EPL Week 4 Expert Tips & Predictions

The panic buttons are being pressed across Manchester, with both City and United fumbling at the start of the season and they meet this weekend, in what should be an intriguing Manchester derby.

Elsewhere, things are going swimmingly for Liverpool, who have added Alexander Isak to their ranks in the summer, with anything other than a dominant title win surely not acceptable for the millions of fans associated with the club.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle will all be looking to keep pace at the top of the tree, while Tottenham need to bounce back from a home loss to Bournemouth last time out.

Promoted sides Sunderland, Leeds and Burnley all have points on the board but they know the hard work starts here, as the honeymoon period of being back in the Premier League begins to wear off.

Despite enjoying most of the running at Anfield last time out, Arsenal left Merseyside with nothing and are now playing catch up in the Premier League title race. They take on a Nottingham Forest side next, who were humbled by West Ham last week and who will be desperate to bounce back. Arsenal need to start turning their promise and strong performances into trophies and this will feel like a significant game for them, as they look to avoid any slip ups. Forest will push them, but Arsenal are a well-oiled machine, who should prevail in this one.

Leeds United ($4.10)

A loss in highly controversial circumstances at Chelsea last weekend punctuated Fulham’s decent start to the season and they will be looking to get back on track here against Leeds United. The Cottagers have historically been pretty strong at home under Marco Silva, and they will be hoping to continue that this term. Leeds’s opening day win over Everton feels a long time ago and they will be eager to get back on track in this one, which doesn’t feel like an easy assignment. Goals could be served up here, with Fulham most likely to come out on top.

Two sides that have started the season impressively meet here, as Bournemouth host Brighton. The Cherries picked up a superb win at Tottenham last time out and look to be trending in the right direction again this term, despite some significant summer losses. Brighton meanwhile dug deep to overcome Manchester City last time out and building on that famous win will be their priority here. Both of these sides are in good shape, and they may well end up settling for a draw.

Sunderland have surpassed expectation thus far this season and they will be eager to keep things ticking as they travel to Crystal Palace. The Eagles are a side going well this term, epitomised by their super 3-0 win at Aston Villa last time out and they are hoping to push on in both European and domestic competitions this term. Sunderland meanwhile are a side who have the capacity to challenge here at Selhurst Park, but Palace should have enough quality to prevail.

It has been a tough start to the season for Wolves and things don’t look to be getting much easier here, as they travel to Newcastle. Toon have seen Alexander Isak depart the club but they have reinvested the money in the playing staff and Eddie Howe will want to see his side kick on in pursuit of their first win of the campaign here. Wolves meanwhile are without a point this term and they know this will be a tough one in the North East. The mood has changed on Tyneside and Newcastle should return to winning ways here.

It has been a fabulous start to the season for Everton and David Moyes’s side will be looking to keep it going, as they take on Aston Villa. The Toffees have a 100% winning record at their new stadium, and they will be backed to the hilt in this one. Villa have endured a very tough start to the season, picking up a solitary point from their opening three games and Unai Emery will want a response here. The momentum is with Everton though and they could well pick up another three points in this one.

Two sides who don’t care too much for each other meet here, as West Ham host Tottenham. The Hammers bounced back impressively to beat Nottingham Forest last week, easing the pressure on Graham Potter and they will be chasing more of the same here. Tottenham meanwhile saw their bubble burst a touch under Thomas Frank, losing to Bournemouth and they will want to respond in this one. Spurs look set up to play on the break and they could cause some serious damage against West Ham in this one.

The West London derby between Brentford and Chelsea has delivered in recent years and it should do again this weekend. Keith Andrews is getting his feet under the door at Brentford, with 3 points from 3 games and this looks to be his toughest test yet. Chelsea meanwhile are unbeaten from their first 3 games but have benefitted from some controversial refereeing decisions in recent games. This feels as if it will be tight, but Chelsea should have enough quality to come out on top.

Champions Liverpool look simply too good for all in front of them this season and this should be another procession here in Lancashire. Burnley won’t be judged on matches like this at the end of the season, but they will try and make it tough for Liverpool. Arne Slot’s men don’t look like dropping a point this term and with infinite resources at their disposal and record breaking sums of money spent, an away win is the only way here.

Neither Manchester City or Manchester United will be looking forward to this derby at the Etihad and it feels as if all three results are in play. A failure to take chances continues to blight City, who have lose their last two and anything other than a win would see them in crisis already this term. Manchester United edged past Burnley but were incoherent for much of the encounter and are still searching for their best form. Calling this one is tough but Ruben Amorim seems to have the wood over Pep Guardiola and that may continue for now.
