Monday 22/1/18

7:05am New England Patriots vs. Jacksonville Jaguars @ Gillette Stadium

It was business as usual for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots when beating the Tennessee Titans 35-14 last week.

Trailing 0-7 in the early stages of the season, the Patriots didn’t panic and soon after put on an offensive and defensive clinic.

Brady was masterful at the quarterback position and big Rob Gronkowski was his usual self at the tight end role. Punters should expect this lethal combination to be firing again on Monday as the Patriots prepare for the upstart Jaguars.

It hasn’t all been smooth sailing for the Jaguars (10-6) this season, but the 45-42 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers was all class and it was good to see the offence hit the high notes.

Blake Bortles has been a dynamic quarterback this season with 21 touchdowns and 13 intercepts, which is a good number for the relative newcomer to the league.

Helping him on offence is Leonard Fournette, who has run for over 1000 yards and has scored six touchdowns. He was involved in a minor car accident during the week, but by all accounts, he’s ready to go for the big divisional showdown.

The Jaguars will likely need to score around the same total again this week as the Patriots offence is firing on all cylinders, but this is a team which can go score-for-score with teams.

Going into Boston to play the Patriots is the big concern and the experience edge is clearly with the Patriots. Most of their players have won the Super Bowl over the last 10 years, including last year’s comeback win over the Falcons, and that experience is something the Jags’ don’t possess.

There were concerns this week with the status of Tom Brady’s hand injury, but he believes he’s ready to go and we’ll trust the MVP.

There is plenty to like about the Jaguars this year, but they might have run their race last week and the advantage should hold with the home side.

10:40am Philadelphia Eagles vs. Minnesota Vikings @ Lincoln Financial Field

Not many NFL critics were expecting the Eagles to come away with the win over the Atlanta Falcons last week, but we were confident in the abilities of Nick Foles.

Foles has come under scrutiny as the replacement for the injured Carson Wentz, but this is the same Nick Foles which had a winning record with the Eagles just a few seasons ago.

The 15-10 win over the Falcons was mostly built on tough defence and that’s the Eagles strong point coming into this, but they’re taking on one of the best defence outfits in the NFL.

The Vikings are coming off an amazing last play win over the New Orleans Saints (29-24), but there have been some doubts as to whether that win would instill confidence in the squad.

Having led the game early at 17-0, the Vikings let their foot off the gas pedal and let the Saints take the lead late in the game. There will be no room for error against the Eagles on their home soil on Monday and there is some trepidation in the market.

If this game was played in Minnesota we’d expect bookmakers to have the Vikings as the –7.5 favourites, but the line is only three and that could present value for punters.

We’re not going to write off the Eagles after one of their best seasons in recent history, but thisw Vikings team looks ready to contend for a Super Bowl.

Case Keenum has been excellent at quarterback with 22 touchdowns and only seven intercepts. His ability to not only manage the game but also throw the game-winning touchdown is a great assest and it might be too much for the Eagles’ defence.

If the Vikings win this game they get to play the Super Bowl at their home stadium and that’s some great motivation to perform on Monday.

Betting tip: Vikings -3 @ $1.91 (BET NOW)
