She hasn’t been too far away recently but there are better runners in this field, and we haven’t found room for her.

Irish Millie has yet to win in seven attempts at the track and distance, and we can’t see that changing on Thursday night.

(2) Jeremiah Fire ($35.00)

Punters get big odds for Jeremiah Fire, who did well to make this field, but we can’t see him making an impact.

The son of Fernando Bale is a two-time winner at the track and distance, but that’s where the positives end.

(3) Ethanol Water (Best Bet – $3.00)

Ethanol Water is a classy type who won by 3.5 lengths in the heats, and she’s good enough to handle this field.

She owns an electric turn-of-foot, and getting two slower dogs on her inside couldn’t have worked out any better for her.

Take the $3.00 available from bookmakers.

(4) Late Night News ($5.50)

Boasting nine wins and seven placings from 19 starts is Late Night News, who ran 3.25 lengths behind Black Silencer last time out.

He’s easily good enough to beat this field and we’re not leaving him out of our first four selections. He only needs a touch of luck from the middle draw.

(5)  Valpolicella (Best Each Way – $5.50)

She is the best-performed runner in the race, boasting 38 wins from 76 starts and more than $1.1 million in the bank.

The three-year-old daughter of Shima Shine owns 16 of those wins at the track and distance, so the form checks out.

She’s our best each-way pick and getting $5.50 for Valpolicella is good shopping.

(6) Black Silencer ($4.20)

Black Silencer is another runner we’re not leaving out of calculations after winning by 3.25 lengths in his heat.

The son of Hooked on Scotch is unbeaten at the track and distance, including a 10-length win over Irish Millie two back.

That form checks out and the each-way odds appeal.

(7) Pass Mark (Best Roughie – $13.00)

He comes off a second placing behind Ethanol Water, and finishing just over three lengths behind the favourite is good enough to place in the Gold Cup.

Drawing wide should help his chances and he could boost payouts at value odds.

(8) Groovebird ($15.00)

She finished second behind Valpolicella last time out, but she needs to improve to beat this field.

Her best form is good enough to be competitive against some of the best, but given how deep this field is, we can’t include her in our picks.

(9) Ace’s Chance ($16.00)

He’s unlikely to get a run in the Group 1 field and, but he’s a three-time winner at the track and distance.

If he gets a run, it would defend what draw he gets. However, as it stands, we’re not including him in picks.

(10) Akela Ninjutsu ($31.00)

Big odds available and she would struggle to beat this field.
