The Premier League returns following the FA Cup sabbatical and attention turns to the title race once more. With leaders Manchester City battling for the Carabao Cup on Sunday against Chelsea, Liverpool have the chance to regain their lead at the top of the tree whilst Tottenham will also be hoping to keep up their title charge as they take on Burnley.
Meanwhile, matters at the bottom of the table come into sharp focus as Newcastle host Huddersfield and Fulham will be hoping to reignite their survival bid at West Ham.
Here are our picks for the twenty-seventh round of fixtures in the Premier League:
Cardiff City vs Watford – Cardiff City Stadium
Cardiff City ($3.2)
Cardiff will be hoping to build on their impressive recent form as they welcome Watford to the South Wales capital. The bluebirds have won their last 2 – beating Bournemouth and Southampton and have fought hard all season, particularly at home. Watford sit 8th in the table and Javi Gracia’s men have been in good form of late, epitomised by their win over Everton last time out and progress to the last 8 of the FA Cup. Cardiff are a tough side to break down at home and Watford are notoriously difficult to beat, meaning a draw could well be on the cards here.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.6) – BET NOW
West Ham United vs Fulham – London Olympic Stadium
West Ham United ($1.85)
A classic London derby is in prospect on Friday night as Fulham travel east to take on West Ham United. The Hammers have been inconsistent once again this season and Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping his side can kick into gear soon as they are winless in their last 5. The Hammers are 10th in the Premier League table and they will be eager to kick on during the second half of the season. Fulham are very much in the relegation mix and currently find themselves 8 points from safety following their thumpiung by Manchester United last time out. With only 17 points and 4 wins to their name all season, the Cottagers will be eager to begin their survival push sooner rather than later. Fulham will put up a fight here but West Ham are a strong outfit, particularly at home.
Betting tip: West Ham to win the match and both teams to score ($2.75) – BET NOW
West Ham United to win 3-1
Burnley vs Tottenham – Turf Moor
Tottenham’s title bid goes under the microscope as they travel to in-form Burnley in what promises to be a real battle in Lancashire. The Clarets have clambered away from relegation trouble in recent weeks and despite only being three points clear of the relegation zone, look to be a side in fine form, having won 3-1 at Brighton last time out. Tottenham have dealt with the loss of Harry Kane with aplomb in recent weeks, beating Leicester City at Wembley before thrashing Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Burnley will certainly test Spurs but Tottenham shouldn’t have too many issues in coming through this test.
Betting tip: Tottenham to win the match ($1.73) – BET NOW
Tottenham to win 2-0
Bournemouth vs Wolves – Vitality Stadium
Two sides immersed in mid-table face off on Saturday with Wolves travelling to Bournemouth. The Cherries have enjoyed an impressive campaign under the stewardship of Eddie Howe and they find themselves in 11th place in the Premier League table. Inconsistency has blighted their season but they continue to impress – particularly at home. Wolves have eclipsed that however with their current standing of 7th and an impressive run to the FA Cup last 8 to boot. Wanderers are unbeaten in their last 7 games in all competitions and showed resolves last time out in the league to clinch a point against Newcastle. Goals look guaranteed between these two sides who also look very well matched on paper.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.25) – BET NOW
Newcastle United vs Huddersfield Town- St James’s Park
Newcastle United ($1.9)
Huddersfield Town ($5.25)
The battle for survival is top of the agenda in the North East as Newcastle host Huddersfield Town. Newcastle are 16th in the table – only a point above the bottom three and despite flashes of brilliance – they can’t seem to pull away from relegation trouble indefinitely. They will be targeting all three points here though against a Huddersfield Town side that looks doomed. The Terriers continue to struggle – despite David Wagner being replaced by Jan Siewert in an attempt to pull away from the drop. They sit rock bottom of the Premier League table and with a 14 point gap between themselves and safety – they look consigned to the Championship next season. This could be attritional but Newcastle should get the points they need in front of their passionate home fans.
Betting tip: Newcastle United to win the match ($1.9) – BET NOW
Newcastle United to win 2-0
Leicester City vs Crystal Palace – King Power Stadium
Leicester City ($2.3)
Crystal Palace ($3.7)
Yet another mid-table battle takes place on Saturday evening as Leicester City host Crystal Palace. Leicester have endured an inconsistent season – which is reflected by their league standing of 12th. Despite having a squad packed with quality, the Foxes look a team under pressure and Claude Puel will be craving a win at home here. Crystal Palace have found form of late and have climbed to 13th in the table but still reside only 3 points clear of the relegation zone. With a FA Cup run in the offing too, this could be an exciting season for Roy Hodgson’s men. There is very little to split these sides and a score draw looks very much on the cards.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.15) – BET NOW
Arsenal vs Southampton – Emirates Stadium
Arsenal’s bid for a top 4 finish comes back into focus as they host Southampton at the Emirates. They are 5th in the table, one point behind Manchester United and can put pressure on the Red Devils here. With Europa League qualification assured in midweek, Unai Emery will be hoping to cap a successful week for the Gunners. Ralph Hasenhüttl has enjoyed an instant impact with Southampton but their defeat to Cardiff last week was a reality check that has left them in the relegation zone. Games such as these won’t be ones that the Saints are targeting as they seek survival and Arsenal should have no problems clinching a home win here.
Betting tip: Arsenal to win the match and both teams to score ($3.25) – BET NOW
Arsenal to win 3-1
Manchester United vs Liverpool – Old Trafford
Manchester United ($3.1)
The biggest Premier League game of the weekend completes the programme as title chasing Liverpool travel to in-form old foes, Manchester United. The Reds have rocketed the table in recent weeks and are now in 4th place and will be hoping to stay there come the end of the season. Liverpool will be looking to get back to winning ways having only won 1 of their last 4 games in all competitions. The reds have slipped to second in the Premier League table but with this being their game in hand on Manchester City above them, it is huge game in the context of their season. This game is always one of the biggest of the Premier League season and it could well end up honours even in Salford this Sunday.
