Spain vs Austria Preview
A pair of European heavyweights prepare to slug it out here in Los Angeles, as pre-tournament favourites Spain take on Austria.
The Spaniards were slow to get going against Cape Verde but responded well with wins over Uruguay and Saudi Arabia, to progress as group winners.
Austria meanwhile dug in to overcome Algeria and Jordan in Group J, but they needed a last-minute equaliser against the Algerians to progress to the last 32.
On paper, this should be all about Spain, who are playing with confidence throughout their squad, and they look well placed to go all the way in the tournament.
Austria will make this one tough though and it could be cagey affair here in Los Angeles.
Here is a look ahead to Spain vs Austria:
Best Bet
Much was made of Spain’s opening 0-0 draw with Cape Verde, but they have bounced back to silence the doubters impressively.
Comfortable wins over Saudi Arabia and Uruguay saw them top the group and they look to have a very manageable path to the final.
Such is the pressure on the Spanish through is that anything other than a deep run in this tournament will be deemed as a failure and they know Austria will be a tough nut to crack here in Los Angeles.
Ralf Rangnick will have Austria organised and resolute and they will be doing all they can to make this tough for Spain.
However, this Spanish side have some incredible players in their midst, and they will find a way to win this one.
Same Game Multi Bet
Apart from in their comfortable win over Saudi Arabia, Spain have somewhat ditched their possession based approach and controlled each game in other ways.
Their win over Uruguay not only demonstrated their game management abilities but the depth of their squad.
Austria will adopt a low block and really look to stop any supply coming to the Spanish forward line, but Spain should find a way to win this one and progress to the last 16.
Best Value Bet
Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal is the main man for club and country and having him back in their ranks has seen Spain hit new heights in the tournament.
Most of the things Spain do in attacking areas tends to go through Yamal and he is deadly when given half a chance.
Austria will make this tough and could even double up on Yamal, but he looks set to be the difference maker in this one.
