Venue: Algarve International Circuit
Race Date: 25th October 2020
Whilst Lewis Hamilton looks set to clinch yet another Formula 1 World Championship title, the thrills, and spills of every F1 race weekend look to be on the agenda once more at the Portuguese Grand Prix. The event finds itself back on the calendar in 2020 – due to the COVID 19 pandemic and it is a welcome return to Formula 1 racing in Portugal. It has been 24 years since the Algarve International Circuit last held a top level F1 race – with Jacques Villenueve last picking up the title in 1996. Most drivers will be experiencing the Algarve International Circuit for the first time – adding to the narrative surrounding what promises to be an incredible race. With 66 laps of drama guaranteed, it should be compelling viewing on the Portuguese coast.
Formula 1 Portuguese Grand Prix Predictions
F1 Portuguese Grand Prix Race Winner
With only 6 races to go in the truncated Formula One season, it is very much now or never for some drivers and teams in the Algarve here: –
Lewis Hamilton – $1.50
Six-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has been in imperious form once again in 2020 and he currently has a gap of 70 points to his nearest challenger Valtteri Bottas. With two wins from his last three races, he looks to have the bit between his teeth, and he is the justified favourite here.
Valtteri Bottas – $5.00
Hamilton’s Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas has a couple of wins already under his belt this season, but he has a big gap to fill to Hamilton with only 6 races to go. His poor showing at the German Grand Prix time out will also be something he is looking to respond from here.
Max Verstappen – $5.50
Red Bull have high hopes for Max Verstappen, who continues to push the Mercedes boys all the way and a win here would really do him and his team some good. His win at the British Grand Prix back in August now seems a distant memory and he will be hoping to hit form and pressurise Bottas in the race for second place in the standings.
Daniel Riccardo – $60.00
Following his podium finish at the Eiffel Grand Prix last time out, Daniel Riccardo should arrive in Portugal full of confidence. His drive in Germany was a timely reminder of his impressive skill level for Renault – who look to have a car capable of challenging this season.
F1 Portuguese Grand Prix First Driver to Retire
The novelty factor of the Algarve International Circuit could put pay to many drivers this weekend:-
Sebastian Vettel – $8.00
Ferrari have endured a really tough time of things lately and with Sebastien Vettel set to leave the team at the end of the season, morale in the camp appears to be rather low.
Romain Grosjean – $9.00
Haas have struggled as a team for a couple of seasons now and Romain Grosjean’s tendency to get caught up in needless scuffles, often costs him his place in the race.
Top Six Finish
2020 has thrown up its fair share of thrills and spills already this season and there will be plenty of racers fancying their chances of cracking the top 6 in the Algarve this weekend:-
Sergio Perez – $1.40
Mexican Sergio Perez has been in fine form for Racing Point this season and few would bet against him challenging again here in Portugal.
Alexander Albon – $2.00
Red Bull look to have a quick car and whilst Alexander Albon hasn’t been in the best of form so far this season, he will hope to come good here – in conditions that should suit.
Pierre Gasly – $4.00
Frenchman Pierre Gasly produced a stunning performance to win at Monza last month and he will be keen to show that it was not just a flash in the pan and back it up this week in Portugal.
