lock in the $2.35 for the Giants.
Betting tip: GWS @ $2.35
GWS by 10
4:35pm Gold Coast Suns vs Brisbane Lions @ Heritage Bank Stadium
We were bitterly disappointed with the Suns against the Giants last week, so we can’t put our hard-earned money on them against Brisbane.
The Lions are a much better team, as shown with its 64-53 win over Geelong last week, so they should be far too good.
Punters get a –22.5 line, which is generous.
Betting tip: Brisbane –22.5 @ $1.90

7:25pm Essendon Bombers vs Sydney Swans @ Marvel Stadium
We expect a close contest between Essendon and Sydney, and although Essendon disappointed last week, it could bounce back.
The Bombers were no match for the Bulldogs when losing 90-49, but they usually bounce back from a loss in fine style.
Bookmakers have Essendon as slight favourites, so it’s being supported in early betting markets.
Betting tip: Essendon @ $1.81
Essendon by 10
7:40pm Adelaide Crows vs Port Adelaide Power @ Adelaide Oval
We love the all-Adelaide battle, but it should be Port coming out ahead with the victory on Saturday night.
The Power have been the much better team in 2023, and although they lost last week, losing narrowly to Collingwood isn’t a bad form guide.
The line is –18.5, and they should cover the spread with a strong first-half performance.
Betting tip: Port Adelaide –18.5 @ $1.90
Port Adelaide by 25
Sunday 30/7/23
1:10pm Hawthorn Hawks vs St Kilda Saints @ Marvel Stadium
We’re not sure how Hawthorn didn’t hold on to beat Richmond last week, but such is life for a struggling team.
There should be a flow on effect for the Hawks, and we expect them to struggle against the Saints, who scored a narrow win over the hapless Kangaroos.
They’re both looking for some form but take St Kilda at a generous $1.83 line.
Betting tip: St Kilda @ $1.81
St Kilda by 10
3:20pm Richmond Tigers vs Melbourne Demons @ MCG
Melbourne is favoured to win, and we’re not surprised, given its recent form, and Richmond’s struggles to beat Hawthorn.
The Demons scored a gutsy 97-93 win over the Crows last week, and although it wasn’t their finest performance, it matches up well against Richmond.
Bookmakers have –15.5 as the line, and if Melbourne is anywhere near its best, it should storm home.
Betting tip: Melbourne –15.5 @ $1.90
Melbourne by 30
4:40pm West Coast Eagles vs North Melbourne Kangaroos @ Optus Stadium
It’s the biggest game of the year and punters have been waiting patiently for it.
But, in all seriousness, there is good value to be snapped up with the Kangaroos, who are surprising outsiders at $1.90.
We don’t expect much money to be bet on this game but take North Melbourne to score a rare win against the terrible Eagles.
Betting tip: North Melbourne @ $1.94
