(1) Good Odds Cobber (Best Bet – $3.00)

Our top bet is Good Odds Cobber, who comes off three consecutive wins, including a tough half-length win over Smooth Plane last start.

The three-year-old son of Fernando Bale owns 30 wins and 11 placings from 53 starts, and he’s yet to finish worse than third at the track and distance.

Getting the inside draw makes him tough to beat.

(2) Spirit Boy ($18.00)

He has been running well this preparation, including a win and two second placings from his last three starts.

His best time is good enough to compete but we can’t see him figuring in the finish against the smart types in this field. However, he could run in the top four at the thin end.

(3) Vincent Bale ($3.30)

Vincent Bale is a proven winner and he looked good when beating Magistrate by 3.75 lengths last time out.

The two-year-old son of Christo Bale has been well-backed to score, and his best time of 29.65 is good enough to be competitive.

We can’t leave him out of calculations.

(4) Deadly Avenger (Best Each Way – $4.40)

Seeking three consecutive wins is Deadly Avenger, who was too tough for them when winning last time out.

He’s only a nine-time winner from 23 starts, but he’s a tough customer, and we’re not leaving him out of calculations for the Gold Bullion.

Without pace on his outside, he could get into a good position.

(5) Mepunga Tully ($11.00)

She won by 1.5 lengths in the heat when beating Spirit Boy, and we don’t think that’s the best form guide for this race.

Her best time is good, but drawing trap five could ruin her chances.

(6) Daysea’s Rory (Best Roughie – $12.00)

Daysea’s Rory put in two poor runs before bouncing back with three consecutive wins, and he’s a smart type on his day.

With a wealth of experience at the track and distance with 31 starts for nine wins and 13 placings, we can’t leave him out.

(7) Morton ($14.00)

It’s always tough to know what Morton will produce, but after finishing 5.5 lengths behind Deadly Avenger last start, we can’t see him turning the tables.

Bookmakers have it right with the double-figure odds.

(8) Warm Cockles ($15.00)

He ran just under a length behind Daysea’s Rory last time out, but he needs to improve on that run to go close.

Drawing wide could help but there is too much pace on his inside for him to cross.

(9) Magistrate ($12.00)

He’s a consistent and experienced type, including 12 wins at the track and distance, but he’s unlikely to get in the field.

If he runs, he’s a first four chance.

(10) Newton Hayze ($15.00)

We can’t see him running well enough to figure in the finish if he gets a spot in the race.
