The best horse in the world lines up in the Apollo Stakes (Winx) this Saturday and although the field is mostly made up of Waller-trained “also-rans” we’re exciting to see the champion back in action.
Winx is shooting for her 30th consecutive win and she’s paying only $1.10 to cross the line in first. There’s no doubting she will but there’s also value with the other runners.
We have done the form and given free tips for the 2019 Apollo Stakes.

Apollo Stakes Form Guide & Tips
Happy Clapper (Best Each Way – $9.50) – BET NOW
It’s easy to feel sorry for Happy Clapper – always placing behind Winx but he has made a nice career for himself running behind the champion mare.
The Patrick Webster-trained eight-year-old is an 11-time winner which was primed with a half-length trial win at Randwick and that could be good enough to see him run second or third behind Winx.
$9.50 to the win and $1.35 for the place.
Patrick Erin ($126) – BET NOW
Another Waller-trained runner just making up the numbers. Former Kiwi which won at Group 1 level last campaign in Sydney and although that form looks good, he needs more distance.
Hasn’t won fresh up and this distance is a worry.
Brimham Rocks ($101) – BET NOW
Consistent type which ran six consecutive second placings last campaign, which included a placing behind Price of Arran in the Lexus Stakes.
Good form for a staying contest but he will be left flat-footed over this distance.
Tom Melbourne ($31) – BET NOW
We were so proud of Tom Melbourne when he scored a long overdue win last start at Randwick and he could run into the money again here.
He has always been a confidence horse and scoring by 2.5 lengths is a good form indication coming into this. Unfortunately, winning seems unattainable but he’s worth a chance at each way odds.
Winx ($1.10) – BET NOW
Winx was once paying $1.20 to win this race which was an absolute steal. Punters have halved that quote to $1.10 and there’s not much more we can say about the champion mare.
She will win her 30th consecutive race (barring something catastrophic) and it will be a good way to kick off her autumn carnival.
Unforgotten (Best Roughie – $23) – BET NOW
Not going to beat her stablemate but she is a past winner fresh up and she has performed over this distance in the past.
If she can handle the drop back from 1400m to 1600m, she’s going to be finishing off strongly and she will likely try get on the back of Winx.
Nice place chance at $2.10 to run first, second or third.
Egg Tart ($46) – BET NOW
Not the same horse as she used to be and that’s a problem here. Opened at $41 and has drifted to $61, simply because she’s not the same horse as she used to be.
A first three position would be a big surprise.
Aloisa ($34) – BET NOW
Hasn’t won for a long time and that’s a big problem. Good placing last time out and she might attract some punters on the day, but not for us.
