Melbourne vs. Richmond Predictions – AFL Round 18 2026

We have Melbourne vs. Richmond predictions for AFL Round 18 on Sunday, July 12 at 3:15pm at the MCG.

Punters should expect a one-sided game, as Melbourne and Richmond are heading in different directions on the AFL ladder. Bookmakers have Melbourne at –41.5, which is one of the biggest lines of the week.

Best Bet

Melbourne –41.5 @ $1.90

It was hard not to be impressed by Melbourne last week when putting a stranglehold on Hawthorn. It was a dominant display, and although the final score was 125-90, it was more dominant than the score suggests.

Boasting three wins from their last four games, Melbourne is starting to put everything together. They scored wins over Collingwood and Essendon before losing to Adelaide, but they couldn’t have bounced back in better fashion.

They’re playing much better than Richmond, who continued their losing streak against Carlton last week. It was a close contest, but Richmond keeps finding ways to lose, and they are 0-11 in their last 11 games at the MCG.

Melbourne won 126-72 in their most recent meeting in April, and punters should expect a similar score, which is why we’re backing Melbourne –41.5.

Same Game Multi

Melbourne –41.5, Jacob van Rooyen 3+ Goals, Harrison Petty 2+ Goals, Total Points Over 173.5 @ $9.00

Jacob van Rooyen is paying a healthy $2.65 to kick 3+ goals, which is much better than we expected. He has eight goals from his last two games, including three goals against Hawthorn and five against Adelaide. We priced him at $2, so take the value odds.

Harrison Petty is having a good run after kicking two goals in each of his last three games. He should get amongst the action in a high-scoring game, so include 2+ goals at $1.99, which gives a good boost to our AFL SGM odds.

Melbourne should score a big total, somewhere in the 120 range. That should be enough to secure over 173.5 total points.

Best Value Bet

Jacob van Rooyen First Goal Scorer @ $9.50

$9.50 for van Rooyen to kick the first goal is a value price from bookmakers, and he should make an early impact on this game.

He’s a key goal scoring option for Melbourne, and given the way Richmond starts games, Melbourne should get the first crack at goal.

He is worth including in AFL picks this week at the current odds.
