Venue: Algarve International Circuit
Race Date: 2nd May 2021

With last weekend’s incredible showing at Imola still fresh in the memory, the thrills, and spills of every F1 race weekend look to be on the agenda once more at the Portuguese Grand Prix. The event finds itself back on the calendar in 2021 – due to the COVID 19 pandemic and it is a welcome return to Formula 1 racing in Portugal. Prior to last year, the event had been off the calendar for 24 years and the Algarve International Circuit is the perfect venue for top level F1 racing. With that in mind, most drivers will be experiencing the Algarve International Circuit for just the second time – adding to the narrative surrounding what promises to be an incredible race. With 66 laps of drama guaranteed, it should be compelling viewing on the Portuguese coast.

Formula 1 Portuguese Grand Prix Predictions

F1 Portuguese Grand Prix Race Winner

With only 2 races completed in the 2021 Formula One season, it is still very much early days for some of the biggest teams on the grid in the Algarve here: –

Max Verstappen – $2.52

Red Bull have high hopes for Max Verstappen, who continues to push the Mercedes boys all the way and he has started the season on fire. His win at Imola last weekend was an indicator of both his form and the speed Red Bull appear to have in their car and the changing of the guard in F1 could well be on the horizon.

Lewis Hamilton – $2.80

Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has been in imperious form once again in 2021 and his recovery to second place at Imola last weekend was stunning. With a win and a second place from his opening two races, he looks to have the bit between his teeth once again this season.

Valtteri Bottas – $13.50

Following an epic exit at Imola last time out, Valtteri Bottas will need to start putting points on the board to assist his Mercedes team this season. Pushing Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen will be the key focus for the Finn here and this could be a real test of his skill set in tricky conditions in Portugal.

Sergio Perez – $13.50

Having joined Red Bull in the off season, Sergio Perez is still finding his feet with his new team and how some more points here would help his cause. The Mexican fought hard at Imola last week and he could be the unknown quantity going into the race in the Algarve this weekend.

F1 Portuguese Grand Prix First Driver to Retire

The novelty factor of the Algarve International Circuit could put pay to many drivers this weekend:-

Nikita Mazepin – $4.50

Russian Nikita Mazepin has had a nightmare start to Formula 1 and with the multiple car issues Haas appear to have, he could be a candidate to retire first again this weekend.

Nicholas Latifi – $12.00

Nicholas Latifi had a weekend to forget at Imola, as did Williams in general – with George Russell crashing out and confidence currently looks rather low in the Williams camp.

Fernando Alonso – $20.00

It hasn’t been the fairy tale return many people expected for Fernando Alonso in Formula 1 and with relatively inconsistent performances so far, he could struggle from the off here in Portugal.

F1 Portuguese Grand Prix Top Six Finish

2021 presents a golden opportunity to many drivers in Formula One to make a name for themselves and they will all be looking to do that from the outset here at the Portuguese Grand Prix:-

Lando Norris – $1.44

Following his podium at Imola last time out, Lando Norris looks to be in fine form and with McLaren now very much a team to watch on the grid, Norris looks to be a difficult man to stop.

Pierre Gasly – $2

Frenchman Pierre Gasly is one of the most natural drivers on the grid and with pace to burn, he could feature in the business end of the race this weekend, with his Alpha Tauri car looking particularly nippy this season.

Carlos Sainz – $2.2

Ferrari are enduring a relatively barren spell by their exceptionally high standards and Carlos Sainz will be desperate to keep pace with team mate Charles Leclerc and put some points on the board here in Portugal.

F1 Portuguese Grand Prix Best Bets:

Race Winner: Max Verstappen – $2.52

First Driver to Retire:  Fernando Alonso – $20.00

Top Six Finish:  Lando Norris – $1.44
