It’s the first Saturday meeting of the 2018/2019 season and the Missile Stakes takes centre stage at Randwick.
The Group race features the likes of Kementari, Music Magnate and Pierata. It’s a quality field on a quality card and we have free tips and form for the best races from both Randwick and Moonee Valley this Saturday.
Randwick free tips & form
Race 1. (11:55) Winter Racing BM70 (1200m)
#3 – Danawi @ $2.75 – BET NOW
Punters will be hoping the Tim Martin-trained runner makes it into the barriers this time around after getting late scratched last week and scratched again last Wednesday.
The three-year-old scored a 1.8-length trial win at Rosehill in preparation of his return and his only race day start was a credible second placing behind Group 1 winner The Autumn Sun.
$2.75 is a solid price and he could easily start the race as the odds-on favourite.
Race 3. (13:05) Cindy Sullivan Memorial BM88 (2400m)
#6 – Raqeeq @ $2.50 – BET NOW
That was a strong win from the Chris Waller-trained import last start and he looks well-placed to repeat the dose.
The son of Champs Elysees came from the back of the field to score a 1.3-length win at Rosehill and Randwick should suit even better. That win should hold in good stead for this and the rise to 2400m shouldn’t pose any problems.
Running with only 56kg helps but he will be a horse punters should pay close attention to in the markets. A drift would spell trouble.
Race 4. (13:40) Everest Carnival On Sale BM78 (1800m)
#10 – Royal Stamp @ $16 – BET NOW
Was left floundering a touch last start but the rise from a 1200m trial to 2000m wouldn’t have helped her cause.
She looks better suited here back at 1800m and it’s a distance she won her only start at. That came awhile ago now but she was unlucky at Rosehill two starts back when being blocked for a run and her best form would take her close.
$16 on offer from bookmakers and she represents value at the light weight against a field that doesn’t contain any superstars.
Race 6. (14:50) ATC Owner Benefits Card BM82 (1200m)
#4 – Smartedge @ $3 – BET NOW
Peter and Paul Snowden line up the last start winner which rises in grade here but looks to have more wins in store.
The four-year-old scored by a neck last start after being slow away from the barriers and a better start will be needed to win here. It capped off some consistent form this campaign, which included two placings from four starts.
He has yet to win in two attempts at Randwick but he has placed twice and he’s a solid play at $3.
Race 7. (15:30) Missile Stakes (1200m)
#2 – Kementari @ $2 – BET NOW
The James Cummings-trained four-year-old is returning after running 10th in the Doncaster Mile where he suffered lacerations and the money has been put on.
The son of Lonhro finished third in a recent trial and if he brings the same form which has seen him win in excess of $1.4 million. His win in the Eskimo Prince was good and that form should be good enough to win here.
Punters will need to take the shorts but he could win by a few lengths if he’s right.
Moonee Valley free tips & form
Race 3. (13:20) SAJ Fruits Handicap (1000m)
#8 – Causeway Girl @ $3.50 – BET NOW
Couldn’t have been more impressive when winning by 7.5 lengths on debut at Murtoa. This is much harder here but punters had to be impressed with the way she hit the line.
Her odds have firmed in from $4 to $3.50, which is a good sign and she gets into this race with only 54kg on her back. An inside draw will also help around The Valley and she looks a nice type in the making.
Race 4. (13:55) Geckosports BM78 (1000m)
#4 – You’ve Been Had @ $3.50 – BET NOW
Has enough pace to consider over 1000m and his form last season was good enough to warrant serious attention.
The lightly-tried six-year-old is a winner of four from seven starts and he just didn’t handle the track at Flemington last start. His start prior was a good second placing at this track and he has always performed well around The Valley.
$3.50 is a fair price from bookmakers and we’re not expecting it to last long.
Race 6. (15:10) Mortimer Petroleum BM78 (2500m)
#1 – Thunder Cloud @ $6 – BET NOW
Nice odds on offer for a Darren Weir-trained stayer which has yet to finish outside of the placings from his last seven starts.
Including in that stretch has been four wins and despite being beaten at Flemington last start, it was still a solid effort and he will get some weight off his back from apprentice Ethan Brown.
This is a wide-open field but $6 for a runner in form is good odds and we’re expecting there to be plenty of interest for him on the day.
Race 7. (15:50) Ladbrokes Handicap (1600m)
#11 – Another Coldie @ $3.50 – BET NOW
Hit top form when scoring a 1.8-length win at Sandown last start and he’s a type that can stay in form.
Trained by Darren Weir, the five-year-old capped off some consistent placings at Caulfield and Flemington and the seven-time winner gets into this race beautifully at the weights.
54kg on the back for an in-form runner is tough to go past.
Race 8. (16:30) Ladbrokes Cash Out Handicap (2040m)
#3 – Trap For Fools @ $2.60 – BET NOW
Perth runner which has won 10 of his 25 starts and he has looked good since arriving in Melbourne. The five-year-old finished sixth at Moonee Valley before running third at Caulfield behind Pacodali.
He has since run second at Flemington and with the slight rise in distance, he looks even better suited to this.
$2.60 is getting short as strong money has come for him but include him in selections.
