The Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes have progressed to the Big Bash final on Sunday night.
Both teams were underdogs heading into their semi-final games against the Renegades and Scorchers respectively, but they showed just how unpredictable T20 cricket can be.
They were classy in victory despite having inferior teams on paper, but they deserve their spot in Sunday’s final and it should be one of the more exciting Big Bash finals in history.
The big news is that D’Arcy Short returns for the Hurricanes, which makes them a formidable side and he also offers punters with some great value.
We look at the best bets for the Big Bash final and there’s also some great exotic betting options being offered by bookmakers. (BET NOW)
Strikers vs. Hurricanes Big Bash final betting tip
The Strikers scored a total of 178-5 against the Melbourne Renegades in their semi-final and it was just enough to secure the victory.
Despite some heroics by Tom Cooper and Kieron Pollard, the Renegades came up one run short of the Strikers, who advanced to the Big Bash final.
Travis Head was awarded Player of the Game after scoring 85 from 57 balls and that really put the Strikers into the pole position.
Quality opener Jake Weatherald scored a handy 57 and although the middle order was skittled for only eight runs between three batsmen, the damage was done by the star players.
Travis Head was also the pick of the bowlers, going for only 27 runs from four overs and picking up the wicket of Marcus Harris.
Harris was on 45 runs at the time of his dismissal and that wicket turned momentum to the Strikers side.
It wasn’t quite as exciting for the Hurricanes, but the victory was the more impressive.
Despite not having BBL runs leader D’Arcy Short in the lineup, the Hurricanes scored a whopping 210 runs for only four wickets.
We liked the chances of Matthew Wade top scoring for the Hurricanes and he did just that with a superb 71-run effort.
Ben McDermott chimed in with an unbeaten 67 runs off 30 balls and it was a truly impressive display from the Tasmanian franchise.
What was even more impressive was the bowling effort. The Scorchers were rolled for 139 in the mammoth chase and big Dan Christian was the star of the show, taking four wickets and giving up only 17 runs.
Tom Rogers took three wickets of his own and it was another polished performance from the underrated team.
Bookmakers have the Hurricanes as $2 underdogs (BET NOW) and we can’t get over the value on offer.
D’Arcy Short is back and punters should be confident that he’ll contribute positively to the game. Matthew Wade and Tim Paine back up Short in the order and that makes for a tough batting line up.
It would be silly to discount the Strikers given that this is a final, but the value is clearly with the Hobart Hurricanes on Sunday night.
Big Bash final exotic bets
There are many great exotic betting options to choose from at Sportsbet.com.au, but we’ve picked out our best five.
Our favourite is for four Hurricanes players to hit a six. We’re confident in their ability to hit the big ball and with the likes of Short, Wade, Paine and even Dan Christian in the side, it shouldn’t be too tough to hit this option.
It’s currently paying $2.15 at Sportsbet (BET NOW) and it’s one of the shortest-priced exotic options on offer.
Another good betting option is for George Bailey to score 20+ runs and take a catch. The seasoned professional isn’t dynamic with the bat in hand, but he’s a steady scorer and scoring 20 runs isn’t a tough task for him.
It’s down to pure luck if he takes a catch in the field, but this option pays $3.75 (BET NOW) and that’s worth the risk.
We’re supremely confident that Short and Wade will score at least 15 and the Strikers also have capable openers.
We’re loading up heavily on the talents of D’Arcy Short, but Sportsbet is offering another option and he gets some help from two other quality players.
Alex Carey, D’Arcy Short and Travis Head to combine for 100 runs pays $4 (BET NOW) with Sportsbet and that’s a great betting option.
We’re expecting one of those players to score a big total and this option shouldn’t be overly stressful for value punters.
The last exotic bet that has taken our eye is for Dan Christian to hit two or more sixes and take a wicket in the match.
He’s a dynamic player with both bat and ball, so punters could have some fun with this option.
Strikers vs. Hurricanes Man of the Match tip
There are many candidates for Man of the Match, but we’re going to stick with the Hurricanes’ players.
It would be a great story for D’Arcy to come back and take the honours after missing the semi-final. He would need to score a big total with the bat, but we’re backing him in at odds of $8 (BET NOW).
He’s a popular player in Australia and he would get a few votes based on his popularity alone, but teammate Dan Christian could be the best value play.
Christian comes in down the batting order, which means his innings could be the most crucial. He’s also a key player with the ball and that could see him win the Man of the Match.
We are shocked at the $13 on offer and those odds should drop considerably (BET NOW).
If you’re playing the Strikers, strike bowler Ben Laughlin represents value at $13 (BET NOW). He could make a difference in the eaely stages of the game and stifle the Hurricanes’ bats.
