NZ 1000 Guineas Form Guide & Tips
(1) Well Written (Best Bet – $1.80)
The three-year-old filly could be the next star of the New Zealand Turf. Her win at Ellerslie last time out by 6.8 lengths was amazing, and we can’t see many of these getting close to her.
She profiles well for the 1000 Guineas, and although the odds are short, she will give punters a good sight from in front.
Look for her to set the speed and kick clear.
(2) Cool Aza Rene ($27.00)
She is already a three-time winner this preparation, so she has that going for her. Five wins all-time, with two of them coming at Riccarton.
Having that experience left-handed is ideal, and she could run better than her odds suggest.
(3) Little Black Dress ($21.00)
No match for Well Written when running second at Ellerslie, but she still defeated the rest of the field.
She is a talented type that doesn’t win as often as she should, but she is another runner that punters can back at big odds.
$4 to place is a fair price.
(4) Lollapalooza ($6.00)
A touch under the odds given the way she raced last start. However, she’s not lacking the ability to beat fields of this nature.
We’re not leaving her out of our NZ 1000 Guineas picks, but we thought she would have been paying around $10.
(5) Miss Starlight ($41.00)
Kicked off her career with three consecutive wins. Coming off only a moderate run, and based on that, we can’t have her in our picks.
(6) Cream Tart (Best Roughie – $16.00)
Four starts for two wins and two second placings, so she has made a consistent start to her career.
Getting the inside draw could be enough to see her take out this race, and she’s a big danger to the favourite and the placegetters.
We’re happy with the odds available.
(7) Bona Sforza ($51.00)
A nice enough start to her career, but we can’t see her winning this race. She would need to find 5-6 lengths to beat many of these.
(8) Miss Ziggy ($41.00)
Mixing her form this prep, but she has a recent win on the board. She might be looking for something slightly easier now.
(9) Belle du Monde ($41.00)
From Te Akau, so that makes her a threat. However, she’s not their best chance in the race, and she could be wanting more time to mature.
(10) Origin of Love ($16.00)
Two wins from her last three starts, and she dug deep to score the most recent. Likely to settle handy to the pace but trying to keep up with Well Written could damage her chances.
(11) Belle Cheval (Best Each Way – $6.00)
Broke maidens with a win at Ellerslie, and she could graduate to Group 1 level immediately.
That win came by 2.5 lengths, and although she didn’t beat much in behind, she is bred to win the Guineas, being by Savabeel x. Keepa Cheval.
Look for a market push on race day, as she has top 3 ambitions.
(12) Savvy Donna ($21.00)
Yet to win a race, and that’s not the form she needs to win. A top 6 result would be a good result.
