Paul Gallen vs. Darcy Lussick Fight Picks & Predictions

Paul Gallen continues his impressive boxing career against fellow former NRL star Darcy Lussick on Wednesday night.

The 40-year-old comes off a loss to Justis Huni for the Australian heavyweight title, but he meets a much easier opponent at the Star Event Centre in Sydney.

The sportsbook has Gallen as the raging-hot favourite, but Lussick has power in his hands.

Gallen vs Lussick Predictions

Paul Gallen vs Darcy Lussick Fight Prediction

The fight is scheduled for only three rounds, which is surprising. Paul Gallen has shown that he can go 10 rounds with some of the best boxers in the division, but the limited preparation could have something to do with it.

Darcy Lussick has had only one fight, which ended after 39 seconds against former NRL player Justin Hodges. He scored a devastating knockout of the former Broncos star, but he now meets a much harder opponent.

Gallen showed his worth when knocking out former world champion Lucas Browne in April. He looked good in that fight, and although he lost to Huni, that was expected against a fulltime boxer.

Gallen has already dispatched many NRL players throughout his professional career, including John Hopoate and Junior Paulo. Lussick looks to have more explosive power in his hands, so he could prove a difficult opponent.

Bookmakers have Gallen at $1.17 to win outright, which is a fair price. Punters won’t get rich off backing Gallen in head-to-head markets, but he only needs to survive an early barrage from Lussick to win.

Both fighters should come out swinging because it’s only a three-round fight. They don’t need to leave anything in the tank for the later rounds, so expect to see fireworks.

“I feel good, I’m definitely ready,” Gallen told FoxSports. “It’s been a long preparation, postponed and everything. I’m ready, I’ve really clicked into gear the last couple of weeks. I was pretty passive when Darcy was announced a month ago.”

Adding Gallen to multi bets could be the best move. $1.17 isn’t every punters cup of tea, but there is money to be made in exotic betting markets.

Punters get $2.25 for Gallen to win by knockout. It’s not an easy betting option because it requires a big punch to land in only three rounds, but he should come out aggressive and with a point to prove.

Gallen is good enough to put Lussick on the canvas with his trademark right overhand.

Gallen vs Lussick Exotic Betting Picks

Round betting is where punters can find the best odds and we think backing Paul Gallen to win in Round 1 and Round 2 is the best betting strategy.

Backing both options gives punters some insurance and the odds are appealing. Gallen is paying $5.50 to win in the opening round and $5 to win in Round 2.

It adds some intrigue to the fight and the odds are worth taking.

We also like the fight to not go the distance. Bookmakers are offering $2.05 for the fight to be stopped at some stage, whether it be by Gallen or Lussick.

It’s a good betting option for those who respect the knockout power of Lussick, who could sneak a big right-hand bomb on the chin of Gallen.
