The halfway point of the season is upon us and there is no sign of a change at the top as Manchester City continued their incredible winning streak with a resounding 4-1 win over Tottenham that has struck fear into the chasing pack. The Blues are 11 points clear of Manchester United who won at West Brom whilst Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all kept pace.
Swansea look doomed after yet another defeat – this time at the hands of a resurgent Everton whilst David Moyes picked up another 3 points for West Ham, at the expense of Stoke who seem to be at the end of their tether with Mark Hughes.
Here are our picks for the nineteenth round of fixtures in the Premier League: BET NOW
06:45 Arsenal vs Liverpool
Two of the Premier League’s biggest sides meet on Friday evening in a festive football extravaganza at the Emirates Stadium. Liverpool and Arsenal have lacked consistency this season and sit 4th and 5th respectively in the Premier League table with a place in the top 4 seemingly at the top of the agenda for both sides in terms of their long term goals for the season. The Gunners picked up their first win in the Premier League in the month of December last time out with a gritty 1-0 win over struggling Newcastle. Arsene Wenger’s side sit 5th in the table, 8 points behind Manchester United in second and a staggering 19 behind Manchester City at the top. The reds have been banging in the goals of late and currently find themselves in 4th place in the table – one point above Friday’s opponents. Their away form in recent weeks has been sensational –they have scored 16 goals in their last 4 away games, blowing away West Ham, Stoke, Brighton & Bournemouth.
Liverpool have been in great form on the road but Arsenal will attack with pace and guile in what should be an open game.
Betting tip: The match to end as a draw and both teams to score ($4.2) BET NOW
22:30 Everton vs Chelsea
Antonio Conte’s Blues travel to Merseyside to take on an Everton side, galvanised following the arrival of Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park. Everton are on a 6 match unbeaten run in all competitions and have surged up the table whilst Conte’s Chelsea have won 8 of their last 10 Premier League games but remain 14 points behind Manchester City. The Toffees have been in dreamland since Sam Allardyce arrived at the club. Wins over West Ham, Huddersfield and Newcastle have propelled them to 10th in the table with 17 games played. Sam Allardyce spoke of his disbelief at his team’s defending before he arrived at the club – something he has instantly fixed with Everton only conceding 2 goals under Allardyce so far. Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have picked up an impressive 25 points from a possible 30 in their last 10 Premier League games but have perhaps lacked the substance and style of last season. The Blues sit 3rd, 3 points behind Manchester United in second but 5 clear of Arsenal in 5th place. Everton’s form has been excellent but they may be prioritising other games in what looks to be a busy festive schedule for them.
Betting tip: Chelsea to win the game to nil ($2.65) BET NOW
Chelsea to win 1-0
02:00 Brighton vs Watford
Two teams struggling for form meet at the AMEX in what promises to be an entertaining encounter between two evenly matched sides. Both teams have safely navigated the first half of the season and sit in mid table but they need to start picking up points quickly to avoid being dragged into a relegation dogfight in the New Year. The Seagulls have performed very well in their inaugural Premier League season and Chris Hughton will be delighted with their current 13th place standing. Without a win in 7, its goals they have found hard to come by – only scoring 14 in their 18 matches played so far this term. Marco Silva’s Watford are in danger of the wheels falling off after a terrific start to the season. The Hornets sit 9th, well clear of the relegation picture currently but are winless in their last 5 matches. Their indiscipline has cost them in recent weeks – they have received 3 red cards in their last 3 matches and now have star striker Troy Deeney suspended for the next 4 matches.
Brighton are very resilient at home but could be beginning to burn out over the festive period whilst Marco Silva will be demanding more from his Watford side.
Betting tip: Watford to win the game and under 2.5 goals to be scored ($4.75) BET NOW
Watford to win 2-0
02:00 Manchester City vs Bournemouth
Manchester City ($1.1)
Manchester City continued their incredible form with a sparkling 4-1 win over Tottenham last time out to extend their remarkable winning run to 16 Premier League games in a row. Bournemouth are the next lamb to the slaughter it seems but Eddie Howe’s men play very good football and will be relishing the opportunity to test themselves against one of the strongest outfits in world football. The Blues have been in devastating form of late – their crucial wins over Tottenham and Manchester United have left them 11 points clear of United at the top of the league and seem to be too strong for most opponents currently. With 54 goals scored and only 12 conceded, their staggering +42 goal difference is setting them apart at the top of the table with Pep Guardiola deservedly getting all the plaudits. The Cherries are enduring a difficult period and now sit 16th – one point outside of the bottom 3 following a 4-0 thumping at the hands of Liverpool. Their minimal goal threat (only 15 goals scored in 18 games) is the fundamental issue for Eddie Howe’s men at present.
Bournemouth won’t hide at the Etihad and will create chances but City look to strong for most at present.
Betting tip: Manchester City to win the game with a -2.5 Asian Handicap ($2.05) BET NOW
Manchester City to win 3-0
02:00 Stoke City vs West Bromwich Albion
Stoke City ($2.3)
West Bromwich Albion ($3.58)
Two struggling sides clash at the Bet 365 stadium on Saturday as Alan Pardew takes his West Brom side to Mark Hughes’s beleaguered Stoke. The Potters were thumped 3-0 by West Ham last time out and the pressure is really beginning to tell on Mark Hughes. West Brom were spirited in defeat against Manchester United but now sit in the bottom 3 and are staring down the barrel currently. No team in the Premier League has conceded more goals than Stoke City – 39 goals conceded from 18 Premier League games. Mark Hughes’s men have only won one of their last 8 league games – including defeats in their last 3 matches at the hands of Tottenham, Burnley and West Ham. The Baggies are enduring a horrible run and are without a Premier League win since August. Alan Pardew has been tasked with finding a solution to their problems but has yet to register a win as manager. They currently reside in 19th place in the league table – 2 points from safety and look to have it all to do to steer clear of the relegation picture.
Both sides need a win and the enormity of the game could make it a close encounter between two well matched teams.
Betting tip: Match to end as a draw and both teams to score ($3.1) BET NOW
02:00 Southampton vs Huddersfield Town
Huddersfield Town ($7.2)
Two teams locked in mid-table meet at St Mary’s with both sides focusing on avoiding being dragged into a relegation battle as the New Year looms. Huddersfield picked up a crucial win at Watford last time out and continue to establish themselves as a real threat in the Premier League whilst Southampton have had a tough run of fixtures and need to see results and performances improve over the congested festive period. The Saints have had an inconsistent campaign and subsequently find themselves in 12th place in the Premier League – only 3 points above the bottom 3. Maurcio Pellegrino’s men have only registered 17 goals this season which is a real concern and although string showings against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City only yielded 1 point – the Saints look to have their defence in order currently. The Terriers picked up a famous 4-1 win over Watford last time out to boost their relegation fears and pull them 6 points clear of safety. David Wagner has engineered a strong playing style, built from the back, which most teams have struggled to deal with this season.
Huddersfield will be full of confidence going into the match fresh off the back of a win at Watford but the Saints could have too much fire power.
Betting tip: Southampton to win the match and Charlie Austin to score anytime ($3.53) BET NOW
Southampton to win 2-0
02:00 Swansea City vs Crystal Palace
Swansea City ($3.1)
Crystal Palace ($2.63)
The Liberty Stadium plays host to a classic relegation six-pointer on Saturday as Swansea face Crystal Palace with both sides desperate to pull away from the relegation picture. The Swans are currently propping up the table following a run of 1 win in their last 10 games in all competitions. Roy Hodgson has engineered a path for Crystal Palace up the table towards safety – however the job is far from done yet. The Swans are rooted to the bottom of the table and need inspiration in their fight against the drop. Paul Clement’s side have only managed 10 goals from their opening 18 games and look to be sliding towards the Championship and with only 12 points registered from 18 games, they currently sit 3 points from safety. The Eagles are soaring up the Premier League table and their disastrous opening 8 games are being quickly forgotten about. They now sit 14th – 2 points clear of the drop zone and Roy Hodgson’s men are now unbeaten in their last 7 Premier League matches.
Crystal Palace have been in fine form and should keep their run going against a struggling Swansea side.
Betting tip: Crystal Palace to win the match and both teams to score ($6) BET NOW
Crystal Palace to win 2-1
02:00 West Ham United vs Newcastle United
West Ham United ($2.17)
Newcastle United ($3.88)
Two teams in very contrasting form meet at the London Olympic Stadium with Premier League safety top of the agenda. David Moyes has transformed West Ham in recent weeks and pulled the Hammers temporarily at least, away from danger. Newcastle meanwhile have slipped into the bottom 3 following back to back defeats to Everton and Arsenal. The appointment of David Moyes was met with derision from the Hammers faithful but it continues to pay dividends with the Hammers unbeaten in their last 3 matches. Wins over Chelsea and Stoke were punctuated by a 0-0 draw with Arsenal – performances in which West Ham impressed and now sit 15th in the table. The Toon had a fantastic start to the season but an alarming slump in form has left them in the bottom 3. They are in the midst of a 9 match sequence without a win – something Rafa Benitez needs to rectify quickly. Newcastle are 18th in the table with 15 points from their opening 18 games but only sit one point from safety.
Newcastle are struggling and West Ham could well pile the pressure on Rafa Benitez’s men here.
Betting tip: West Ham United to win the match to nil ($2.56) BET NOW
West Ham United to win 2-0
04:30 Burnley vs Tottenham
Tottenham travel to Burnley looking to bounce back from their 4-1 thumping at Manchester City against the Premier League’s surprise package, Burnley. The Clarets go into the game one point and one place above Spurs and will be looking to press home their advantage in the race for Europa League football next season with a vocal home crowd behind them. The Clarets have been one of the stories of the Premier League this season and Sean Dyche’s men find themselves flying high in 6th place in the table. They are in the midst of a 3 match unbeaten streak and have 32 points to their name with 18 games played and have the joint meanest defence in the league (12 goals conceded). Spurs’s chastening 4-1 defeat to Manchester City last time out left them 21 points off the pace in the title race with only 18 games played. Mauricio Pochettino’s men currently sit in 7th place in the table – with 31 points from their 18 games played.
Burnley look sure to take the game to Tottenham but that could help Spurs who like to get the ball down and play.
Betting tip: Tottenham to win the match and over 2.5 goals in the game ($2.6) BET NOW
Tottenham to win 2-1
06:45 Leicester City vs Manchester United
Leicester City ($4.75)
Manchester United ($1.8)
Jose Mourinho’s men travel to Leicester looking to keep pace in the Premier League title race. United are 11 points off the pace currently but will be looking to apply pressure by all means possible. Leicester have pulled away from relegation trouble under the stewardship of Cladue Puel but the manner of their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace will be concerning for the Frenchman. The Foxes have pulled well clear of the relegation picture in recent weeks and find themselves in 8th place in the Premier League table with 26 points. Their defeat to Crystal Palace last time out was their first in 6 matches and Claude Puel will be hoping it’s just a blip. Manchester United bounced back from their derby day defeat with back to back wins over Bournemouth and West Brom to stay in touch in the Premier League title race. The Red Devils are second in the table with 41 points from their opening 18 games – 11 points behind Manchester City. Leicester will look to take the game to United but Jose Mourinho’s men are in resilient form and should have too much quality for the Foxes.
