The 2019 Rugby World Cup is only days away and there’s still time to place a futures’ bet on the tournament.
Teams from all around the world will compete for the William Webb Ellis Cup, which starts in September with hosts Japan taking on Russia.
Rugby is massive in Japan, so expect to see huge crowds to most games and the atmosphere will be intense.
We have 2019 Rugby World Cup expert betting predictions, which covers Tournament Winner, Winning Continent, Try Scorer markets and Points Scorer tips.
Rugby World Cup 2019 Tips
Best Bet: New Zealand @ $2.30 – Bet Now
At the top of our list is New Zealand. The All Blacks are currently the best team in the world and they have won the last two World Cups.
Having that winning experience will be key for this tournament. They have rarely been upset in the World Cup and punters are getting good odds considering.
Bookmakers did have the All Blacks as odds-on favourites, but some inconsistent form of late has seen those odds drift.
They didn’t win the Rugby Championship – that went to South Africa, but they were mostly trying out different combinations. No team wants to show their hand in the tournament leading into the World Cup.
We trust the All Blacks when it comes down to the crunch time. They are experienced and clearly the best team currently playing rugby.
Next Best: South Africa @ 4.50 – Bet Now
We’re not thrilled with the odds on offer for South Africa, but they deserves respect after winning the Rugby Championship.
It has a big turnaround in form after a dismal 2018 season. They looked shocking until they defeated Australia, Argentina and had a draw with the All Blacks this season.
South Africa are always tough to beat in the World Cup, despite losing to Japan in 2015. They have seemingly put those embarrassing losses behind them and come out stronger.
The odds aren’t great for South Africa but they could make the final and they’re worth having on your ticket.
Best Value: Wales @ $9.00 – Bet Now
The tournament odds for Wales drifted significantly after they were beaten by Ireland. However, punters shouldn’t look too much into that effort.
Prior to that loss they were rated the best team in the world in the rankings. That form must be respected and coach Warren Gatland will have his team ready to fire.
We are a little surprised that Wales are paying $9. That’s a nice price for a team that has been improving since the last World Cup.
Those odds should drop as the tournament progresses and we don’t think England deserves to be paying $4 less than Wales in the betting.
Rugby World Cup 2019 winning continent predictions
This is a relatively simple betting option but it could create some excitement.
Punters need to pick the winning continent, which includes Oceania, Europe, Africa, South American or any other.
Clearly, tournament favourites fall into Oceania along with Australia. That’s currently paying $1.65, but next on the betting line is Europe.
That’s paying $2.50 and you get the likes of England, Wales and Ireland.
However, the best value is with Africa at $6.50. It could be a misprint by bookmakers, but with South Africa paying $4.50 to win the tournament, we feel the team at BetEasy might have made a mistake.
If you’re liking South Africa to win the World Cup, it’s best to take Africa as the winning continent at $6.50.
Rugby World Cup 2019 top try scorer predictions
Punters have a wealth of betting options for the top try scorer. Typically, wingers are at the top of the pile and that’s the case here.
Current favourites include Rieko Ioane, Jacob Stockdale and Sevu Reece. All three wingers have a good chance of taking home the prize of top World Cup scorer.
Our top pick is Sevu Reece. The Fijian-born Kiwi has made a big impression since making his debut earlier this season.
Reece plays on the wing and should be receiving plenty of ball throughout the tournament. Our only worry is that he won’t be selected to play against the minnows.
That’s particularly a concern for the All Blacks players as they play only one tough opponent in South Africa. However, Reece is a good chance and he’s paying $10 with BetEasy.
Our second and final try scorer tip is Jonny May. The England winger is currently an $11 chance with BetEasy and he is being respected.
We opted to go for May instead of Irish winger Jacob Stockdale because we believe England will play more expansive football. That’s going to play in favour of May, who has good power and can steamroll through the defense.
It would be a little strange to see an English player score the most tries in a tournament, but England has been playing more aggressively over the last four years.
Take May as a saver bet for Sevu Reece.
Rugby World Cup 2019 top points scorer predictions
Best Bet: Owen Farrell @ $4.50 – Bet Now
This is the market where punters get to follow their favourite kicker. There’s no chance a try-scoring player will score the most points, so it comes down to the kickers.
Leading the market is South African kicker Handre Pollard, however we’re going with English kicker Owen Farrell.
The strength of the English forward pack results in penalties for the English. Therefore, Farrell is going to get plenty of opportunities to kick goals.
He’s also an accurate kicker and the conditions in Japan will be better than what he’s used to.
Best Value: Nicolas Sanchez @ $9.50 – Bet Now
Nicolas Sanchez appears to be a great value pick at the odds.
The Argentinian goal kicker is a threat from all around the park and he can even add five points by scoring the odd try.
Argentina are a team that likes to kick early goals and Sanchez can take advantage of that throughout the group stages.
If they make the finals, expect tight games where Argentina will be more likely to kick goals.
