It’s almost impossible to know what Essendon will do on a weekly basis, but after last week’s upset win over GWS, we’re happy to jump back on board.

The Bombers gave their fans something to cheer with a rare win, which gives hope for the rest of the season. We don’t expect them to beat Hawthorn on Saturday but keeping it close isn’t beyond this team.

Hawthorn cruised to victory against Richmond last week, but it’s not easy to score two easy victories in a row. They should expect a more physical encounter against Essendon, and if the Bombers start well, their confidence levels will grow.

Bookmakers have a +53.5 line for a team coming off a win, which is generous. Essendon only needs to play with effort to cover the line, so we’re taking the risk and include them in our AFL predictions this week.

The win was never in jeopardy, and he had teammates Mitch Lewis and Nick Watson scoring five goals. We expect Gunston to be back to his best with 3+ goals, so take the short odds and include him in AFL SGM picks.

Nate Caddy didn’t kick a goal for Essendon last week, but they still won. That’s a great effort, and Caddy is another player who should bounce back to his best form. He pays $1.80 to kick 2+ goals, which is an excellent value bet.

Bookmakers expect a low-scoring game, but our final score has Hawthorn winning 105-70, so we’re including over 169.5 in picks.
