Who will join the winner of the Scorchers vs. Hurricanes game in the BBL final? It’ll either be the Adelaide Strikers or the Melbourne Renegades.
Two of the best T20 cricket teams in Australia will do battle this Friday night in Adelaide and it’s sure to be a cracking contest.
Bookmakers currently have the visiting Melbourne side as the favourites and that means punters for both sides will get a fair price in this game.
Adelaide Strikers form
We’re not sure the Adelaide Strikers deserve to be underdogs after finishing second on the ladder and their only recent losses came to the Perth Scorchers.
Adelaide set a total of only 137 against the Scorchers last week, which was a disappointing result for the club, but their form prior to that loss was exceptional.
The Strikers put up totals of 187 and 173 against the Hurricanes and Renegades, who they face this Friday night and on their home soil.
Some punters might look at the Strikers’ batting lineup and start to ask questions, but despite not having any bona fide superstars, the Strikers are capable of putting it all together on the night.
Colin Ingram, Jake Weatherald and Jono Dean are all capable of making a big score on any given day and even their tail enders are capable with the bat in hand.
Experience customer Peter Siddle knows what it takes to win big games and his leadership with the ball could be enough to frustrate the big-hitting Renegades side.
Siddle, along with Ben Laughlin and Liam O’Connor, could fire up early in the innings with the ball and the Strikers would go a long way to winning if either one of them gets hot.
Bookmakers currently have the Strikers as $1.95 underdogs (BET NOW).
Melbourne Renegades form
The Renegades caused a big upset when beating the Brisbane Heat last week and it was a truly dominant affair.
Melbourne scored 187-3 and the Heat were all out for 161. That win will give the men in red plenty of confidence for their semifinal clash and despite a couple of recent losses, they look to be in good form.
Losses to the Strikers and Stars threatened to derail the BBL campaign for the Renegades, but they managed to salvage a successful season which could extend to the final.
Incredibly, the Renegades haven’t been bowled out in any of their 10 games this season and that speaks volumes of their depth.
It’s tough to get bowled out when you have the likes of Cameron White, Marcus Harris and Tom Cooper in the squad, just to name a few.
If the top order does get rolled then the Renegades can call upon Tim Ludeman, Kieran Pollard or Dwayne Bravo to see them home.
The team is stacked full of offensive talent and although the bowling lineup isn’t the best in the BBL, spinner Brad Hogg is effective and knows how to take wickets.
The Renegades are currently $1.85 at Sportsbet (BET NOW).
Top Strikers runscorer
Jono Dean is a handy middle order option for the Strikers and he could show up at odds here.
Dean hasn’t quite exploded this season as he has in others, but he’s currently $5.50 (BET NOW) to be the top scorer for the Strikers and that’s solid value in an even team.
Top Renegades runscorer
It’s tough to pick one player from a team stacked full of talent, but we’re predicting a big effort from Tom Cooper.
Cooper has the ability to turn the match on its head at any given point in time and his big-hitting ability makes him a threat to be top scorer.
He’s currently $4.50 at Sportsbet to better his teammates (BET NOW).
Strikers vs. Renegades game tip
We think the bookmakers are disrespecting the home team on this occasion, but we’re going to have to side with the visitors.
The Melbourne Renegades simply have too much firepower in the betting lineup and that’s tough to overlook in a do-or-die BBL game.
The depth is incredible and although the bowlers aren’t quite as good as the Strikers, Adelaide could be chasing a big total if the Renegades are put into bat first.
That will put pressure on the Strikers batsmen and we can see them crumbling.
Melbourne is $1.85 at Sportsbet and that’s good value – BET NOW.
