The six-year-old son of Embellish won over 2800m, and he has since won a jumping hurdle, so he should enjoy the jumping caper.

He’ll have more flat speed than most, so he goes on top despite the short odds.

Race 2. (12:35) Ciaron Maher Racing Maiden Hurdle (3400m)

Step in Time didn’t fire at Geelong last time out, but he showed enough speed earlier this preparation to warrant attention.

The Amy McDonald-trained gelding won at Warrnambool before placing at Hamilton in a maiden hurdle, and he should improve on that.

The double-figure odds are worth including in picks on Sunday.

Race 3. (13:15) Manhari Gotta Take Care Hurdle (3600m)

Split was far too good for a similar field last time out when scoring by six lengths, and a repeat of that is on the cards.

The seven-year-old son of Turn Me Loose has yet to finish worse than second from four jumping starts, including three wins.

That’s good form, and he’s a good multi bet for the meeting.

Race 4. (13:55) Ecycle Solutions JJ Houlahan Hurdle (3250m)

#4 - Flashlight @ $3.30

Money could come for Flashlight on race day, who ran at $1.50 odds when finishing third last time out.

That wasn’t his best effort, but he’s always good at bouncing back, and he hasn’t run worse than third over the jumps.

It’s a field of four runners, so he’ll get his chance.

Race 5. (14:35) Henry Dwyer Racing Steeplechase (3250m)

#3 - Fierce Flight @ $4.00

We’re taking the each-way odds for Fierce Flight, who hasn’t been too far away this preparation, and we’re giving him another chance.

The Te Akau-raced gelding owns a win and four placings from nine starts over the jumps, and he could add to his winning record.

The six-year-old son of Almanzor kicked away to win by 1.3 lengths last start, and that’s a good preparation run for the Grand National.

He’s the joint favourite, but he could firm into favouritism on Sunday.
