AFL Round 20 Tips

Friday 30/07/21

7:50pm Essendon Bombers vs Sydney Swans @ Marvel Stadium

Essendon had a prime chance to climb the ladder last week, but losing to the GWS Giants was a massive road block.

The Bombers must now recover to face the Sydney Swans, who are looking more like premiership contenders with every week.

They scored a 98-58 win over Fremantle last week and we’re expecting another win for the visitors on Friday.

1:45pm North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Geelong Cats @ Blundstone Arena

The confidence of North Melbourne is growing after a comprehensive 116-77 victory over Carlton last week. It was a long time coming for the struggling Kangaroos, who must now face a much harder task.

Beating the Geelong Cats isn’t easy, especially after they defeated the Richmond Tigers by 38 points last week. Geelong has the class edge in this matchup, and although we’d love to see North Melbourne make a game of it, that’s unlikely to happen.

Take the Cats to cover what should be a sizable spread.

4:35pm St Kilda Saints vs Carlton Blues @ Marvel Stadium

The Saints were downed by the West Coast Eagles last week, but it was a solid performance that bodes well against Carlton.

The Blues were thrashed by the North Melbourne Kangaroos and that’s not a loss any team wants on their record. Carlton hasn’t been in stellar form in 2021 and the Saints have an excellent chance to rebound.

Bookmakers should have the Saints as firm favourites and there is no reason why they wouldn’t cover the spread.

1:10pm GWS Giants vs Port Adelaide Power @ TBC

The Giants haven’t had much to get excited about this season but they got the job done against Essendon last week.

It was a much-needed victory for the Giants and they now set their sights on Port Adelaide, which has a stellar record against non-top four teams.

We expect Port Adelaide to be too powerful for the Giants. It scored a 97-69 win against Collingwood last week and a similar score line could be on the cards.

2:10pm Collingwood Magpies vs West Coast Eagles @ MCG

It was a much-needed win for the West Coast Eagles against St Kilda last week and they should give them confidence for this round.

Facing the Collingwood Magpies, who come off a loss to Port Adelaide, should be ideal and it gives them a chance to score consecutive victories.

Not much had been going right for the Eagles, so it was a big performance and we expect it to continue on Sunday afternoon.

5:10pm Fremantle Dockers vs Richmond Tigers @ Optus Stadium

Fremantle and Richmond are struggling to show their best, so it will be an interesting conclusion to Round 20.

Fremantle comes off two poor performances against Geelong and Sydney, so it will need to pull something out of the hat against Richmond.

The Tigers are also struggling, but they should enjoy the easier opposition on Sunday.

Dates to be Confirmed

Three games have yet to be confirmed by the AFL. Dates and times haven’t been set, but the Suns vs Demons, Hawks vs Lions and Bulldogs vs Crow will play this weekend.

Gold Coast Suns vs Melbourne Demons

Melbourne is in a bit of strife after losing to the Western Bulldogs last week. It needs to regain the form shown earlier this season, but the Demons will be happy to play the Suns.

Gold Coast was thrashed 120-71 against Brisbane last week and we don’t see its form improving any time soon.

It should be a comfortable victory for the Demons and we would be surprised if it was a close game. Melbourne has too much pace for the Suns to cope.

Betting tip: Melbourne Demons to winBet @ Sportsbet

Demons by 38

Hawthorn Hawks vs Brisbane Lions

The Brisbane Lions were back to their best form when beating the Gold Coast Suns last week. More of the same is expected against Hawthorn, which suffered a loss to Adelaide.

Losing to the Crows isn’t a good form guide and the Lions, who are eyeing a top four playoff position, should have little trouble beating Hawthorn.

Bookmakers should have a sizable line set and we have no fear of the Lions covering a big number.

Betting tip: Brisbane Lions to winBet @ Sportsbet

Western Bulldogs vs Adelaide Crows

Despite coming off a rare win, Adelaide will likely suffer a defeat against a Bulldogs team showing their best ability.

The Western Bulldogs have been on a tear and that was a stylish 85-65 win over Melbourne, which ranks highly.

Adelaide will get plenty of points with bookmakers, but it’s unlikely to be enough. We should see a huge score line in favour of the Bulldogs.
