A Brief History of Surge
Surge.com.au was launched by Amused Australia Pty Ltd in early 2023. That company is part of the Amused Group, which contains at least ten online betting brands we know of. It also includes Black Stream, a technology and marketing firm.
This site is the second-oldest in the Amused portfolio, following the launch of BetNation in 2021.

Absolutely. The site is licensed by the Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission. Like all regulated bookmakers, it takes social responsibility seriously, offering player protection tools, and promoting BetStop, the national self-exclusion program.
Surge is just one of several brands operated by Amused Australia Pty Ltd. The company registration (ABN 13 654 831 839) all seems to be in order.
Amused Australia does have one notable mark against its name. It was fined by the ACMA in February 2023, for sending SMS with no option to unsubscribe. However, they’ve had no other regulatory issues since, suggesting lessons have been learned.
Surge Online Betting Platform Review
This is a noticeably modern betting site, with a fresh, minimalist appearance and innovative features. You can watch live racing streams, and it’s one of very few Australian betting sites to offer cashout. We also enjoyed the “Mega Multi” option – build same game multis with up to 40 legs.
Esports betting is something Surge is yet to implement. We read a review from 2024 saying the app offered such markets, but we’ve never seen any. There certainly weren’t any when we compiled this Surge review.
Solid Coverage of Major Sports
Surge takes bets on 20+ sports, including a comprehensive thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing product. That’s a little more than most, and certainly better than BetBunker, which had fewer than ten sports last time we checked.
In terms of market depth, Surge does a reasonable job. On the day of an NRL game, you can expect to see around 60 betting opportunities. That’s the same as BetBlitz and the other Punterstech sites, for instance.
It’s nowhere near as many as industry giants like bet365, of course. And it’s still a fair bit less than the 275 offered by Neds. But let’s be honest – have you ever bet on the Broncos scoring a try between minutes 30 and 40? Many of these markets are wallpaper – Surge just worries about the essentials.
Excellent AFL and NRL odds
The odds are much better than average for most sports. Footy fans will love the AFL win lines, which are right up there among the best in the country. Surge usually bets to 105% – we’re yet to see an Aussie bookmaker with a lower margin, outside of an odds boost promo.
Its NRL pricing is only marginally less aggressive, with win lines set at 105.5%. That’s comparable to TAB, and only a fraction worse than Sportsbet. But it’s slightly better than sites like Ladbrokes and WellBet (106%) and heaps better than Star Sports, at nearly 108%.
Most cricket, tennis and major soccer games are also competitively priced. They’re rarely the best odds in the country, but they’re usually bigger than average.
Payment Methods at Surge
Okay, let’s talk dollarydoos. You can deposit in a few different ways, as shown in the table below. It’s not the biggest choice of payment methods, but the essentials are all ticked off.

Payouts are only made by EFT bank transfer, but requests are processed several times a day, including weekends. Depending on when you submit your withdrawal, there’s a chance you’ll have the money within an hour or two. It’s unlikely you’ll ever wait longer than 48 hours.
The minimum deposit and withdrawal requirements are perfectly reasonable, and Surge doesn’t charge any sneaky transaction fees. You’ll need to fund your account with at least $10 – unless it’s a bank transfer, in which case it’s $20.
Is There a Surge Mobile App?
Yes, Surge has a very good sports betting app. Don’t just take our word for it – look at the App Store and Google Play ratings. When we wrote this Surge review, it scored 4.5* in both marketplaces, from almost 2,500 users.
There’s not much more we can add, other than to say we’ve never encountered any glitches. Everything runs smoothly, and the user interface is just as straightforward as the desktop site.
Speaking of which, the website is fully responsive. So, if you don’t want to bother with the app, just visit using any up-to-date smartphone or tablet browser.
Surge Promo Codes
We know lots of you will find this page looking for Surge bonus codes, but sadly, there aren’t any. This is no fault of the bookmaker’s, though. It’s due to regulations passed in 2019 that make it virtually impossible to offer such signup incentives.
Surge does provide existing account holders with certain bonuses, though they’re often based on your betting activity. There are some generic offers now and then, but you’ll have to log in to see what’s available.
Customer Support at Surge
In the event of an issue, you’re limited to two support channels – email and live chat. Luckily, those are the two most important options, but it would still be nice to have the option of a telephone call.
Live chat is your best chance of a fast resolution, as the agents tend to respond quickly. They’re also around from 8am to 11pm, which is pretty good coverage compared to other bookies in Australia.

Surge Site Review – Final Verdict
It’s not perfect, by any means, but we quite like Surge. There are definitely bookies out there with broader market coverage, and the site’s appearance is fairly unspectacular. However, the odds are extremely competitive, the payouts are quick and the app is very good.
If forced to choose, we’d prefer Neds for racing, and bet365 for sports betting, as those two sites just go the extra mile. For most punters, though – especially beginners – there’s really not a lot in it.
