Venue: Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain.
Race Date: 28th March 2021
The opening race of the 2021 Formula One season gets underway in Bahrain. 2020 was a year like no other in F1, with the absence of fans in most venues and the international calendar torn apart by COVID 19.
One consistent remained however and that was the dominance of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes who romped home to his 7th World Championship title win. Mercedes made it a 1-2 with Valtteri Bottas finishing second in the standings whilst Max Verstappen and Red Bull were unable to finish higher than third.
Driver changes are common in Formula One and many teams have completely rebranded this term, with Sergio Perez joining Max Verstappen at Red Bull, Daniel Riccardo switching to McLaren and perhaps the headline move is Fernando Alonso’s return to the sport, as part of the Alpine project with Esteban Ocon.
With no less than 23 races in the calendar this season, it promises to be a mammoth slog for the biggest names in the game and the usual array of thrills and spills can be expected from the off at the notoriously difficult Bahrain track.
Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix Predictions
F1 Bahrain Grand Prix Race Winner
As the opening race of the Formula One season, all of the biggest names on the grid will be keen to get off to a flying start:
Max Verstappen – $2.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Red Bull didn’t manage to kick on as many would have expected last season, but Max Verstappen continues look the most likely driver to put pressure on Mercedes. Having Sergio Perez in the ranks is sure to bring out the best in the Dutchman, who loves to scrap for everything and with the Red Bull car looking quick in testing last week, he looks to be the justified favourite.
Lewis Hamilton – $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton always tends to turn up on race day and he will be hoping his Mercedes team have engineered a team capable of going all the way this season. Hamilton is revered across the grid and should he perform anywhere near his best level, he could be very tough to stop here in favourable driving conditions.
Sergio Perez – $8.00 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Mexican Sergio Perez enjoyed a stellar campaign for Racing Point last season and his performances earned him a seat at Red Bull. He will be very aware of where he stands within the hierarchy of the team, but he will be hoping to put some big performances in and make his superiors stand up and take note. He also won this race last year for Racing Point so knows what it takes to get it done at this track.
Valtteri Bottas – $8.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Finn Valtteri Bottas has long played second fiddle to Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes and he will be keen to show he is worthy of the second seat in the team, with his contract up at the end of the campaign. He is a tough driver, who never gives in and with many teams still acclimatising during the early season, he could be an outside shout here in Bahrain.
F1 Bahrain Grand Prix First Driver to Retire
With plenty at stake at the Bahrain International Circuit, it could be a tough weekend for many drivers this weekend:-
Nicholas Latifi – $14.00 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Williams have endured a few underwhelming seasons and whilst the future of the company looks to have been resolved, their car doesn’t look too strong this season – making Nicholas Latifi a candidate to retire first.
Charles Leclerc – $15.00 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Ferrari endured an awful campaign last season, and their top driver Charles Leclerc’s lack of consistency looks to be hampering them somewhat – making him a candidate to bomb out first in Bahrain.
F1 Bahrain Grand Prix Top Six Finish
2021 presents a golden opportunity to many drivers in Formula One to make a name for themselves and they will all be looking to do that from the outset in Bahrain:-
Daniel Riccardo – $1.77 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Australian Daniel Riccardo has joined McLaren during the off season, and he is known for taking the game to his opposition and he should be well in the mix come Sunday afternoon in Bahrain.
Lando Norris – $2.00 – Bet @ Sportsbet
McLaren look to have a strong car and Lando Norris enjoyed a superb season last year and he will be vying with teammate Daniel Riccardo for supremacy within the McLaren team structure.
Pierre Gasly – $2.65 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Frenchman Pierre Gasly ripped up the form book to win the Italian Grand Prix last year and he looks to be a genuine dark horse this season in the Alpha Tauri car.
