The Christmas Classic at Randwick is the feature race on the Sydney card and there’s some great value on offer throughout the day.
Racing is also being hosted by Sandown where even fields have been presented on the nine-race card.
Christmas might have been and gone, but there’s some good gifts in store for punters this Saturday.
Randwick free tips & form
Race 2. (13:05) Tab Handicap (1300m)
#2 – Sasso Corbaro @ $2.30 – BET NOW
Kris Lees lines up the talented three-year-old filly which has won two of her four starts and finished second in the other two.
The daughter of All Too Hard scored by over three lengths last time out at Hawkesbury and although this is a harder task, she never looked like being beaten and facing only four rivals will help her chances immensely.
Race 3. (13:40) Book Summer Hospitality 3YO+ (1600m)
#5 – Dreamforce @ $2.40 – BET NOW
Dreamforce might not have run well at Randwick last time out, but there was plenty to like about his previous outings.
The John Thompson-trained five-year-old was a winner at Rosehill by 2.5 lengths over the talented Our Belisa and that was an encouraging performance.
He wasn’t able to apply the same tactics with success behind Sedanzer last start, but this is an easier task and carrying only 51.5kg on his back is going to make it tough for his rivals to chase him down.
Race 5. (14:50) Theraces Handicap (1200m)
#6 – Brave Song @ $1.85 – BET NOW
We couldn’t have been more impressed with the win from Brave Song last start.
The highly-touted three-year-old settled back during the run at Canterbury before showed a big turn-of-foot in the straight.
The money was piled on and the same has happened again. Punters have identified the Snowden-trained runner as a horse to watch in the future and there’s no reason why he won’t easily handle this field again.
His odds could shorten despite the short price.
Race 6. (15:30) Highway Handicap (1100m)
#13 – Acquittal @ $3.40 – BET NOW
Danny Williams is a good trainer in these Highway Handicap races and this three-year-old looks like a nice type.
The gelding by Nicconi finished second on debut behind Mad Fox, which is paying $1.18 to win on Saturday and he then ran second behind Bee Neata at Goulburn which is a good form guide for this.
He’s right down in the weights at 53kg and he should prove tough to beat.
Race 7. (16:10) Christmas Classic (1200m)
#5 – Eckstein to place @ $2 – BET NOW
The form of Eckstein had tapered off for most of this year, but she’s a real talent and the signs were positive last start.
A four-year-old by I Am Invincible, Eckstein hadn’t run well since the autumn, but she finished second in the Group 1 Myer Classic at Flemington in November and that was a stellar performance.
She’s also unbeaten in all four starts over this sprinting distance and she has been given a freshen up for this run.
We won’t tip her for the win, but the place odds appeal.
Sandown free tips & form
Race 2. (13:20) Multi Handicap (1800m)
#1 – Red Choux’s @ $4.40 – BET NOW
There was plenty of merit in the run behind Angelucci last start at Caulfield.
The Darren Weir-trained runner has progressed through the grades nicely this season and he showed last start that he can perform with some of the best in this grade.
The son of New Zealand Derby-winning Jimmy Choux, Red Choux’s is a winner of two from nine starts, but he has finished in the money on six other occasions and that consistency could be rewarded again here.
Race 3. (13:55) Tab Handicap (1400m)
#6 – Life on the Wire @ $2.60 – BET NOW
The Tasmanian has shown the ability to handle racing in Melbourne after winning by 2.75 lengths at Sandown last start.
Trained by Scott Brunton, the five-time winner capped off some winning form at Launceston with a quality win last start and that’s not easy to do first-up in Melbourne.
This field looks more like a midweek race, so she could take advantage again.
Race 4. (14:30) Tab Handicap (1300m)
#4 – Mawzoona @ $4.40 – BET NOW
$4.40 is a great price for a filly on the rise.
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained three-year-old took awhile to get going, but she has performed highly with back-to-back wins.
The first came at Mornington by 1.75 lengths and she lapped them in the straight last start when scoring easily at Kilmore.
Rising to city grade is the obvious question mark, but she has a good turn-of-foot and that’s nice to have at this stage of the season.
Race 6. (15:50) Tab Handicap (1400m)
#7 – Ozi Choice @ $4 – BET NOW
Scoring consecutive wins coming into this, Ozi Choice looks well placed to make it three on the trot.
The Weir-trained sprinter scored by a length at Morphettville on December 2 before winning again last start by two lengths.
That came over a similar field to this and some punters might be put off by the wide draw, but he has good gate speed and he should be able to cross from out wide.
Race 7. (16:30) Tab Handicap R78 (1600m)
#6 – Ancient History @ $6 – BET NOW
The odds are appealing around this gelding which finished off well in this grade last start.
James Cummings lines up the five-year-old which has won two from 13 starts, but he has been around the mark throughout its career and bookmakers are offering some good each way value for the son of Shamardal.
