BCD Group Sprint Form Guide & Tips
(1) Here to Shock (Best Each Way – $4.50)
Here to Shock is a proven winner in Australia and he got the better of a talented field at Pakenham last start.
This is a red-hot field in New Zealand, but we’re happy to include him as our best each-way. He’ll need to be good to beat the favourite but we have always respected Australian sprinting form.
(2) Waitak ($23.00)
The Group 1 Railway Stakes winner hasn’t been at his best this season, and we don’t think he’ll get back to his best form here.
We would need to see a positive betting move.
(3) Sacred Satono ($23.00)
He ran well two back at Trentham but he didn’t fire at Ellerslie last time out. His best form comes at Te Rapa with five starts for a win and three placings.
We’re happy to include him in selections at the current odds.
(4) Shamus ($35.00)
We don’t think he’s good enough to win at Group 1 level, hence the odds. The $35 odds are likely to drift throughout the week.
(5) Mercurial ($46.00)
With only one win at Te Rapa from 13 starts, we’re not including Mercurial in our selections. He would need to find around five lengths to be competitive.
(6) Navigator ($21.00)
The five-year-old is a strong type in the making, and we’re not ruling him out at double-figure odds.
He might be a touch below the best in this field, but given the $21 odds, he gets included in our first four picks for the BCD Group Sprint.
(7) Platinum Attack ($23.00)
Consistency isn’t with Platinum Attack, who won three back but he didn’t fire in two subsequent runs.
That form isn’t good enough to be competitive against Group 1 company.
(8) Babylon Berlin ($17.00)
She owns a fair amount of early speed, but after opening at $14, her odds have drifted throughout the week.
She’s a five-time winner at Te Rapa but yet to win over 1400m, and she is a better bet over 1200m.
(9) Grail Seeker (Best Bet – $2.80)
Grail Seeker showed why she’s one of the most exciting horses in New Zealand following consecutive wins at the top level.
The four-year-old daughter of Iffraaj picked them up easily at Trentham in the Telegraph, and that’s the best form guide for this race.
(10) Malt Time ($27.00)
She’s not the luckiest horse in the field, but getting back in the run won’t help her chances.
(11) Luberon (Best Roughie – $17.00)
Punters get value odds for Luberon, who won her only start at Te Rapa. She is enigmatic, but she showed when winning her first three starts this prep that she’s good enough.
Warren Kennedy rides and the odds are generous.
(12) Savaglee ($4.60)
Savaglee is the best three-year-old colt in the country, and we’re not leaving him out of our picks.
Rising to this level isn’t easy, but he likes to sit on the pace and show a good kick in the straight, so he’ll win many more races.
Sam Spratt is a great front-running jockey, so include her in picks.
(13) Bosustow ($14.00)
The Australian comes off a win at Gold Coast in the Magic Millions Guineas, but we can’t see that form being good enough to win at Group 1 level.
He’s an interesting colt but we’re happy to leave him out.
