NZ 2000 Guineas Form Guide & Tips
(1) Affirmative Action (Best Each Way – $4.00)
The joint favourite after winning two races, and it’s only the wide barrier draw that works against him at Riccarton.
However, he looks like a nice type in the making, and we can’t leave him out at the each-way odds. If he gets cover from the draw, he could finish best.
(2) Swiss Prince ($4.80)
Another runner coming off consecutive wins, and he can’t be overlooked at each-way odds. He likes to ride the speed and kick well, which is a good asset to have.
We wouldn’t rule him out of NZ 2000 Guineas picks.
(3) Alottago ($12.00)
There is nothing wrong with his form, so he goes into first four picks. Our only worry is whether southern form stacks up against the north, but he has done enough to suggest that he’s good enough to win.
(4) He Who Dares ($11.00)
Ruling out a Te Akau runner in a Guineas race hasn’t been a good strategy, but we believe there are better winning chances.
He was only fair when running fourth at Tauranga, and big improvement is needed.
(5) Magic Carpet ($31.00)
He was tracking nicely towards the Guineas following a good win two back, but he didn’t provide much in the same race as He Who Dares.
We’re looking towards other runners on Saturday.
(6) Romanoff ($7.50)
He runs at shorter odds than what we priced him at. We have him at around $11, but there has been good betting support.
He ran third behind Swiss Prince and To Cap It All in one of the better form races, so based on that, he’s a first four chance. However, considering To Cap It All pays $19, the $7.50 is too short.
(7) Professional Lad ($31.00)
A nice enough type, but he has yet to win. We can’t see that changing in the 2000 Guineas.
(8) War of Silence ($41.00)
Another Te Akau runner who won on debut before posting back-to-back placings. He would need to find a few lengths on those efforts to get it done.
(9) Mission Complete ($71.00)
He capped off solid form with a win, but as the odds suggest, his level might be a touch below this.
(10) Shoma ($71.00)
Another long shot runner without much hope of winning. Yet to win, and he’s looking for maiden racing.
(11) Kiwi Magic ($71.00)
A second placing three back was a solid run, but he has been well-beaten twice since. Not this time around.
(12) Tajana (Best Bet – $4.00)
The class filly of the race and she’s our top pick. She ran third behind Well Written last start, who has since won the 1000 Guineas with ease.
That’s the best form guide for this race, and from barrier three with Craig Grylls riding, she gets every chance to score.
(13) Little Black Dress ($41.00)
Her run last week isn’t encouraging, and we’re not sure where to place her. The Marsh stable is on fire, and her last run was too bad to be true, but she could be a tired horse.
(14) To Cap It All (Best Roughie – $19.00)
Second in one of the main lead-up races, and she doesn’t know how to run a bad race after posting a win and four placings.
The $19 odds are generous, so include her in picks to boost payouts.
(15) Bona Sforza ($31.00)
Fourth in the 1000 Guineas last week. Not fancied in the betting this time around, which is a big concern. She might struggle to recover from that big effort.
(16) Intention ($46.00)
She comes off consecutive placings, but she’s looking for something easier.
