We have Essendon vs. Melbourne predictions for AFL Round 5 on Saturday, April 11 at 1:15pm at Adelaide Oval.
Melbourne has made a better start than expected at 3-1, but the Bombers could make a game of it on Saturday.
Best Bet
It’s not easy to bet on Essendon, but in the Bombers we trust. We cashed with Essendon last week when they lost 99-65 to the Western Bulldogs, which included a spirited second-half comeback.
Just when it looked like they were out of their feet, they picked up the pieces and gave loyal supporters something to cheer. Based on that effort, we’re happy to back them with the +26.5 against a team like Melbourne.
The Demons have done well to post a 3-1 record after scoring an upset win over Gold Coast, but we’re wondering how long it can last. It might not be for long, and playing at a neutral venue gives them no advantage.
Essendon won 96-57 last year, and although winning outright could be a stretch, our AFL predictions expect a close contest.
Same Game Multi
If Essendon is going to compete, they need to put points on the board. Nate Caddy and Peter Wright could show up in a big way, so we’re backing them to kick 2+ goals.
They had only one goal each against the Bulldogs last week, but we expect Melbourne’s defence to allow a fair few more goals. Caddy had four goals against the Kangaroos, with Wright kicking two, so we’re taking the odds for both players.
It should be a high-scoring game, and Essendon could play with nothing to lose. That should result in a high score, and we expect money to come for over 188.5 points.
Best Value Bet
Looking to build on the momentum from their second-half performance last week is Essendon, and our AFL picks this week have them leading at halftime.
It’s all about attitude for the Bombers, and although they don’t have a lineup that would scare most teams, Melbourne isn’t a top-flight team.
Punters get $3 for a halftime lead, and they could come out of the blocks quickly and force Melbourne to make some changes.
