Topgun Stayers Form Guide & Tips
(2) Pass Mark ($5.00)
Pass Mark gets a pass mark after winning well two starts ago and being right behind them when third in a busy finish last start.
He loves running at the track and distance with four wins from 10 starts, and we expect him to be fighting out the finish.
(3) Springvale Bray ($26.00)
He is a classy stayer, but the five-year-old could be outclassed at this stage of his career. The odds are an accurate reflection of his chances.
(4) Red Dirt Road (Best Roughie – $11.00)
As consistent as they come after posting 23 wins and 13 placings from 50 starts. He is a live chance given the odds, and we think he’s over the odds.
He is the best stayer in Queensland, and although he’s yet to have a start at the track and distance, he’s professional enough to handle it.
His most recent win came by 5.5 lengths, so include him in picks.
(5) Without a Trace (Best Bet – $2.30)
The one they all must beat, and she only needs early luck to put this field away down the back straight.
The two-year-old daughter of Houdini Boy won by 4.25 lengths over Ayden’s Warrior last start, which is an excellent form guide.
We believe she’s the best stayer in the land, so put her on top at $2.30 odds.
(6) Ayden’s Warrior ($7.00)
He can’t be overlooked after running second to Without a Trace last start. That’s the best form guide for this race, and he showed good early speed on that occasion.
The son of Fernando Bale doesn’t need to improve too much to figure in the finish, so he goes into trifectas and first fours.
(7) Late Night News ($8.00)
He knows how to win big races, but we’re only including him in first fours. His best form doesn’t come at the track and distance, and he might find some of these too sharp.
Everything would need to go right for him from the draw, so we’re choosing to leave him out of our Topgun Stayers trifecta.
(8) Ethanol Water (Best Each Way – $5.50)
It would be a crime to leave her out of calculations. She is the best-performed stayer in the race, and she keeps hitting the mark with two wins and four placings from her last six starts.
She runs well at The Meadows, and getting a wide draw won’t do her chances any harm. Take the each-way odds in the Topgun Stayers.
(10) Fade to Black ($13.00)
He gets a run in the field when it didn’t look likely earlier in the week. A sold enough stayer, but we can’t see him threatening the best in the game.
