Manchester City kept pace in the Premier League title race with an entertaining win over fellow title rivals Chelsea whilst Leicester and Liverpool picked up crucial wins on the road. Manchester United and Arsenal were held by Sheffield United and Southampton respectively whilst Jose Mourinho picked up his first win as Tottenham manager at the expense of West Ham. Elsewhere, Everton slipped further into the relegation mire with a disappointing home defeat to Norwich City whilst Aston Villa picked up a big win over fellow strugglers Newcastle United.
Here are our picks for the 14th round of fixtures in the Premier League:
2019/20 EPL Week 14 Preview
Newcastle United vs Manchester City – St James’s Park
Newcastle United ($17)
Manchester City ($1.21)
Manchester City look to strike first this weekend as they travel to St James’s Park to take on Newcastle United. Steve Bruce’s men have impressed at times this season and currently sit 15th following a slow start and they will be looking for a response following their poor showing on the road at Aston Villa last time out. Manchester City have been cut 9 points adrift already in the title race but they showed real resolve last time out to come back and win against Chelsea. They are chasing a third consecutive Premier League title and are showing no signs of letting up under Pep Guardiola. Newcastle notoriously make it tough for visiting sides but City should come through this test unscathed.
Betting tip: Manchester City to win the match and both teams to score ($2.35) Bet Now
Manchester City to win 3-1
Burnley vs Crystal Palace – Turf Moor
Crystal Palace ($3.5)
Two sides that have top half aspirations this season face off as Crystal Palace travel to Lancashire to take on Burnley. The Clarets find themselves 7th in the Premier League table following back to back 3-0 wins over West Ham United and Watford. Sean Dyche’s men carry more of a goal threat this season and they will be looking to play on the front foot here. Crystal Palace have been in solid form all season but they have slipped to 13th in the table following three consecutive defeats. They tend to play their best football on the road and should take confidence from pushing Liverpool all the way last time out. This should be an excellent game between two strong Premier League sides and it could well end up honours even.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.22) Bet Now
Chelsea vs West Ham United – Stamford Bridge
West Ham United ($13)
A classic London Derby is on the cards on Saturday afternoon as Chelsea host West Ham United at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s 6 game winning streak in the Premier League came to an end at the expense of Manchester City last time out but Frank Lampard’s side will take heart from pushing the Champions all the way and they still sit 4th in the table. West Ham meanwhile need a response after an appalling run of form that has seen them slip to 17th and the pressure has ramped up on Manuel Pellegrini and his men. Sat only three points above the drop zone, the Hammers need things to change quickly but they will have their work cut out here and Chelsea should pick up a comfortable home win.
Betting tip: Chelsea to win the match and both teams to score ($2.1) Bet Now
Chelsea to win 3-1
Liverpool vs Brighton – Anfield
Champions elect Liverpool host Brighton in what should be an entertaining fixture on Saturday afternoon. Jurgen Klopp’s men sit 8 points clear at the top of the league and continue to fight on four fronts this season with domestic trophies at the forefront of their thinking in 2019/20. Graham Potter’s Brighton side have impressed at times this season but their form away from home has been their Achilles heel for much of the campaign. They came up well short against Leicester last time out and they will need to sure things up at the back against a rampant Liverpool side. The reds should have absolutely no problem here at Anfield.
Betting tip: Liverpool to win the match to nil ($2.05) Bet Now
Liverpool to win 3-0
Tottenham vs Bournemouth – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Tottenham host Bournemouth in Jose Mourinho’s first home Premier League game in charge. Tottenham are languishing in 10th position in the table but look to have found a new lease of life under the ‘Special One’ – winning their last two matches in all competitions. The Cherries’ lack of consistency has held them back in recent seasons and it appears to be rearing its ugly head again; epitomised by their 2-1 home loss to Wolves last time out and Eddie Howe’s side have slipped into the bottom half as a result. Bournemouth tend to struggle on the road and Tottenham should come through this one in front of their home faithful.
Betting tip: Tottenham to win the match and both teams to score ($2.25) Bet Now
Tottenham to win 3-1
Southampton vs Watford – St Mary’s Stadium
A classic relegation six pointer looks to be on the cards on the South coast as Southampton host bottom of the table Watford. The Saints themselves sit 19th in the table and look to be very much in the relegation mire this term but they showed real heart on the road last time out to pick up a point at Arsenal. They have only acquired 9 points this season and they will be hoping to put on a showing for their home fans here. Watford have only won once in the league this season and the manner of their home defeat to Burnley will be a real concern for all connected with the club. The Hornets sit bottom of the Premier League table and they need to start picking up points quickly to avoid the drop. This should be a very cagey affair with both sides low on confidence but home support could well just push Southampton over the line.
Betting tip: Southampton to win the match ($2.15) Bet Now
Southampton to win 1-0
Norwich City vs Arsenal – Carrow Road
Norwich City ($4.3)
Arsenal will be looking for a long awaited Premier League win as they travel to Norwich City. Things are looking desperate for the Norwich who sit 18th in the table and three points from safety but their 2-0 win at Everton last time out will give all at the club a huge boost. They have picked up the majority of their points this season at home and they will be hoping to make life tough for Arsenal. The Gunners will be looking to bounce back from a string of bad results as they just can’t seem to find a win in the Premier League. They salvaged a last gasp point at home to Southampton last time out and Unai Emery will be keen to see his side put in a strong performance here as the pressure mounts on him. Norwich won’t roll over here but Arsenal should have too much about them and tend to play with more freedom on the road.
Betting tip: Arsenal to win the match and both teams to score ($2.85) Bet Now
Arsenal to win 3-2
Wolves vs Sheffield United – Molineux
Sheffield United ($4.5)
Two sides in excellent form face off in the West Midlands as Wolves take on Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon. Wolves have climbed to 5th following an excellent run of form in recent weeks and the manner of their win over Bournemouth last time out was an indicator of the confidence flowing through the squad currently. Sheffield United meanwhile were involved in a Premier League classic with Manchester United last time out and they will be looking to take confidence from their 90th minute equaliser. The Blades have been in fine form all season and reside in 6th position in the table, with only one defeat since late-September. This should be an entertaining game between two well matched sides and home advantage could push Wolves over the line.
Betting tip: Wolves to win the match ($2) Bet Now
Wolves to win 1-0
Leicester City vs Everton – King Power Stadium
Leicester City ($1.68)
Two sides operating at opposite ends of the Premier League table face off at the King Power as Leicester City host Everton on Sunday afternoon. The Foxes sit 2nd in the table and the manner of their comfortable win over Brighton last time out was an indicator of how far Brendan Rodgers’s side have come under his stewardship. Everton meanwhile have struggled all season and the pressure on manager Marco Silva is mounting at an alarming rate. Fans voiced their discontent last time out as they lost at home to Norwich and the Toffees will be hoping for a big response here. Everton tend to play more expansively on the road but Leicester are in incredible form and the Foxes should pick up an important three points here.
Betting tip: Leicester City to win the match and both teams to score ($2.95) Bet Now
Leicester City to win 2-1
Manchester United vs Aston Villa – Old Trafford
Manchester United ($1.52)
Aston Villa ($7.6)
Manchester United will be looking to continue their decent form in recent weeks as they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford. United looked down and out against Sheffield United last time out but showed real heart to pick up a point on the road – a result that has seen them climb to 9th place in the table. Aston Villa meanwhile arrive full of confidence following a solid win over Newcastle on Monday Night – a result that has seen them climb up to 14th place in the table. Survival will be top of the agenda for manager Dean Smith and he will be hoping his side can make life difficult for United here. The Red Devils haven’t had things all their own way this term and may find this tricky against a young Villa side but they should come through this test at Old Trafford.
