Liverpool’s precision towards the Premier League title continued following their gritty win over Brighton whilst champions Manchester City dropped points once more – this time at Newcastle United. Elsewhere, Tottenham continued their good form under Jose Mourinho – sneaking past Bournemouth whilst Unai Emery became the latest manager to lose his job after being sacked by Arsenal. At the bottom of the table, Southampton picked up a precious win over fellow strugglers Watford as the battle to avoid the drop intensifies.
Here are our picks for the 15th round of fixtures in the Premier League:
2019/20 EPL Week 15 Preview
Burnley vs Manchester City – Turf Moor
Manchester City ($1.23)
Manchester City are in desperate need of points as their title challenge looks to be slipping away before they head to Burnley. The Clarets have been faring well in the Premier League all season but the manner of their home defeat to Crystal Palace last time out will be a real disappointment for Sean Dyche’s men. Manchester City meanwhile are in a poor run of form by their own impeccably high standards and their 2-2 draw with Newcastle last time out was a chastening display. Pep Guardiola’s men are still fighting on four fronts and should never be written off but it feels like now or never if they are to lift a third consecutive Premier League title. Burnley notoriously make it tough for visiting sides but City should just about come through this test with three points.
Betting tip: Manchester City to win the match and both teams to score ($2) Bet Now
Manchester City to win 2-1
Crystal Palace vs Bournemouth – Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace ($2.15)
Two sides looking to maintain their places in mid-table face off in East London as Crystal Palace host Bournemouth. Roy Hodgson’s men got back to winning ways last time out on the road at Burnley and they look to have sorted their defensive frailties out in recent weeks. Palace have played their best stuff away from home in the past couple of seasons and they will need to be aware of the multiple threats Bournemouth pose here, The Cherries’ lack of consistency has held them back in recent seasons and they came up short last time out despite putting in a honourable showing at Tottenham on Saturday. Both sides carry plenty of goal threats and this should be an excellent game between two strong Premier League sides and it could well end up honours even.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.62) Bet Now
Chelsea vs Aston Villa – Stamford Bridge
Aston Villa ($13)
Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from consecutive Premier League defeats as they host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea sit 4th in the Premier League table and have started life under Frank Lampard impressively but they looked vulnerable against West Ham last time out and they will be hoping the loss of Tammy Abraham isn’t too costly. Aston Villa have acquitted themselves really well in the top flight this season and it will see the return of John Terry to Stamford Bridge as Villa’s assistant manager. Survival will be top of the agenda for manager Dean Smith and he will be hoping his side can make life difficult for Chelsea here. Chelsea haven’t been in brilliant form of late but they should have too much fire power for Villa here.
Betting tip: Chelsea to win the match and both teams to score ($2.35) Bet Now
Chelsea to win 3-1
Leicester City vs Watford – King Power Stadium
Leicester City ($1.4)
Two sides operating at opposite ends of the Premier League table face off at the King Power as Leicester City host Watford. The Foxes have enjoyed a stellar season under Brendan Rodgers this season and they will be hoping to keep their incredible form going as they look to finish the season inside the top 4 and qualify for the Champions League. Watford have only won once in the league this season and the manner of their home defeat and they don’t look to be able to hold on to leads in any game that they play. They lost a crucial six-pointer to Southampton last time out and they need to improve quickly if they are to avoid the drop. Watford do carry multiple threats but Leicester are a side in fine form and they should have no issues defeating the Hornets here.
Betting tip: Leicester City to win the match and both teams to score ($2.25) Bet Now
Leicester City to win 3-1
Manchester United vs Tottenham – Old Trafford
Manchester United ($2.64)
Two sides with top 4 aspirations face off as Manchester United welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford with the backdrop of Jose Mourinho’s return to Old Trafford as the heart of the narrative. United have endured a mixed season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and they will be looking to see results improve quickly with the hectic festive season very much on the horizon. Tottenham have seen an upturn in results since the arrival of Jose Mourinho and they will be looking to keep their 3 game winning streak in all competitions going. Spurs look to have much more flair in forward areas since the arrival of Mourinho but defensively they do look a little vulnerable. This promises to be the most high profile match of the game week and it could well end up as a dar at Old Trafford.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.5) Bet Now
Liverpool vs Everton – Anfield
Champions elect Liverpool take on Everton in an eagerly anticipated Merseyside Derby. Jurgen Klopp’s men well clear of the chasing pack in the race for the Premier League title and they will be desperate to maintain their healthy lead in a fixture that has historically caused them many problems. Everton meanwhile have struggled all season and the pressure on manager Marco Silva is mounting at an alarming rate. They are engrossed in a relegation battle currently and they will be wanting to climb the table as quickly as possible. Derbies are always interesting fixtures and whilst Everton have plenty of scope to hurt Liverpool, the reds should have far too much quality in key areas here.
Betting tip: Liverpool to win the match and both teams to score ($2) Bet Now
Liverpool to win 3-1
Southampton vs Norwich City – St Mary’s Stadium
Norwich City ($4.75)
A classic relegation six pointer looks to be on the cards on the South coast as Southampton host Norwich City. The Saints picked up a vital three points against fellow strugglers Watford last time out and they look to be showing real heart in the scrap for survival. Norwich meanwhile have only picked up one win on the road this term and look to be struggling to come to terms with life in the Premier League. Both sides have survival at the top of their respective agendas and whilst this shouldn’t be a classic, it should make for an enthralling watch. Southampton look to have a little more about them and for that reason should come through this with 3 points in the bag.
Betting tip: Southampton to win the match ($1.76) Bet Now
Southampton to win 2-1
Wolves vs West Ham United – Molineux
West Ham United ($5)
Wolves host West Ham in the West Midlands in what promises to be an entertaining game between two forward thinking sides. Wolves have got over their slow start and look to have aspirations of getting involved in European football once again this season. They have assured their progress to the last 16 of the Europa League and now look to be focusing on establishing themselves in the upper regions of the Premier League this term. Meanwhile, West Ham have lacked consistency this season and the pressure looked to be very much on Manuel Pellegrini before he engineered an impressive win at Chelsea last time out. This could be a very entertaining game at Molineux and whilst Wolves will start as the heavy favourites – it could well end up honours even.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw ($3.95) Bet Now
Sheffield United vs Newcastle United – Bramall Lane
Sheffield United ($2)
Newcastle United ($4.5)
Sheffield United will be hoping to maintain their superb start to life in the Premier League as they welcome Newcastle United to South Yorkshire. The Blades have been in fine form all season under Chris Wilder and they look to be assured of Premier League safety even at this early stage. With a unique style of play, they seem to be catching sides unawares and they will be looking to take the game to Newcastle from the outset. Steve Bruce Newcastle have impressed this season and they picked up a fantastic point against Champions Manchester City last time out. Survival will still be at the forefront of their thinking this term but should they continue to pick up points, they may even be eying up a mid-table finish. This could be a lot tighter game than many expect but Sheffield United should just about edge this one.
Betting tip: Sheffield United to win the match ($2) Bet Now
Sheffield United to win 1-0
Arsenal vs Brighton – Emirates Stadium
Arsenal’s first home game following the sacking of Unai Emery promises to be a difficult one as they take on Brighton. The Gunners have struggled significantly in recent weeks and their poor form instigated the decision to remove Emery of his duties. They will feel they have time to rectify the situation over the course of the season and they will be looking to improve over the festive period. Brighton meanwhile pushed Liverpool very close last time out and they will be hoping for a repeat performance here. They have impressed at times during the season but their away form could push them towards danger if they are not careful. This should be an entertaining game between two forward thinking teams but Arsenal should possess to much fire power here.
