Topgun Sprinters Form Guide & Tips
(1) Mallee Beauty (Best Bet – $2.50)
A gun sprinter with 28 wins from 37 starts, and she should use the inside trap to her advantage.
She is an excellent beginner, and we can’t see her being beaten unless she somehow bungles the start when the lids fly open.
The $2.50 odds could shorten on race night, so take the opening price.
(2) Eriza Sparkles (Best Each Way – $5.50)
She has made an incredible start to her career with nine wins from 15 starts, and she has already earned over $220,000.
Her win at Wentworth Park two back was top level before finishing second behind Power and Glory. She lost no admirers with that performance.
It’s her track and distance debut, but she is quick enough to keep up.
(3) Sooty Keeping ($6.50)
She needs to hit the ground running to have any chance, but we wouldn’t have priced her at $6.50. We priced her at around $9, and she has good speed directly on her inside.
It would be foolish to leave her out of multiples, but she needs to be at her very best to win the Topgun Sprinters.
(5) Smooth Plane (Best Roughie – $10.00)
If Sooty Keeping doesn’t jump well, that could see Smooth Plane come across the field and sit handy to the pace.
He is one of the toughest greyhounds in the field, which takes him close in most Group 1 races. That’s why we have him in our Topgun Sprinters picks.
(6) Deadly Avenger ($12.00)
He hasn’t been at his best recently, but we can’t recommend backing him. There is too much pace around him, and he could get crowded early.
(7) Mepunga Reward ($9.00)
He is a dangerous type from a wide draw, and he goes into calculations. He owns four wins at the track and distance, and although there are dogs going better than him, he lives for the big occasions.
We’re happy to include him in at the current odds.
(8) Flying Zulu ($15.00)
He has over $1 million in the bank, so respect the class. However, he’s not going as well as he needs to. Therefore, we’re leaving him out this time around.
(9) Slick Splits ($5.00)
He probably should have won earlier this week when getting chopped out of the race on the first turn. He’s a risky beginner, which makes him tough to back consistently.
He comes into trap four with the scratching, and it depends on how he starts. We’re happy to give him another chance at each-way odds.
(10) Jungle Johnny ($12.00)
A nice enough type, but he will be lucky to get a run. It would all depend on what draw he gets.
