ATC Derby Form Guide & Tips
(1) Riff Rocket (Best Bet – $3.40)
We’re surprised Riff Rocket isn’t the favourite with bookmakers, but we’re happy to take the value.
There was a lot to like about his win at Rosehill over Ceolwulf, and we think that’s a better form guide than the fillies races.
Take the $3.40 odds before they firm on race day.
(2) Tom Kitten ($8.00)
He was a touch disappointing last time out, but he was facing weight-for-age types.
Dropping to age-group company should be right up his alley, and we’re prepared to include him at the value odds.
He’s a great place chance at the $2.30 odds.
(3) Ceolwulf (Best Each Way – $9.50)
Ceolwulf comes off a much-improved second placing behind Riff Rocket, and that’s the best form guide for this race.
He’s a Derby type, and punters get value odds.
(4) Cap Ferrat (Best Roughie – $19.00)
Cap Ferrat has yet to win a race, but he could enjoy the track conditions at Randwick on Saturday.
The three-year-old colt by Snitzel should also appreciate the 2400m, and we’re happy to take the long odds available at the sportsbook.
(5) Ganbare ($21.00)
He owns three wins from 12 starts, but winning the Derby could be too much for him.
We could see some daring front-running tactics from Tim Clark, who is a great judge of pace.
(6) Immediacy ($15.00)
He kicked off his career with three consecutive wins before running 1.4 lengths behind Riff Rocket.
Based on that performance, he’s a solid first four chance, and he could boost payouts at a price.
(7) Wymark ($8.50)
Connections of Wymark paid the late entry fee, and the son of Tarzino could pay them back.
He turned his form around with four consecutive wins, and he entered Derby calculations with a win at Rosehill over 2000m.
The form in behind was only fair, but he has obvious upside.
(8) Noisy Boy ($41.00)
Second behind Wymark last start, but he never really looked like winning.
There are better bets in this race.
(9) Glad You Think So ($81.00)
This stable knows how to produce stayers, but we can’t see him figuring in the finish at the big price.
(10) Adagio ($126.00)
A two-time winner this preparation, but he might have come to the end of it. Winning the Derby could be a step too far.
(11) Zenmaster ($151.00)
Better when second last time out, but that came against easier types. Won’t be testing them.
(12) Hooligan Tommy ($101.00)
Scratched from an easier race this week. Sargent trains but winning would be a stretch.
(13) Saxon Brave ($301.00)
At massive odds and with reason. No chance of winning.
(14) Zardozi ($2.70)
The current favourite after running third behind Kiwi filly Orchestral last time out. She’s a nice filly, but the $2.70 is too short.
We’re not leaving her out, but punters deserve better odds.
