The 2017-18 EPL season got off to a spectacular start with a staggering 31 goals being scored on the opening weekend. Last weekend also through up some sensational results, with defending champions Chelsea losing at home to Burnley merely highlighting the fact that in the EPL – anyone can beat anyone!
As we reach the second round of fixtures we have some mouth-watering ties that could have a big impact on teams – particularly before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
We’ll provide a tip for each EPL match taking place in round 2 plus a match accumulator bet which is where the big money can be won.
Here are our picks for the second round of fixtures in the Premier League:
21:30 Swansea City vs Manchester United – Liberty Stadium
Manchester United ($1.36)
Manchester United are the early league leaders after an impressive demolition of West Ham last Sunday and have rightfully been deserving all the plaudits they’ve been getting. With Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in midfield, the Red Devils look to have one of the strongest central midfield pairings not only in the EPL but in world football. Romelu Lukaku also scored twice on his league debut to give real optimism to the United fans that this is their year.
Swansea looked resilient at Southampton without posing any real goal threat and may adopt a similar approach here. This game could come too early for them with Gylfi Sigurdsson seemingly leaving the club and potential new arrivals Wilfred Bony and Nacer Chadli yet to arrive – the Swans don’t look fully settled yet this term.
United have all the momentum and will be hoping they can keep that up here.
Betting tip: Manchester United to win and keep a clean sheet ($2.49) BET NOW
Man United to win 2-0
00:00 Bournemouth vs Watford – Vitality Stadium
Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth will be desperate to get points on the board following a disappointing opening day performance at West Brom. The Cherries looked a little toothless at the Hawthorns and will be hoping a fully-fit Jermain Defoe can feature here and cause some damage against a Watford side who looked great going forward last week but a little fragile at the back.
The Hornets will be delighted with their home point against Liverpool and have brought in Andre Gray for a club record transfer fee from Burnley to bolster their forward line and he possesses some much needed pace to their ranks.
This one looks evenly matched on paper and with both teams needing to secure points, it promises to be an entertaining encounter.
Betting tip: Both teams to score and the match to finish as a draw ($5.5) BET NOW
00:00 Burnley vs West Brom – Turf Moor
West Brom ($3)
Burnley pulled off the one of the all-time opening day shocks last week beating by beating Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge 3-2. Sean Dyche’s men were helped by the sending off of Gary Cahill but were fully deserving of their 3-0 lead at half time and look to be very well organised.
Tony Pulis will be ecstatic that his men got off to a winning start last week at home to Bournemouth and he’ll be hoping to kick on again here. New recruits Ahmed Hegazi and Jay Rodriguez impressed last week and the Baggies have also brought in Premier League stalwart Gareth Barry to provide his valuable experience.
This one should be cagey but both teams should be buoyed from their opening day wins.
Betting tip: Burnley to win with a 1 goal winning margin as a double ($5.5) BET NOW
Burnley to win 2-1
00:00 Leicester City vs Brighton and Hove Albion – King Power Stadium
Leicester City ($1.75)
Despite a heart-breaking defeat last Friday evening, Leicester should be full of confidence coming into this one. They troubled Arsenal for long periods at the Emirates and Jamie Vardy is looking back to his very best. They will be desperate to rectify their defensive issues here and get points on the board.
Brighton performed admirably against Manchester City last Saturday without providing any real goal threat but Chris Hughton will definitely have seen plenty from his team to suggest they can compete at the highest level. Their lack of pace could be an issue but they still have until the end of August to recruit in forward areas.
Leicester should have too much for Brighton here but will need to score early otherwise it could be a frustrating afternoon for the foxes.
Betting tip: Jamie Vardy to score anytime and Leicester to win the match ($4.15) BET NOW
Leicester to win 2-0
00:00 Liverpool vs Crystal Palace – Anfield
Crystal Palace ($9)
The Reds will be disappointed to have dropped 2 valuable points at Watford in the dying stages last week and will be hoping they can build on their good result in the Champions League in midweek at Hoffenheim. Mohamed Salah impressed on his reds debut but their defensive frailties were exposed once more with Watford managing to score 3 goals against them.
Palace also look to have plenty of problems of their own – Frank de Boer’s men were comfortably beaten at home against newly promoted Huddersfield. The Eagles will be desperate to their season going as soon as possible but this looks a tough ask.
Liverpool should bounce back from last week’s disappointment here and win comfortably.
Betting tip: Liverpool to be winning at half time and at full time ($2.05) BET NOW
Liverpool to win 4-1
00:00 Southampton vs West Ham – St Mary’s Stadium
West Ham ($5)
The Saints will feel a little unlucky to not have 3 points on the board at this stage after a frustrating opening day stalemate with Swansea last week. They will be looking to benefit from home advantage once again in what looks like an evenly matched encounter.
It’s quite hard to gauge where West Ham are at as their defeat last week at Manchester United was more due to the home team’s excellence rather than errors from the Hammers. Conceding 4 goals will bring cause for concern to Slavan Bilic though and he’ll be hoping to rectify his leaky defence as quickly as possible.
This game looks tight and it could be settled by the odd goal.
Betting tip: Southampton to win and under 2.5 goals in the match as a double pays ($3.55) BET NOW
Southampton to win 1-0
02:30 Stoke City vs Arsenal – Bet365 Stadium
Stoke City ($4.5)
Stoke will be looking to call upon their fabled home advantage as they welcome an Arsenal side that will need to sure things up at the back to get anything here. Mark Hughes’s men thrive on challenging the big boys at home and are sure to be bang up for this one. The Potters came away empty handed from Goodison Park last week and will need to get their season up and running as soon as possible.
Arsenal should be buoyed by their late winner at home last week and if they can replicate their fluent attacking play against a Stoke defence that will be trying to stifle them at every opportunity.
Arsenal will know they could have enough afternoon in store and will need to be at their best to keep Stoke at bay.
Betting tip: Arsenal to win and both teams to score ($3.5) BET NOW
Arsenal to win 2-1
22:30 Huddersfield Town vs Newcastle United – Kirklees Stadium
Two of the newly promoted sides meet in an intriguing clash on Sunday and they both head into this match in very different veins of form.
The Terriers began life in the Premier League last week with a remarkable 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. They’ll be hoping to carry on their fairytale run in front of their own fans at the Kirklees Stadium.
Newcastle frustrated Tottenham for long periods last week but lacked a cutting edge. Jonjo Shelvey’s reckless sending off cost the Magpies last week and he’ll be absent for the next 3 games. Rafa Benitez’s continual frustration with the board and their lack of spending support is at breaking point and he’ll need a big performance from his charges here.
With so much at stake this is likely to be a tight affair and could well end up level.
Betting tip: The match to be a draw at half time and at full time – ($5) BET NOW
01:00 Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea – Wembley Stadium
Spurs’s first Premier League match at Wembley could not come any bigger as local rivals and defending champions Chelsea, visit the home of football in one of the biggest games of the EPL season. Tottenham were one of the very few teams to get the better of Chelsea last season in the league and the looked good once more away at Newcastle last weekend. They’ll be keen to pounce on the Blues who looking to be wobbling on and off the pitch.
Chelsea’s defeat at home to Burnley has given the rest of the league a huge surge of optimism that Antonio Conte’s men are beatable this season. The Diego Costa saga continues, Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas miss out here through suspension and Conte himself is the bookies favourite to be the first PL manager to get the sack.
It’s a huge match which could have huge ramifications for the rest of the season and both teams will know that they cannot afford to lose.
Betting tip: Over 2.5 goals to be scored in the game ($3) BET NOW
05:00 Manchester City vs Everton – Ethiad Stadium
Manchester City ($1.3)
Pep Guardiola will surely be delighted with the start his team made at Brighton last week. Although they still lacked a cutting edge and there are sure to be bigger tests to come – the defensive stability that was lacking last season was evident at the Amex.
Everton had a dream start to the season with Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane impressing on debut and Wayne Rooney stealing the headlines on his return to Goodison Park. The Toffees took 4 points of City last season and will be keen to repeat the feat again this term.
Everton’s summer recruitment looks strong and they will certainly pose a threat but if City play anywhere near the best – they should have too much for the men from Merseyside.
Betting tip: Manchester City to win and Gabriel Jesus to score anytime ($2.60) BET NOW
