North Melbourne vs. Sydney Predictions – AFL Round 9 2026

We have North Melbourne vs. Sydney predictions for AFL Round 9 on Saturday, May 9 at 1:15pm at Marvel Stadium.

Super Saturday kicks off with an intriguing contest between the Roos and Swans, where Sydney is the $1.25 favourite.

Best Bet

North Melbourne +27.5 @ $1.90

North Melbourne might be coming off losses to GWS and Geelong, but if they tighten up their defence, they should push Sydney close.

They scored 98 points against GWS when losing by seven, and it’s those types of performances that should give them encouragement. Their record might not be flash, but being competitive against top-tier teams does their confidence some good.

They now face the best team in the competition, but Sydney is due a poor performance. Everything is coming too easily for them, so if North Melbourne applies the pressure in the first half, Sydney could falter in the second half.

Getting a +27.5-point start is significant, and we believe the Kangaroos have another big game in them. We expect money to come for the underdogs, so take the current AFL betting line.

Same Game Multi

North Melbourne +27.5, Paul Curtis 2+ Goals, Brodie Grundy 20+ Disposals, Total Points Under 192.5 @ $8.00

Paul Curtis had only one goal last week, which equaled teammate Nick Larkey. It wasn’t his best performance, but we have him bouncing back with 2+ goals. Punters get $1.74 to include in AFL SGM picks.

Brodie Grundy could be kept busy throughout the game and we have him posting 20+ disposals for Sydney. He had 26 disposals last week against Melbourne, and he has notched 20+ disposals in four of his last five games.

They combined for 137 points in their latest meeting, and their last game at Marvel went for 172 points. Based on the stats, we’re comfortable including under 192.5, which is higher than expected.

Best Value Bet

North Melbourne First to 50 Points @ $3.25

A good start is imperative for North Melbourne to have a chance of covering the spread, and we have them being the first team to 50 points.

They have started well for much of the year, and although Sydney is a tough team, their defence isn’t always the best. They allowed Melbourne to score 114 points last week, so the Kangaroos could seize the opportunity.

The $3.25 odds qualify the Kangaroos as a value bet in the race to 50 points.
