Can I Use a Credit Card to Bet in Australia?

No. Credit cards have been banned for gambling deposits since June 11, 2024 – which, in our opinion, was long overdue.

It is also illegal for a wagering operator to offer any other forms of credit or help you access credit from third parties, such as payday lenders. You also can’t use a digital wallet linked to a credit card – for example, you can’t use your PayPal account linked to a credit card.

At the same time, digital currency (cryptocurrency) was also banned as a deposit method.

These bans apply to all online betting sites, telephone betting services, and on-course bookmakers. Interestingly, this credit ban does not apply to lotteries – which really doesn’t make sense and needs to be reviewed.

However, most betting sites still have plenty of quick and easy deposit options available, such as debit cards, PayID, POLi, bank transfer, PayPal and BPAY.
