Ballarat racing tips
—
Race 1. (13:20) Hertz Maiden (1100m)
#8 – Apache Sunrise
Apache Sunrise is on debut for Archie Alexander, and she has looked good at the jumpouts.
The two-year-old daughter of Pierata looks like a strong type in the making and being trained on the track is a bonus.
Look for a betting push on race day.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 2. (13:55) Brandt Maiden (1100m)
#7 – Amapola
Boasting race day experience is Amapola, who ran second on debut at Ballarat last preparation.
The three-year-old filly by Zoustar followed it up with a fourth and fifth at Ballarat and Warrnambool, and she’ll be better for the spell.
We expect her to hit the ground running this time in.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 3. (14:30) The Haymarket Maiden (1200m)
#2 – Controlled Zone
Looking to score an overdue win is Controlled Zone, who comes off a second placing at Sandown behind Sirena.
That form should stack up nicely against this company, and the three-year-old son of Written Tycoon only needs luck from the draw.
Look for him to settle back and come with a big run.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 4. (15:05) Manhari Maiden (2000m)
#13 – Geemes
Geemes has been right around the mark throughout her career, including a second placing at Sale two starts back.
The Ciaron Maher-trained filly ran fourth at Pakenham last time out and staying at 2000m for another run won’t hurt her chances.
She has time to find cover from a wide draw, so include her in picks.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 5. (15:45) Porter Plant Heat 2 BM64 (1600m)
#7 – Mrs Artie
Seeking her fourth win from six starts is Mrs Artie, who was too good for them when scoring at Sale last time out.
That followed a gutsy third placing at Flemington behind Garnacho, so the form checks out beautifully for this race.
She rises in weight and class, but after winning by 2.8 lengths, she is the one to beat.
Stake: 4 Units
Race 6. (16:20) Hygain Winners Choice BM64 (1400m)
#2 – Varane
Varane has been all around the mark throughout his career, including six starts for two wins and three placings.
The four-year-old son of Vadamos comes off a tidy second placing at Warrnambool, which should have him fit and ready to fire second-up.
Billy Egan rides and we expect money to come for him.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 7. (16:55) Set a Deposit Limit BM64 (1000m)
#10 – Loafer
Value could be with Loafer, who showed her best form when winning fresh up at Kyneton before rising in class.
The three-year-old filly ran fifth at Caulfield behind Shadhavar, which is a tough race, and she coped with the pressure well enough.
Getting weight off her back should take her close.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 8. (17:35) Hygain Winners Choice BM64 (1200m)
#4 – Sign From Above
Improving with every run this preparation is Sign From Above, who comes off a second placing at Colac.
The son of Divine Prophet won his only start at Ballarat, so getting back to this track could see his best form return.
It’s an even field and he’s good enough to handle it.
Stake: 2.5 Units
