New Zealand vs Egypt Preview
After drawing their opening games, New Zealand and Egypt prepare to clash here in Vancouver, in a match both sides will believe they can win.
The Kiwis showed up very well against Iran, drawing a very entertaining clash and they will be up for the challenge here against Egypt.
In a similar vein, Egypt troubled Belgium before ultimately settling for a draw and they will be desperate to build on that showing in this one.
A win for either side would give them an excellent chance of reaching the knockout rounds, which should add to the sense of occasion.
These two sides are hugely contrasting in their footballing outlooks, but this should be a good game.
Here is a look ahead to New Zealand vs Egypt:
Best Bet
Following a couple of disappointing World Cup campaigns over the past decade, Egypt showed real resolve in their opening game against Belgium.
While they ultimately ended up drawing the game, they showed defensive resilience and attacking flair, which should make them tough to contain in this one.
Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush continue to link up well in forward areas and both men should keep the Kiwi defence on their toes.
Much was made of the impressive start New Zealand made and they played on the front foot against Iran impressively.
However, this is a step up in quality all across the pitch and Egypt should find a way to beat New Zealand here.
Same Game Multi Bet
Heading into the tournament, not much was expected of New Zealand, but they showed real quality at the top end of the pitch against Iran, something they will be eager to replicate here.
They should have the tools to trouble this Egyptian defence but the prospect of actually beating them over 90 minutes does feel a long shot.
The aforementioned forward line of Egypt is potent and if they link up, they will be difficult to stop in front of goal.
Added into the mix that a win for either side almost guarantees them a place in the knockout rounds, both teams should be up for taking plenty of risks here.
Best Value Bet
The club future of Mohamed Salah remains unclear but his importance for Egypt is unquestioned.
He came off against Belgium at the 70 minute mark, with his fitness being protected for the whole tournament and this does feel like Egypt’s most important game.
They are favourites to beat Iran next, as well as New Zealand here and they will need a telling contribution from the ‘Egyptian King’ in this one.
