EPL Week 5 Expert Tips & Predictions

Liverpool were the first side to blink of the big boys last time out, as Arne Slot suffered his first defeat in charge of the reds to Nottingham Forest. Elsewhere, both Manchester City and Arsenal came through stern tests, whilst the likes of Aston Villa, Chelsea and Manchester United all kept pace. Southampton and Everton are the two sides yet to pick up a point this season and with each passing weekend, the pressure mounts on them.

West Ham United vs Chelsea – London Olympic Stadium

A London derby kicks the programme off with West Ham welcoming Chelsea to the London Olympic Stadium, in what is always a frenetic encounter. The Hammers haven’t hit their stride fully this season under Julen Lopategui but they picked up a hard earned point against Fulham in the dying embers last time out. Chelsea meanwhile dug deep to overcome Bournemouth last Saturday and have European football to negotiate this week, but they should pick up an important derby win here.

It has been a sticky start to the season for Tottenham, who have only managed to win one of their opening 4 games and up next is a clash with Brentford. The Bees managed to push Manchester City all the way last weekend but ultimately came up short and will be looking to upset another one of the big boys here. Spurs tend to be more proficient at home and will have their home support backing them to the hilt so should prevail here though.

Two promoted sides clash on the south coast, as Southampton take on Ipswich and both sides are chasing their first win of the campaign. The Saints will be rueing a missed opportunity against Manchester United last week, but they know they can have a good go against an Ipswich side that are tough to beat. The Tractor Boys have picked up points against the likes of Fulham and Brighton in their last two though and they should manage to do the same again here.

Fulham will be looking to lay down the gauntlet to Newcastle United here, in a game that should be very good on the eye. The Cottagers let a lead slip late on against West Ham last time out and they will be eager to avoid a repeat in this one. Newcastle came from behind to overcome Wolves last weekend and remain unbeaten, but this promises to be a real test of their mettle. This is a tough one to call but perhaps there is enough momentum behind Newcastle to push them over the line at the moment.

A cracker of a Midlands derby looks to be on the cards here, as Aston Villa take on Wolves. Villa have been making tough work of things this season but the manner of their 3-2 comeback win over Everton must give Unai Emery’s men plenty of confidence moving forwards. Wolves slipped to a 2-1 loss to Newcastle last time out and are still finding their feet this term, but this is a tall order, and Villa should win comfortably at home.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth – Anfield

Having slipped to a defeat against Nottingham Forest last time out, Liverpool will be doing all they can to turn things around against Bournemouth. The reds had looked the part this term until that defeat, and they will be eager to prove it was merely a blip. Meanwhile, Bournemouth succumbed to a late loss at home to Chelsea; after dominating much of the play and they will see this as a complete free hit at Anfield. Liverpool could be riled for this one and Bournemouth ought to look out.

Leicester City vs Everton – King Power Stadium

Steve Cooper’s Leicester City have been ticking along nicely in the Premier League this season and they too are chasing a first win, as they take on Everton. Two points from 4 games played isn’t an awful return for the Foxes, who are solely prioritising Premier League survival this season. Everton however have lost all 4 games played and look to be in a real crisis of confidence under Sean Dyche. That said, this will be cagey, and it could be a draw in the East Midlands.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United – Selhurst Park

Manchester United will be looking to build on their incredible win over Southampton last time out, as they travel to Crystal Palace. The Eagles proved to much for them both home and away last season and will be looking for more of the same at Selhurst Park. However, United look to have turned the corner after their win on the south coast and they should have far too much about them for Crystal Palace in this one.

Two unbeaten sides meet here, as Brighton take on Nottingham Forest at the AMEX Stadium. The Seagulls were made to rue missed chances against Ipswich Town last weekend, but they are still on 8 points from 4 games played and they could have more than a chance of cracking Europe this season. Nottingham Forest meanwhile picked up a famous win at Liverpool last time out and will be buoyant ahead of this one. Brighton need a win though and they should just about squeeze one here.

The Premier League’s top two meet once again, as Manchester City and Arsenal lock horns at the Etihad Stadium. City have been blemish free again to start the campaign, picking up 4 wins from 4 games played but they have not faced a test as stern as this yet. Arsenal meanwhile have 3 wins and a draw on their copybook, but they have had the harder fixtures so far. Percentiles split these two sides, and this could well end up being a very watchable draw at the Etihad Stadium.
