College Basketball Picks

Houston Cougars vs. South Florida Bulls @ Yuengling Center

Houston’s season took a big hit when losing East Carolina last week. They were ranked inside top five, but the 82-73 shock loss didn’t do its tournament chances any good.

The Cougars rebounded with an easy 112-46 win over an inferior opponent, but it will be much harder on Thursday against a capable South Florida Bulls team.

The Bulls defeated Eastern Carolina 69-63 last week, which is a good form guide for this game. The season has been mixed for South Florida, but it has some quality performances on the record.

Losing by only one point to Memphis was a credible effort, and playing at home helps the Bulls in this situation.

Most of the early money has come for Houston, which is understandable as they are ranked eighth in the country. However, the best Houston team will need to turn up to play.

We give the nod to Houston, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see South Florida keep this game close.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Iowa Hawkeyes @ Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Two ranked teams do battle on Thursday as Rutgers enters enemy territory in Iowa.

The Scarlet Knights have rattled off four consecutive wins since losing to Penn State, including victories over Indiana, Michigan State and Minnesota.

Winning form isn’t something Iowa brings to the table, despite being a top-five team at one stage. The Hawkeyes have lost four of their last five games, with that win coming against Michigan State.

Iowa has one of the best NBA draft picks, Luka Garza, but that hasn’t resulted in success. Recent losses to Indiana, Ohio State and Illinois have Iowa in danger of losing its ranking.

At one stage, the Hawkeyes had a 12-2 record, and they are now 2.5 games behind Michigan in the Big Ten Conference. It has been a sizable fall from grace, but the talent is there.

Garza is averaging 25.5 points per game, but he’s not getting much help. The outside shooters for Iowa need to step up, as they are a solid defensive team.

Rutgers is a better defensive team, but it scores 15 points less on average than Iowa. That could be the difference on Thursday, so we give the slight edge to Iowa.

It’s a must-win game for the Hawkeyes, and the desperation could result in success.

Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Villanova Wildcats @ Finneran Pavillion

Villanova is quietly going about its business with a 12-2 record after beating Georgetown by 10 points.

The Wildcats suffered a setback when being upset by St Johns last week, but they are a classy team and that’s evident with their success over the last few years.

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl averages 15.3 points per game, and it is a solid team effort for the Wildcats. They have a stout defense, which allows only 67.9 points per game.

Marquette is 9-10 and hoping to get back to .500. The Golden Eagles comes off a close loss to Creighton, but it was their fourth loss from their last five games.

The only recent win came against Butler, but their performance against St Johns is a good form guide. Marquette lose by only two points, whereas Villanova lost by 11 points.

However, Villanova is the better team and we’re expecting them to be too strong. The Wildcats are set for a top-four ranking, and class should prevail in this contest.

Bet: Villanova Wildcats to winBet @ Sportsbet
