Australian Guineas Form Guide & Tips
—
1. Ole Kirk ($8.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Ole Kirk is a talented type but his form has tapered off this season. He didnāt run on well enough last start to warrant inclusion in our selections.
We wonāt completely rule him out, but heāll need luck from barrier 15.
2. Tagaloa (Best Bet – $3.90) Bet @ Sportsbet
Tagaloa was huge when winning at Flemington last start and he demands respect. The three-year-old colt scored a one-length win over Aysar and he had no luck throughout the run.
Beating a quality field despite being wide with no cover was some effort, so punters should have him on their ticket.
3. Aysar ($8) Bet @ Sportsbet
Aysar almost went in as the best each-way following his second placing behind Tagaloa. The Lindsay Park-trained runner knows how to run close, but his lack of winning form is a concern.
He doesnāt know how to run a bad race so he enters first-four calculations.
4. Cherry Tortoni ($13) Bet @ Sportsbet
A talented type that will be forced to settle back after drawing barrier 17. He could soak up the early speed and finish over the top of them, so donāt rule him out.
He is a two-time winner at Flemington and that shouldnāt be overlooked.
5. Dom To Shoot ($11) Bet @ Sportsbet
He didnāt fire from the barriers last start when running fifth behind Tagaloa, but it was a nice effort going forward.
The Perth-based runner has had plenty of experience with 14 runs and that could do him good on Saturday.
William Pike rides so consider his chances.
6. Lunar Fox ($126) Bet @ Sportsbet
Yet to show his best and triple-figure odds are available for a reason. He shouldnāt be getting close to them.
7. Grandslam ($35) Bet @ Sportsbet
Recent form hasnāt been good despite placing in two tough races last preparation. He ran consecutive placings before running last in the Cox Plate.
Barrier 16 doesnāt help and $36 is a touch short of value.
8. Poland (Best Each Way – $12) Bet @ Sportsbet
Punters get value odds for Poland, which was too good for his opposition at Caulfield last time out.
The son of So You Think won by a length over Amish Boy and heās going to get every chance off the inside draw.
Craig Williams rides and the value odd are there.
9. Beltoro ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet
Beltoro scored wins at his first two starts before running second. He wasnāt too far behind them when sixth at Flemington, but he would need to improve.
$51 is about where we would price him for this race.
10. Embolism ($50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Having Damien Oliver in the saddle helps this talented colt but he didnāt show much at Flemington last time out.
Barrier 14 requires a good ride and although he has ability, he shouldnāt be testing most of these.
11. Itāsourtime ($35) Bet @ Sportsbet
Itāsourtime has made a good start to his career but winning at Group 1 level is another rise in class.
Itās his first start at Flemington and the long straight should help, but heās not paying enough to warrant inclusion.
12. Jet Propulsion ($31) Bet @ Sportsbet
He hit the line nicely at Caulfield last start and it suggested that he wonāt be far away in the Australian Guineas.
Getting to a bigger track is ideal and although unwanted with bookmakers, we can find a spot in first-four calculations.
13. Cambourne ($18) Bet @ Sportsbet
Another first-four type that has been drifting since opening at $16 in the market. He was only fair last start, but he likely needed the run.
He could add value to selections.
14. Ironedge ($81) Bet @ Sportsbet
A last-start winner at Ballarat but this is a massive rise in class. Unlikely to handle it.
15. Here To Shock ($31) Bet @ Sportsbet
It could be a shock after running 10th against similar opposition last time out. A better effort is needed.
16. Zou Dancer (Best Each Way – $5) Bet @ Sportsbet
Comes off a stellar performance at Flemington when landing on the speed and giving her opposition no chance in the straight.
She is a progressive filly that is unbeaten from two starts at Flemington. She is facing the boys here, but with 55kg on her back, she demands respect.
$5 is worth taking on an each-way basis.
17. Lofty Star ($201) Bet @ Sportsbet
Big odds and theyāre drifting. Unlikely to get close if he runs.
