Hong Kong Cup Form Guide & Tips

1. Ka Ying Star (Best Roughie – $14) Bet @ Sportsbet

Ka Ying Star comes off back-to-back second placings and punters get value odds for a top three finish.

The six-year-old son of Cityscape wasn’t far behind Reliable Team last time out, which should be a good form guide here.

2. Panfield ($19) Bet @ Sportsbet

Panfield is talented enough to win this race on his day, but he will need to be better than what he showed last time out.

Getting the inside draw with Karis Teena riding helps, so keep safe as a saver bet.

3. Glorious Dragon ($16) Bet @ Sportsbet

He has been getting better with every run this preparation, but it would be a big improvement to take out the Hong Kong Cup.

He looks held and the $16 is a little short for our liking.

4. Hishi Iguazu ($21) Bet @ Sportsbet

The Japanese-based runner owns six wins from 12 starts and that’s a smart record for the five-year-old.

He gets the services of Joao Moreira in the saddle, which is a positive. However, he would need a career-best showing to go close.

5. Russian Emperor ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

Russian Emperor looked like a nice type in the making earlier on but he hasn’t quite filled out this season.

He owns only two wins from 14 starts and the son of Galileo might not have enough speed to hold them out.

6. Tourbillion Diamond ($46) Bet @ Sportsbet

Looking to go back-to-back is Tourbillon Diamond, who got the better of Ka Ying Star last start.

That form has to be respected and his third in the Hong Kong Classic Mile in January is another good betting guide.

Consider at the odds.

7. Berlin Tango ($101) Bet @ Sportsbet

Triple-figure odds available for Berlin Tango and rightfully so. His form isn’t good enough to contend at this level.

8. Dubai Honour ($2.70) Bet @ Sportsbet

We’re not surprised to see Dubai Honour as the favourite. He scored three consecutive wins before running second behind Sealiway last start, which is a good form guide.

The three-year-old owns four wins and two second placings from nine starts, so he demands respect at the short odds.

9. Mac Swiney ($14) Bet @ Sportsbet

He finished third behind Sealiway and Dubai Honour last time out. He was paying a big price on that occasion and the $14 is a touch too short.

The colt will need to produce a career-best to figure in the finish.

10. Bolshoi Ballet ($21) Bet @ Sportsbet

Bolshoi Ballet is talented at best and he showed that when winning the Belmont Derby. He didn’t fire up in the Breeders’ Cup Turf, but he must be respected.

Ryan Moore takes the ride and he’s the man to have in the saddle. Keep safe at the price.

11. Lei Papale (Best Each Way – $8.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

Japanese runners should always be respected and Lei Papale is safe in the market. She hasn’t been far behind some smart types, which are good form guides.

Her win in the Osaka Hai in April is a terrific effort, so we’re prepared to put her in the mix at the price.

12. Loves Only You (Best Bet – $2.80) Bet @ Sportsbet

Loves Only You won the Breeders’ Cup Filly Turf last month and that is a good form guide.

The five-year-old mare owns seven wins and five placings from 15 starts, and carrying 55.5kg is ideal.

Barrier four is ideal and she’s our best bet.
