The first midweek round of fixtures in the Premier League threw up the inevitable drama as Liverpool climbed back to the top of the table with a late win over Tottenham. Manchester City dropped further points with a disappointing home draw with West Bromwich Albion, in what proved to be Slavan Bilic’s last game in charge of the club. Chelsea lost their second game in a row at Wolves whilst Manchester United ensured that Sheffield United’s wait for a first win of the season continued.
Here are our picks for the next round of fixtures in the Premier League:
EPL Week 14 Tips
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool – Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace ($6.6)
Table topping Liverpool head to Crystal Palace in what promises to be an entertaining encounter in East London. The Eagles picked up a solid point on the road at West Ham last time out and look to have their wits about them in the Premier League this season and they tend to up their game against the big teams. Liverpool meanwhile should be buoyed from their late win over Tottenham in midweek that saw them return to the Premier League’s summit. Their away form has been a question mark as yet this term and they should have enough to prove the doubters wrong here.
Betting tip: Liverpool to win the match and both teams to score ($2.5) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Liverpool to win 2-1
Southampton vs Manchester City – St Mary’s Stadium
Manchester City ($1.52)
Southampton will be looking for their next scalp as they welcome a beleaguered Manchester City to the South Coast. The Saints picked up a solid point on the road at Arsenal last time out and look to be mixing it with the big boys this season – currently sitting 3rd in the Premier League table. For City meanwhile this has the feel of a must win game already. Their 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion in midweek lacked potency and urgency and they will be out to prove some doubters wrong this weekend. On paper this should be an excellent game and with Southampton in good nick, this could turn out to be an entertaining draw.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($4.8) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Everton vs Arsenal – Goodison Park
Arsenal travel to Everton as they look to ease the growing pressure on manager and former Toffee Mikel Arteta. The Merseysiders are in excellent form, having beaten Leicester and Chelsea in their last two matches and they are sure to be relishing this contest. Sitting inside the top half of the table will be something Everton will be looking to cling onto as the hectic festive period looms. Arsenal meanwhile are languishing down in 15th and look to have a mountain to climb this term. Their draw with Southampton in midweek was a deserved result and if things don’t go their way here, problems could mount in North London. This should be a very good game with a draw looking the most likely outcome.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.55) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Newcastle United vs Fulham – St James’s Park
Newcastle United ($2.68)
Newcastle will be looking to bounce back from a pasting on the road at Leeds in midweek as they host Fulham. The Toon beat West Brom comfortably last weekend but their defeat at Elland Road could take some getting over and they will want an instant response here. Fulham meanwhile have been a side improved in recent times and back-to-back draws with Liverpool and Brighton have lifted the mood at Craven Cottage. This could be a big ask for Scott Parker’s men however and Newcastle look overpriced to win here at home.
Betting tip: Newcastle United to win the match ($2.68) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Newcastle United to win 2-1
Brighton vs Sheffield United – AMEX Stadium
Sheffield United ($6)
Brighton will be looking to put further distance between themselves and the relegation zone as they take on Sheffield United. The Seagulls fought hard to pick up a point at Fulham last time out and appear to be a side improving with every outing in the Premier League this season. Sheffield United meanwhile have been in terrible nick so far this season and with only 1 point collected from 13 games played, the writing appears to already be on the wall for Chris Wilder’s men. This could be a cagey encounter with Brighton the most likely to prevail by the odd goal.
Betting tip: Brighton to win the match ($1.75) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Brighton to win 1-0
Tottenham vs Leicester City – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Leicester City ($3.75)
Two sides that sit on the periphery in the race for the Premier League this season face off as Tottenham host Leicester City. Spurs were condemned to a tough defeat on the road at Liverpool last time out but still sit second in the league table and are currently getting all the plaudits under Jose Mourinho. Leicester meanwhile demonstrated their inconsistency this term, with a win over Brighton backed up with a home loss to Everton and they will want an instant response here. Leicester should take the game to Tottenham here, but Spurs are very long in the tooth and they should prevail at home in this one.
Betting tip: Tottenham to win the match ($2.15) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Tottenham to win 2-0
Manchester United vs Leeds United – Old Trafford
Manchester United ($1.75)
Leeds United ($4.8)
A classic Premier League rivalry is reignited as Manchester United host Leeds United with no love lost between the two sides. The reds have improved markedly in recent weeks in the Premier League and their gutsy win over Sheffield United was testament to that. Aspirations of European football next season look to be high on the agenda and they will be wanting to maintain their form over the festive period. Leeds meanwhile have made a real splash on their return to the Premier League and they will be relishing this type of occasion. Fresh from their 5-2 win over Newcastle in midweek should be fresh on their mind and they could pick up another valuable point here.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($4.25) – Bet @ Sportsbet
West Bromwich Albion vs Aston Villa – The Hawthorns
West Bromwich Albion ($3.8)
Aston Villa ($2.1)
A Midlands Derby concludes the Sunday action as West Bromwich Albion host local rivals Aston Villa. Despite a gutsy draw at Manchester City in midweek, the Baggies decided to replace Slavan Bilic with Sam Allardyce and they will be hoping to climb the table quickly with the former England manager in charge. Villa meanwhile continue to impress in the Premier League and despite their 0-0 draw with Burnley in midweek, they look a side full of confidence this term. This could be a very tight game at the Hawthorns and with a new manager bounce expected, this could turn out to be a draw.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.9) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Burnley vs Wolves – Turf Moor
Two sides looking to build on decent recent form face off as Burnley host Wolves. The Clarets are edging their way out of relegation trouble week by week and with 4 points in the bag from away trips to Arsenal and Aston Villa, they should be confident returning to their happy place here. Wolves meanwhile should too be buoyed by recent results and their late win over Chelsea in midweek could be the catalyst to a successful festive period. This could be an attritional encounter between two organised sides and a draw could well be on the cards in Lancashire.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.3) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Chelsea vs West Ham United – Stamford Bridge
West Ham United ($7)
A London Derby between Chelsea and West Ham and Crystal Palace concludes the weekend calendar, and it promises to be a classic at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will be reeling from back-to-back losses on the road at Everton and Wolves and will want to respond at home against a team they notoriously have little time for. The Hammers meanwhile have been a success story this season under David Moyes and this will be a real test of their credentials. Despite West Ham being in good form, Chelsea should bounce back here and take all three points.
Betting tip: Chelsea to win the match and both teams to score ($2.75) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Chelsea to win 2-1
