Friday College Football Picks

Temple Owls vs Rutgers Scarlet Knights @ SHI Stadium

Rutgers have been firmly backed to beat Temple on Friday. The New York-based school looked good at times last season, especially when beating Maryland 27-24 in overtime.

They would eventually lose to the Nebraska Cornhuskers to close out the season, but there were good signs for the future with the Scarlet Knights.

The same can’t be said for the Temple Owls, who lost their most recent game 28-3 to ECU. It capped off a disappointing season for Temple, who never got anything going from the outset.

It lost the last five games, and the closest margin was 12 points, so we’re not expecting that form to turnaround anytime soon.

Bookmakers have Rutgers at $1.13 to win, but we’re more interested in the points spread markets. Rutgers are the –14.5 favourites, which might seem like a high line, but given the respective abilities of the teams, they should win comfortably.

We can see the Scarlet Knights leading by 20 at the halftime break and never letting the foot off the gas.

Bet: Rutgers Scarlet Knights –14.5 @ $1.89Bet @ Sportsbet

Boise State Broncos vs UCF Knights @ Bounce House

In one of the more evenly matched games on the card, the UCF Knights host the Boise State Broncos in what should be a high-powered offensive game.

UCF faced BYU in their bowl match last season where they lost 49-23, but it was a successful season. They scored a standout 44-21 win over Houston, followed by a 38-13 win over Temple.

Another big game came against the seventh-seeded Cincinnati, who only won by three points. That was a fine effort in defeat, so it holds them in good stead for 2021.

Boise State also lost their bowl game against San Jose State, which followed three consecutive wins. The best form guide is its loss to BYU, which came by 34 points. It was a one-sided affair, more so than UCF’s game against BYU.

There isn’t much between UCF and Boise State. Home ground advantage could be key, and we’re not surprised bookmakers have given the Knights the slight edge. The margin is 5.5 points, which looks about right.

We think UCF wins, and we think they win by a touchdown. The –5.5 is the bet in what should be touchdown after touchdown.

Bet: UCF Knights –5.5 @ $1.89Bet @ Sportsbet

Ohio State Buckeyes vs Minnesota Golden Gophers @ TCF Bank Stadium

Ohio State is one of the best teams in college football and the Buckeyes are ranked fourth best in the nation to start the season.

They looked excellent last season when beating Clemson 49-28 in the first round of playoffs before losing to Alabama 52-24 in the College Football Final.

Losing your star quarterback to the NFL is never easy to recover from, but the Buckeyes have a habit of recruiting the best players, so it shouldn’t have too much of an effect.

Minnesota is a solid team on its day. The Golden Gophers defeated the likes of Purdue and Nebraska last season, so the class is there with this unit. However, we don’t think they can pull off an upset in the opening game.

The current online betting line is 13.5, which is generous for Ohio State backers. The Buckeyes can put up 50 points on teams like Minnesota, and although it should be a lower scoring game than that, they should still win comfortably.

We expect the line to move to around 15.5 come game time, so lock in the value as 13.5 is a key number. It means they can win by two touchdowns and cover the spread, so get in now.

Bet: Ohio State Buckeyes –13.5 @ $1.90Bet @ Sportsbet
