Ballarat racing tips

Race 1. (11:37) Pipe Pro Directional Drilling Maiden (1200m)

#6 – Blue Hawaiian @ $1.90

Blue Hawaiian is knocking on the door after three consecutive second placings, and it’s about time she won a race.

The three-year-old filly by Blue Point was beaten by a nose last time out at Seymour, and she only needs to improve slightly to win.

Dropping to 54kg could make all the difference.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 2. (12:00) Peter Tobin Funerals Maiden (1100m)

#2 – Espinho @ $3.00

Espinho comes from Sydney with solid form, which should be more than enough to win at Ballarat, which is good enough to beat this field.

The three-year-old son of Written Tycoon ran third at Canterbury before running fourth at Rosehill, so punters should be confident.

Take the $3 odds before money comes for him.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 3. (12:24) Mitty's Maiden Plate (1500m)

#4 – Emmcee @ $4.60

Emmcee didn’t fire on debut at Cranbourne, but he rebounded with consecutive placings at Geelong and Seymour.

The three-year-old son of Microphone was only a length behind the winner last time out, which is an excellent form guide.

Getting the inside draw could be all he needs to get over the line.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 4. (13:20) Manhari Maiden (2600m)

#5 – Obstructionist @ $4.60

Obstructionist is teasing punters with a win after posting placings at Swan Hill and Ballarat, so that form is good enough.

The four-year-old son of Savabeel doesn’t have much of a field to beat on Sunday, so the win is there for the taking.

Punters get each-way odds and they’re worth including in picks.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (14:00) Porter Plant BM64 (2600m)

#1 – Ferago @ $5.00

Carrying 62.5kg isn’t easy, but he’s the class runner of the field after being given top weight of 65.5kg before the apprentice claim.

The eight-year-old owns six wins and 12 placings throughout his long career, including two wins and four placings in heavy conditions.

Racing here for the first time could result in an overdue win.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (14.40) Hygain Winners Choice BM64 (1600m)

#9 – Em Sixty @ $4.60

Em Sixty capped off consistent form with a win at Swan Hill, and that form should be good enough to handle this field.

The three-year-old son of Smart Missile is bred to show early speed, and punters get value each-way odds to enjoy on race day.

Include him in picks on an each-way basis.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (15:15) Green Tick BM64 (1600m)

#1 –El James @ $2.15

El James owns three wins from six starts, and the four-year-old son of Wrote is good enough to get back to winning form.

The Symon Wilde-trained runner strung wins together last campaign, and it’s only a matter of time before he wins again.

He carries a big weight but he’s good enough to do so.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 8. (15.50) Hygain Winners Choice BM70 (1400m)

#8 – Boltsaver @ $5.00

Each-way value is with Boltsaver, who kicked off this preparation with three consecutive placings, and something close to that is good enough.

The four-year-old gelding won his only start at Ballarat, and he loves running on heavy tracks, so the form checks out.

Take the $5 odds available with bookmakers.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 9. (16.25) All In Accounting BM64 (1200m)

#10 – Second Fix @ $8.00

Boasting two wins and five placings from 11 starts is Second Fix, who won at Mornington two back before placing last time out.

The four-year-old son of Hellbent is good enough to beat this field, and punters get better odds than expected.

Include him in picks at each-way odds.

Stake: 1 Unit
