The first midweek set of fixtures arrives as the hectic festive period starts to take shape in the Premier League. Manchester City still lead the way following their attritional win over Bournemouth whilst Liverpool kept touch in dramatic fashion by beating Everton in the dying embers of the Merseyside Derby. Chelsea and Arsenal clinched local pride with wins over Fulham and Tottenham respectively whilst the problems continue to mount for Manchester United – who drew with Southampton.
Despite their draw, Southampton decided to part company with Mark Hughes on Monday meaning the Saints are looking for a new manager to pull them away from relegation trouble as soon as possible.
Here are our picks for the fifteenth round of fixtures in the Premier League:
Bournemouth vs Huddersfield Town – Vitality Stadium
Huddersfield Town ($5.5)
High-flying Bournemouth kick off the midweek Premier League programme by welcoming Huddersfield Town to the South Coast, who have improved in recent weeks as their survival effort begins to take shape. The Cherries are operating in the upper echelons of the Premier League, despite four defeats on the spin and they will be looking to get back to winning ways here in front of their home fans. The Cherries sit 9th in the Premier League, with 20 points to their name and they will be hoping to kick on once again over the hectic festive period. Four consecutive defeats at the hands of both Manchester clubs, Newcastle and Arsenal have stalled their progress in recent weeks and they’ll be keen to respond here. With 10 points to their name from their opening 14 games played, the Terriers look to be engrossed in a basement battle once again this season. Their 2-1 defeat to Brighton last time out ended a 3-match unbeaten run and they will be hoping to get points on the board again here. Huddersfield will be difficult to break down and have a habit of picking up points on the road but Bournemouth are a strong side and should get the job done here.
Betting tip: Bournemouth to win the match and both teams to score ($3.75) – BET NOW
Bournemouth to win 2-1
Brighton vs Crystal Palace – AMEX Stadium
Crystal Palace ($2.9)
Two South Coast rivals face off on Tuesday evening as Crystal Palace travel to Brighton with both sides looking to build upon big wins last time out. With no love lost between the two sides, it promises to be a real hum-dinger at the AMEX and with both sides still loitering above the relegation places, it could be a fascinating battle. Brighton put an end to their 3 match winless run, beating Huddersfield 2-1 on the road in what could be a crucial result in the context of their season. With 18 points to their name, Chris Hughton will be hoping his side have enough about them to steer away from the drop zone this term. With 4 points from their last 2 matches, Crystal Palace look to have turned the corner in recent weeks (draw with Manchester United and win over Burnley). Having climbed to 14th in the table and with 12 points to their name, they are far from safe however and need to keep picking up points. Brighton will look to exploit home advantage here against Crystal Palace but they are defensively resolute, whist possessing attacking options and this could well end up honours even.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.95) – BET NOW
West Ham United vs Cardiff City – London Olympic Stadium
West Ham United ($1.75)
Cardiff City ($5.5)
The relegation landscape has another fixture to deal with on Tuesday evening as revitalised Cardiff City travel to West Ham in what promises to be a fascinating battle at the London Olympic Stadium. Both sides picked up important victories last time out but are far from free of relegation trouble and this should be a very entertaining clash of styles in East London. Another brilliant away win – against Newcastle last time out – will have given West Ham fans real cause for optimism going into the festive period. Manuel Pellegrini’s men now sit 13th in the Premier League table, with 15 points to their name and they’ll be eager to kick on here. Neil Warnock’s men were inspired last time out, coming from behind to beat Wolves and pull themselves out of the relegation zone. Cardiff have 11 points to their name after 14 games played and will be keen to pick up their first away win of the season here. Cardiff City are a very tough side to break down and it could be a long evening for West Ham but with the class in their ranks, they should manage to get the job done here.
Betting tip: West Ham United to win the match and both teams to score ($3.5) – BET NOW
West Ham United to win 2-1
Watford vs Manchester City – Vicarage Road
Manchester City ($1.32)
Champions Manchester City travel to North London to take on Watford in what promises to be an entertaining encounter under the floodlights on Tuesday evening. City have been imperious this season, only dropping 4 points in defence of their title and with the festive period looming large, they will need to keep winning games like this in order to retain their title. The Hornets have dropped to 10th in the table, with the all too familiar strong start to the season in danger of fading. Javi Gracia’s men are in the midst of a 4 match streak without a win and the manner of their defeat at Leicester last time out will be concerning for all connected with the club. The Manchester City train continues to roll on with Bournemouth the latest victim in Pep Guardiola’s charge to retain his title. With qualification for the next round of the Champions League assured and a Carabao Cup quarter final in waiting, City continue to fight on four fronts. Whilst slightly out of form, Watford are a strong side that will give Manchester City problems both in defence and attack. City however are the Champions for a reason and their knowhow in games such as this should give them a significant upper hand and should be enough to see all three points return to Manchester.
Betting tip: Manchester City to win the match and both teams to score ($2.65) – BET NOW
Manchester City to win 3-1
5:45am Burnley vs Liverpool – Turf Moor
Two sides with very differing priorities face off in Lancashire as Jurgen Klopp’s high-flying Liverpool travel to Burnley – who are currently engrossed in a relegation battle. The Reds are sure to be full of confidence following their dramatic Derby Day win over Everton last time out whilst the Clarets, have lost their last two Premier League fixtures. Back to back defeats at the hands of Newcastle and Crystal Palace have exacerbated Burnley’s relegation problems and they now sit 19th in the table. Winless in their last 7 games in all competitions, Sean Dyche will be hoping he can inspire his troops over the coming months. Liverpool are still very much in the title race – sitting 2 points behind Manchester City with a third of the season played. The manner of their 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday is sure to revitalise the reds, who will be needing to stretch their squad to the full with the hectic Christmas period looming large. Turf Moor is a very difficult place to go and Burnley are fighting for their lives but Liverpool look to have a new found resilience under Jurgen Klopp this season and look well set to clinch all three points as their title charge takes hold as the fixture list moves into December.
Betting tip: Liverpool to win the match and both teams to score ($3.1) – BET NOW
Liverpool to win 3-1
5:45am Everton vs Newcastle United – Goodison Park
Newcastle United ($7)
In-form Everton will be looking to bounce back from their heart breaking defeat at the hands of Liverpool as they welcome Newcastle to Goodison Park. The Toon saw their unbeaten streak come to an abrupt end at the hands of West Ham last time out and they too will be eager to bounce back here but will be fully aware of the qualities the Toffees possess. Despite their defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, Everton are enjoying a good run of form in the Premier League and look to be in European football contention. Marco Silva looks to be impacting his ideals on his players and the Toffees currently sit 6th in the table – with 22 points from their opening 14 games played. Rafa Benitez has seen his charges improve in recent weeks and he will be hoping last Saturday’s defeat at the hands of West Ham is merely a blip. Such is the close proximity of the relegation landscape that one defeat has pushed the Toon back into drop zone trouble as they now sit 15th in the table – 3 points above trouble. Both sets of players will fancy their chances here and it should be a real spectacle between two very different teams and Everton should get the job done in front of their passionate home support.
Betting tip: Everton to win the match and both teams to score ($3.25) – BET NOW
Everton to win 3-1
5:45am Fulham vs Leicester City – Craven Cottage
Leicester City ($2.5)
It promises to be an emotional afternoon at Craven Cottage as Fulham welcome Leicester City to West London with Claudio Ranieri set to go up against his former club. The adoration the Italian has received in the city of Leicester for masterminding their title glory in the 2015-16 season will never be forgotten in the East Midlands and it promises to be a real spectacle on the banks of the River Thames. Fulham sit bottom of the Premier League table and the Cottagers are level on points with the teams above them so should fancy their chances of pulling away from the dreaded drop. Defeat at the hands of local rivals Chelsea last time out was expected and they will be hoping to get back on track in front of their home faithful here. The Foxes have climbed to 8th in the table following their 2-0 win over Watford last time out and they look to be generating some form (unbeaten in their last 5 games). They will be pitting their wits against former manager Claudio Ranieri and Claude Puel will be keen to see his men focus on the task at hand. The narrative of Ranieri facing his former club is likely to have an advantageous effect on the game and with both sides possessing plenty of attacking options – a score draw looks to be on the cards.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.75) – BET NOW
5:45am Wolves vs Chelsea – Molineux
Chelsea will be looking to keep their title charge in tact as they travel to the West Midlands to take on a Wolves side that are in danger of slipping into relegation trouble. Without a win in their last 6 matches, the newly promoted side are in danger of undoing all their good work at the start of the campaign whilst Chelsea need to keep winning with the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal breathing down their neck. Winless in their last 6 Premier League matches, the problems appear to be mounting up for Wolves currently. Defeats at the hands of relegation strugglers Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town have checked their progress and they have slipped to 12th in the table. Maurizio Sarri’s blues bounced back in style last week beating Fulham 2-0 to restore West London pride and stay in Premier League title contention. Chelsea still sit in 3rd place in the table – but their gap of 7 points to Manchester City will be concerning with a clash against the Sky Blues on the horizon next weekend. Wolves need to start picking up points quickly but Chelsea are a really tough opponent and should get three more points in their title pursuit on Wednesday evening.
Betting tip: Chelsea to win the match to nil ($2.85) – BET NOW
Chelsea to win 2-0
6:00am Manchester United vs Arsenal – Old Trafford
Manchester United ($2.5)
Arsenal will be looking to keep their strong recent form going as they travel to Old Trafford for what has the makings of a mid-week hum-dinger in Salford. Much has been made of United’s struggles in recent weeks and with the Red Devils 16 points off leaders Manchester City, serious questions are being asked of Jose Mourinho and his side. Following their 2-2 draw with Southampton last time out, Manchester United find themselves 7th in the Premier League table. 22 points from 14 games played isn’t the type of return Jose Mourinho and his men were looking for and improvements need to be made quickly. Following their North London derby triumph over local rivals Spurs, Arsenal find themselves 4th in the Premier League table and very much in top 4 contention. The manner of their 4-2 win over Tottenham has given all connected with the club real cause for optimism and in Unai Emery they look to have a manager capable of bringing the glory days back to the Emirates. Both sides will be bang up for what looks to be the biggest game of the round and it could well end up honours even between two very strong sides.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.4) – BET NOW
6:00am Tottenham vs Southampton – Wembley Stadium
Tottenham will be eager to bounce back from their disappointing showing at Arsenal last time out as they welcome Southampton to Wembley – who have sacked Mark Hughes as they look to navigate a route away from the relegation zone. Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to see his charges bounce back against his former side in what should be an entertaining clash. Tottenham’s 6 match unbeaten streak came to an abrupt end at the hands of Arsenal last time out and they will be looking to get back to winning ways here. Spurs sit 5th in the table, level on points with Arsenal in 4th as the push for Champions League football next season looks to be going down to the wire. Despite a gritty 2-2 draw with Manchester United last time out, Southampton decided to sack Mark Hughes as they strive for Premier League safety. They sit 18th in the Premier League table with only 1 win all season and with only 9 points from 14 games played, they look to have a real survival scrap on their hands. Despite Southampton’s managerial change, Tottenham have been good form so far this season and need to keep winning to stay in touch with the leaders at the top of the league and should get a comfortable home win under their belts here.
