Manchester City stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to 16 points following their incredible 3-0 win over Arsenal on Thursday as Pep Guardiola’s men steam roll towards the title. Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United all picked up points in their pursuit of Champions League football too leaving the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal languishing.
The relegation scrap is hotting up too with West Brom seemingly doomed, no fewer than 9 teams are still battling it out to steer clear of the two remaining relegation spots.
Here are our picks for the twenty-ninth round of fixtures in the Premier League:
23:30 Burnley vs Everton – Turf Moor
Sam Allardyce will be desperate for a reaction from his charges as they travel across the North West to face Burnley in an intriguing encounter. The Toffees were humbled 1-0 by Watford last week and look to be finishing the season with a whimper. Burnley have been in fantastic form all season under Sean Dyche and despite results tailing off a little in recent weeks, the Clarets look well set for another season of Premier League football. The Clarets have enjoyed an amazing first half of the season and sit 7th with only 10 games remaining and they have a remarkable 37 points to their name. They are however, without a win in their last 12 matches in all competitions and need to address the slide. Everton have shown glimpses under Sam Allardyce but heavy defeats on the road of late have checked their progress somewhat. Sam Allardyce hasn’t been able to continue the boost he initially gave the club when he arrived late in 2017. The Toffees are out of all cup competitions and sit 9th in the table with 11 games still to play – they are only 8 points above the relegation places however and will be feeling the need to get points on the board. This should be a good game, between two well matched teams who will be looking for a strong finish to the season.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.85) – BET NOW
02:00 Leicester City vs Bournemouth – King Power Stadium
Leicester City ($1.88)
Two teams locked in the middle of the table meet on Saturday afternoon with crucial points at stake for both sides, whom aren’t mathematically safe as yet. Claude Puel is going through a sticky period with the Foxes, who despite being 8th in the Premier League table, haven’t won in their last 4 Premier League games. However, they are very much in with an outside chance of playing European football next season and with FA Cup progress secured, they can put all of their attention into improving their Premier League position. The Cherries had been in fine form in the Premier League and were unbeaten in their previous 7 league matches before their 4-1 chastening at Huddersfield back in February but they came from behind to draw with Newcastle last time out. Eddie Howe’s men sit 10th in the table with 32 points and Premier League safety looks a very achievable goal currently. This could be another close game between two sides that look to play on the front foot but Leicester should have a little too much fire power.
Betting tip: Leicester to win the match and both teams to score ($3.65) – BET NOW
Leicester to win 2-1
02:00 Southampton vs Stoke City – St Mary’s Stadium
Stoke City ($5.5)
Two teams immersed in the relegation picture face off on Saturday afternoon as Premier League points become the priority. Few would have expected either side to be in the relegation scrap but with 10 games to go, they both need points and need them quickly. The Saints find themselves in the relegation zone and needed a last gasp equaliser to salvage a point at Burnley last time out. 27 points from 28 games isn’t the ideal return for a team of the Saints’ quality but Mauricio Pellegrino will be looking to secure Premier League safety as a priority – currently in 18th position, one point from safety. Paul Lambert is yet to have the comprehensive approach Stoke fans may well have been hoping for and the Potters are very much in the relegation picture with only 11 games still to play. Paul Lambert hasn’t hit the ground running in Staffordshire and the Scot looks to have his work cut out in order to propel Stoke away from the relegation picture. The Potters currently sit 19th in the table, with 26 points from 28 games and are currently 2 points adrift in the bottom three. This could be a cagey one between two sides bereft of confidence.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($5) – BET NOW
02:00 Swansea City vs West Ham United – Liberty Stadium
Swansea City ($2.6)
West Ham United ($3.1)
The congestion at the bottom of the league has resulted in many games being relegation six-pointers and this looks set to be another. Both sides have responded to changes of management this season and look to be edging towards safety at the correct time. Carlos Carvahal has had an instant impact at the Liberty Stadium – only losing two of his 13 games in charge so far in all competitions. With his side still in the FA Cup, he has overseen a transformation at the club, epitomised by their current league standing of 16th – although they are only one point above the drop zone. David Moyes has overseen a real transformation at the London Olympic Stadium and they have risen to 13th in the table but such is the congestion at the bottom of the table, they are only 3 points above the relegation places. This looks set to be real relegation hum-dinger between two attractive sides and they could well cancel each other out.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.7) – BET NOW
02:00 Tottenham Hotspur vs Huddersfield Town – Wembley Stadium
Huddersfield Town ($23)
Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs face a fixture congestion problem as they continue to fight on three fronts. They are 20 points off the pace in the Premier League which has forced their hand to concentrate on Champions League qualification whilst they remain in the FA Cup and Champions League. Tottenham sit in 4th place in the Premier League, just inside the Champions League places with 10 league games still to play. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been in sensational form in the Champions League this season having picked up a 2-2 draw in Juventus and they thumped Rochdale 6-1 in the FA Cup. The Terriers meanwhile, had slipped into the relegation zone in the Premier League before their 4-1 thumping of Bournemouth and 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion last time out and they are currently 14th in the standings, with 30 points to their name. David Wagner’s men have only won twice in the Premier League in 2018 and following their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, Premier League safety is now the priority. Huddersfield won’t be targeting games like this for Premier League safety and Spurs should pick up a comfortable win here.
Betting tip: Tottenham to win the match with a -2.5 Asian Handicap ($2.5) – BET NOW
Tottenham to win 3-0
02:00 Watford vs West Bromwich Albion – Vicarage Road
West Bromwich Albion ($4)
Javi Gracia is looking keep his strong start to life in English football going as West Bromwich Albion visit North London. Both sides are in need of points with the relegation picture changing on a weekly basis but West Brom looked doomed if they don’t win here. Marco Silva had a fantastic start to the season with the Hornets but a barren run over the festive period ultimately cost the Portuguese manager his job and Javi Gracia has been brought in to steady the ship – which his 1-0 win over Everton last time out will contribute towards with the Hornets now 10th in the standings. Languishing at the bottom of the table and 7 points from safety, Alan Pardew will have to pull off the great escape to ensure the Baggies are a Premier League team next season. West Brom have only won 3 Premier League games this season and have collected 20 points from their opening 28 games – a tally that needs drastic improvement and they are now out of the FA Cup too. West Brom look too far gone and Watford could strike a decisive blow here.
Betting tip: Watford to win the match ($2.15) – BET NOW
Watford to win 2-0
04:30 Liverpool vs Newcastle United – Anfield
Newcastle United ($16)
Rafa Benitez travels to his former club in what promises to be a fascinating encounter between two contrasting styles of play. Liverpool are one of the most exciting teams in Europe currently whilst Newcastle are known for their attritional but effective approach. The Reds have been in great form in recent weeks and look to have kicked on despite their dip in form back in January – epitomised by their impressive 5-0 win at Porto in the Champions League and 4-1 thumping of Newcastle last time out. Jurgen Klopp has guided his men to 3rd in the Premier League table, with 57 points from their opening 28 games and they have only lost three times in the league all season. The Toon have lacked consistency all season and as a result find themselves only 2 points above the relegation zone but are unbeaten in their last 2 league games. 29 points from 28 games isn’t the return Rafa Benitez would have hoped for at the start of the season but Premier League safety has become the absolute priority for Newcastle currently. Both sides need the points for very different reasons and Liverpool should get the job done with relative ease here.
Betting tip: Liverpool to win the match and both teams to score ($2.75) – BET NOW
Liverpool to win 3-1
00:30 Brighton vs Arsenal – Amex Stadium
In what has been a traumatic week for Arsenal, they will be pleased to be not playing against Manchester City as they travel to the south coast for a tricky looking tie against Brighton. The Gunners lost 3-0 at Wembley in the Carabao Cup Final before a 3-0 home defeat at the Emirates to pile the pressure on Arsene Wenger. Brighton have progressed to the last 8 of the cup and with the Premier League back on the agenda, Chris Hughton’s men will be looking to continue to defy the odds in the Premier League. They are 4 points above the relegation zone and they look well up for the scrap this term. Following their 4-1 draw win over Swansea last time out, the Seagulls have 31 points from their opening 28 games. The inconsistencies within Arsenal’s season have been alarming all campaign and as a result they have struggled to make an impact in any competition, with the Carabao Cup and Europa League the only exceptions. The Gunners remain 6th – 5 points off the top 4 (with Chelsea still to play this week) in the Premier League and have work to do to be playing Champions League football next term but they are always a threat. Arsenal are in horrid form and need a response, quickly against a strong Brighton team.
Betting tip: Arsenal to win the match and both teams to score ($3.75) – BET NOW
Arsenal to win 2-1
03:00 Manchester City vs Chelsea – Etihad Stadium
Manchester City ($1.67)
The first trophy of the season is in the bag for Manchester City who are 16 points clear of the chasing pack in the Premier League too. Chelsea look all but out of the race to defend their title but they will endeavor to make life difficult for the Champions elect. There looks to be no stopping City in the Premier League at the moment who currently sit 16 points clear as Pep Guardiola who finally broke trophy duck at Manchester City last Sunday. Their FA Cup defeat to Wigan has blown their quadruple hopes but they are still one of the top teams in the country and have a realistic chance of winning 3 trophies this season. The wheels are in danger of falling off for Chelsea this season – thumping’s at Watford and at home to Bournemouth have increased the scrutiny around the club and Antonio Conte looks to be scrapping to save his job – especially after their defeat to Manchester United last time out and the Blues sit 5th in the Premier League table with 53 points from their opening 28 games. This could be one of the showpiece games of the season and City should possess just a little too much quality and confidence for Chelsea here.
Betting tip: Manchester City to win the match and both teams to score ($3.2) – BET NOW
Manchester City to win 2-1
07:00 Crystal Palace vs Manchester United – Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace ($7)
Manchester United ($1.57)
As the only realistic threat to Manchester City this season, Manchester United look to be too far off to strike with 10 games to go and now need points to keep their Champions League hopes alive. They will be fully aware of the threats Palace pose, especially with home support behind them. Crystal Palace have been one of the form teams in the division – only losing four times in their last 17 Premier League matches and they have climbed to 17th in the table as a result. Such was their disastrous start to the campaign, that they still only sit above the relegation zone on goal difference and are very much in relegation contention. The Reds have been in great form in 2018, winning 8 of their 10 league matches so far – with their defeats to Tottenham & Newcastle the only blotches on their copy book this year. With 59 points from 28 games they sit 2nd in the table – 16 points behind leaders Manchester City with only 10 games to go. Palace need points in their relegation scrap but United have been in good form of late and should have too much quality.
