Quality teams hit the ice on Saturday and we have NHL picks and predictions for three of the best games.
We preview Flyers vs Capitals, Stars vs Lightning, and Avalanche vs Kings. All three games present NHL punters with excellent value.
NHL Betting Tips
Philadelphia Flyers vs Washington Capitals @ Capital One Arena
The East-leading Capitals look to extend their winning streak to three after beating the New York Rangers 6-3 and 4-2 this week.
They have won 34 games this season and the last five games against the Flyers, who managed to win the first meeting before getting outplayed since.
Washington is better at most things compared to Philadelphia, including goals scored, goals allowed, and points per game. However, injuries could play their part for the rest of the season.
Alex Ovechkin is unlikely to play after coming back and lasting just one shift. It was a disappointing return from injury, and it looks as though he might need more time.
His omission would give Philadelphia a chance to win and they are the more desperate team. Sitting in seventh position in the East, the Flyers need to improve on their playoff position.
Despite having a record of 23-23-7, the Flyers are capable of pulling off an upset and they have a healthy team. Washington has five players on the IR, so this game is there for the taking.
Take the value with Philadelphia as we can’t take the short odds for Washington without Ovechkin.
Bet: Philadelphia Flyers +1.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Dallas Stars vs Tampa Bay Lightning @ Amalie Arena
Tampa Bay is a tough team to beat at home with a 21-6 record, so that’s the task facing the struggling Dallas Stars.
The Lightning comes off consecutive wins over Detroit and Dallas, with the most recent victory coming 6-2. It was a one-sided affair for Tampa Bay, who could win its seventh game against the Stars this season.
Dallas has had nothing go its way of late, which includes five consecutive losses. They have scored just six goals from their last four games and four of those came in a 5-4 loss to the Florida Panthers.
Bookmakers have the Lightning as firm favourites to win and it’s hard to make a case for Dallas. The Stars are the more desperate team, but Tampa Bay is only four points back of Carolina in the Central division, so it has something to play for as well.
With only six losses at home, we can’t look past the Lightning. Punters will have to take $1.64, but that’s not a bad price for one of the form NHL teams.
Bet: Tampa Bay Lightning to win @ $1.64 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Colorado Avalanche vs Los Angeles Kings @ STAPLES Center
Colorado has been playing excellent hockey and although beaten last time on the ice, it can bounce back against Los Angeles.
The Avalanche had won three on the bounce before the 3-2 loss to San Jose, but with only 13 losses on the season, it’s not a frequent occurrence.
They have a winning record away from home and the Kings haven’t exactly been tough to beat. The Kings are 21-24-6 after winning three of their last four games, so the form has improved.
The current series score is 3-1 to Colorado and they are one of the biggest favourites on the card this Saturday. Punters will have to take skinny odds for Colorado to win, but we like the –1.5 goals betting market.
We wouldn’t recommend taking the miniscule odds in the head-to-head line, and we expect the Avalanche to score by an avalanche.
Expect Colorado to put up five goals against the Kings.
