EPL Week 4 Expert Tips & Predictions

A two week hiatus from Premier League football due to the international schedule has come to an end and the cut and thrust of domestic action comes to the fore once more. Manchester City and Liverpool are the only two sides with 100% winning records, following Arsenal’s home draw with fellow unbeaten side Brighton last time out. Down at the bottom, the problems are mounting for the likes of Everton and Southampton, the only two sides without a point to their name.

Southampton vs Manchester United – St Mary’s Stadium

Following their home thumping from Liverpool, Manchester United are firmly under the pump as they travel to Southampton. The Saints are yet to pick up a point from their opening three games played and they are struggling to carve out chances against Premier League defences. Manchester United meanwhile have lost two of their opening three games this term and their manager Erik ten Hag is wilting in the spotlight once again. However, the Red Devils tend to turn up when they need to, and they could pick up three points here.

Unbeaten Brighton have made a fantastic start to the new Premier League season and up next is a meeting with Ipswich Town. The Seagulls are an outfit with plenty of potential and with no European distractions this season, they could push for a top 6 finish or better. Ipswich meanwhile will be focusing on survival, and they picked up a good first point of the season against Fulham last week. However, this will be a tough one and Brighton should have too much about them on the south coast.

Champions Manchester City have looked imperious so far in their opening three games, which will be striking a sense of fear into the rest of the Premier League. Next up is a clash with Brentford, the last team to win at the Etihad inside 90 minutes and they will be hoping that they can repeat the feat here. City are purring, with Erling Haaland in particular in good nick but the Bees are looking very strong this season and they could pick up a point in East Manchester.

The Arne Slot revolution at Anfield in full swing and Liverpool have been in fine fettle so far this season. Up next is a visit from the unbeaten Nottingham Forest, a side that are notoriously tough to breakdown and who look well placed to avoid the drop this season. That said, this looks to be one of their toughest assignments on paper and with Liverpool brimming with confidence following their mauling of Manchester United, they should prevail quite comfortably here.

Following a gritty point on the road at Chelsea last time out, Crystal Palace will now be chasing their first win of the season, as they take on Leicester City. Palace have lost some key men during the summer, but they remain a very talented outfit and Oliver Glasner will be trying to piece his squad together before this one. Leicester meanwhile found both Aston Villa and Fulham too hot to handle, losing by just the odd goal and they will want to put on a show here. However, Palace are chasing their first win too and they should return one for their home fans in this one.

Fulham vs West Ham United – Craven Cottage

A London derby of sorts pits Fulham against West Ham here and both sides will be desperate to build on their mid-table standing. Fulham have 4 points from their opening three games, and they will be relying on home form to propel them away from danger again this season. West Ham meanwhile have looked better on the road than at home so far this season and they will want to play with a sense of freedom here in West London. There is very little to split these two sides and it could turn out to be an entertaining draw.

The prospect of Champions League football looming is sure to be on the minds of Aston Villa players as they take on Everton in the Premier League this weekend. Unai Emery’s Villa have lost just once this season, to Arsenal and they will be looking to continue their good run of form, particularly at home. Everton meanwhile have been abject this term, losing all three of their games and their 2-3 capitulation at home to Bournemouth last time out will still be hurting their manager, Sean Dyche. This is a tough ask though and Villa should prevail in this one.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea – Vitality Stadium

Bournemouth will be looking to build on their incredible comeback at Everton, as they take on Chelsea at the Vitality Stadium. The Cherries have shown real resolve this season and look to have a top-half finish well within their reach. Meanwhile, Chelsea have been inconsistent this term, winning one, losing one and drawing one of their three games played and Enzo Maresca doesn’t seem to have much of a handle on his squad. That said, the blues should manage to have enough about them to overcome Bournemouth here.

Tottenham vs Arsenal – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

A pulsating North London derby looks to be on the agenda at Tottenham, as Arsenal are the visitors and both sides are in need of some points. Spurs have only mustered 4 points from 3 games, a huge concern for Ange Postecoglou and they look to be lacking confidence in front of goal. Meanwhile, Arsenal dropped a couple of points at home to Brighton and will need to bounce back here. The Gunners are a mentally resilient outfit though and they should pick up all three points against their arch rivals here.

Wolves vs Newcastle United – Molyneux

Wolves welcome Newcastle United to the West Midlands, with both sides looking to put more points on the board. Wolves have only managed a single point so far this term, a return that will be something that Gary O’Neill and his side will be looking to build upon. Newcastle are unbeaten and picked up a very good win over Tottenham last time out, but they know that they need to add some consistency to their game. This will be a tight one, which Toon should just about manage to prevail from.
