SBW vs. Gallen Tips
Best Bet
Sonny Bill Williams hasn’t fought since 2022 when he lost to Mark Hunt, but beating the former UFC fighter was always going to be tough.
He lost via TKO in the fourth round, which appeared to have ended his boxing career. However, prior to that loss, Williams was a handy boxer. He defeated some journeymen and promising boxers, including Frans Botha and Chauncy Welliver.
The New Zealand heavyweight is the slight favourite to beat Paul Gallen, who is more experienced at 15-2-1, but SBW has the height and reach advantage, who could make a big difference in this heavyweight fight.
Gallen is no mug in the boxing ring, and he has experience fighting Justis Huni and Kris Terzievski. He lost both fights understandably, before going back to fighting retired NRL stars in Justin Hodges and Ben Hannant.
We can’t say those fights are good form guides for fighting someone with the talent of Williams, which is why my best pick of Williams at $1.94. That’s a good price for the favourite, who could pick his spots in the fight over eight rounds.

SBW vs. Gallen Props

We often see exhibition fights going the distance, and although this isn’t technically an exhibition, everyone knows they came back because of the healthy pay day. That should see the fight go the distance, and it will likely be Williams winning by decision.
He doesn’t need to get close to Gallen, who arguably has the more powerful punch, but Williams is rangy, and he’s a smarter fighter. We can’t see Williams or Gallen suffering a knockout loss in Sydney.
Best Value Bet
We are hoping for odds around $2.45 for Williams to win by decision. He should control the tempo of the fight, and his reach advantage should be enough to keep Gallen at bay.
This fight should go to the judge’s scorecards, and given what we’ve seen from Williams, he should win with a few rounds to work with.
